    Not even close to accurate.
NDSU has had 5 player leave just this year. Prior to that, this past offseason, their likely starting PG left. The year before, their 6th man left. A couple years ago, their starting PG who had started almost 50 games his freshman/sophomore year transferred.

Here's a reference to what's happened just in the Summit so far:

You are correct. You could tell when Kabellis left 3 years ago, Richman was caught off guard and pissed. He really liked him and the way he played but I think he got homesick for California. Geu and Hunter were both mutually agreed on departures. Both were frequently in and out of Richman's doghouse and it was time to move on. The 3 this year were deep bench players and probably wouldn't have seen the floor next year. That being said, I would not be a bit surprised to see another one or two leave this year who are key contributors.

As watching UND MBB from the outside, I think Sather is a huge upgrade over Jones and seems like a good coach and a good person and someone kids would want to play for. I personally think the one time immediate transfer rule is terrible for mid-major basketball and FCS and G5 FB.

Blow out? The score was 21-13 in the third quarter. NDSU added a couple late scores the made the game look worse than it was.

Just shut up and go home. NDSU football is bad for FCS football in general, and although 3/20/21 was not the day, the sooner UND can knock NDSU off their pedestal, the better for all of North Dakota and the FCS in general. It will happen. Good riddance.

NDSU quickly made it a 28-13 game on the next possession (well a 7 minute drive). They kicked a couple of field goals after that because they wouldn't throw because they didn't have to. UND was fortunate Zeb threw a couple of picks in UND territory early in the game or it would have been a 4 score game at halftime. Zeb won't be the QB the next time they play next fall. NDSU may get knocked off their pedestal, but it won't be by UND.

    Case in point

No. It was said NDSU fans would claim it is a legit championship if NDSU won and illegitimate if anyone else won. It will not be the same this year no matter who wins.

This season is definitely unique, but if the playoffs are held and completed, and the perennial top 5 to 10 programs are participating, I don’t see how you can degrade the eventual champion. They will have earned themselves an FCS championship - rightfully so.

now, of course, knowing how NDSU fans work, it is inevitable that NDSU will argue for the above if they win but will scream inequity if NDSU is not the champion this spring. Predictably pathetic fan base in Fargo.

Not at all. This year is different and this years championship, if it happens, will not be the same, whether it is NDSU or anybody else. Even if the perennial top 5 or 10 teams are competing, those teams are not playing with the same roster as they had planned on playing with in the fall. Take   a quarter of your starting lineup off the field from opt outs or declaring for the draft off any roster and you have a watered down product.

If you're referring to Kolpack's comment, pretty sure he's confusing and connecting two separate conversations. I also doubt that SDSU was doing a ton of gameplanning for NDSU the week of their SIU game. One of the Argus Leader's writers (who actually cover one of the team invovled) corrected him.

Zimmee’s column quotes Stig as saying Spack called him last week way before it was announced. Not sure what else last week would mean.

You mean their running game finally woke up?!?!?!? Not denying that to be key for NDSU going forward but the passing game is still worse than even UND’s! NDSU has shown some life finally by they have a long way back if that passing doesn’t get any better. My prediction is 1-2 but I could see them going 2-1

Agreed NDSU has a long way to go and will not win a championship this year, but I can’t see them going worse than 2-1 the rest of the way. Can’t see USD beating them and not sure the UNI offense can get to double digits they are so bad.

Leupke is a fantastic back when a team is playing with the lead . You used your horse and we didn’t.  The UND OL was just as dominant as NDSU.   We were consumed with throwing 5 yard passes and back shoulder fades.  No idea why Shuster didn’t pull it down and run a few times.

Leupke is a good back with or without a lead. He is a bigger, stronger and faster James Johannesson. I suspect teams will stack the box and sell out on the run in the future but if you leave Watson one on one, it could be dangerous.

Not sure UND OL was quite as dominant. Quite a few tfl’s or 0-1 yard gains. I am not sure Leupke was stopped for less than 3 yards hardly at all that game.

And yes, Schuster needs to pull it down and run once in a while.

We can disagree. Pre-NDSU I thought we had outcoached the other staff in all 4 games, some by a bunch.

First TD run by Leupke they pulled a guard away from the play which gave them numbers at point of attack.  Set the tone for the game.  How about that for momentum? a FB's first carry of the season goes for a 55 yard almost untouched TD run which had zero to do with DL deficiency.

1st 4th down on O we have what amounted to a FB dive with Weah lined up 7 yards deep.  NDSU knows its coming and has the middle stacked.  No reason not to call a TO.  Huge momentum play in the game.

Play calling in the 2nd qtr was lousy at best.  The game was still ours to take at that point.  Weah had 4 rushes for 30 yards(7.5 ypc) in the 2nd qtr and Tommy was 4-10 in the 2nd qtr.  No idea why Weah didn't have 10 rushes, how likely was he to house one at that point.  Need to come up with PA using OW and no idea why he is EVER split out in the slot?  Who are we fooling?

After Morrison left the game the DC needed to stack the box and make Zeb beat us.  We didn't.  Zeb completed 5 passes in the game and 2 of them were in the first 2 drives, then they pulled him after the 2nd pick.

Overall no idea why Weah doesn't get 20 plus carries a game.  He is the home run threat.

The officiating WAS brutal, but control what you can control and don't worry about the rest.  I'm not sure how it would have affected the outcome of the play but I thought Siegel hit at goalline which caused pick could have been targeting.  Late OPI was missed on Watson TD for sure as was a late in the game PI on a deep fade.

Totally agree on Weah. He needs 25 touches a game. He scared me every time he touched the ball. Skokna and Gee didn't scare me at all.

The officials did not have their best day. I agree, there was a DPI on the Bison missed in the fourth quarter. I agree with you on the Siegel hit. It was definitely helmet to helmet. Watson was a little woozy and I think it he stays on the ground they probably would have looked at it and may have called it targeting and reversed the pick. The Watson OPI will rarely get called. It was a wr making a play on a ball the was under thrown and the db who didn't have a clue where the ball was was touched in the process. Not an automatic call at all. And the DPI on the fake punt, you can't have DPI on a gunner. Throw that in the middle of the field and you may have a case.

And I like how everybody is shocked that Leupke carried the ball at all. Look at his HS numbers. He ran for something like 5,000 yards and 82 TD's. He runs somewhere between a 4.5 and 4.6 forty. He ran away from UND LB's and Siegel barely caught him.  Roehl said before the season that he would get some looks at TB because of his athleticism but he was hurt until this week.

    Thoughts:

So, do we just put so much pressure on ourselves each time we play the Bison with "this could be our chance"?

I couldn't believe the line play today.  Didn't think we'd get owned like that.

It will be nice to play them at home when they don't feel like they're doing us a favor by letting us come in the building.

I think this is the year to get the Bison. Maybe if you get them at home in the playoffs. Next year when they play in the Alerus, you will be facing a much better NDSU team with a much better QB and more mature OL and DL. They started a true freshman and another played some on the OL yesterday.

And the fact that Freund doesn't get Weah at least 25 touches a game is a travesty. It appeared Skokna and Gee were on the field for as many if not more snaps than Weah. Weah should have been used as much as Luepke was yesterday. take him out for a play or two breather every few plays.  And Schuster needs to run some. There were a few times yesterday he had 10 yards and a first down if he would have taken it.

Correct.  Complain about recruiting.  His coaching would probably be OK if he had some wings that could score.

There are very few local kids that can play D1 basketball, but when they come along you have to at least recruit them. I think NDSU has a few on the roster that can be contributors. I think Jones failed by not going after Harden Hayes at all. He is not a star but is athletic and will hit a high percentage of open 3’s. I am pretty sure Sather did offer Grant Nelson from Devils Lake but am not positive. That kid isn’t there yet but his potential is very high. Those two kids would help UND right now.

  11. As a fan of Summit league basketball and an observer that had NDSU's game on the computer (horrible feed by the way) and UND's game on Midco 2, UND is definitely lacking a scoring threat outside of Rebraca. I think you need to have someone capable of hitting a 3 consistently to take the pressure off PR. Right now that threat isn't there. DAE is a good player but I really don't think he is an all conference type player. Everybody is trying to catch SDSU right now anyway, so this year and next, especially if SDSU keeps Wilson, it will be tough for anybody to overtake them anyway.

Well that was fun, lets do it again!

These two teams square off again in Grand Forks after UND came out with a 52-45 victory in a defensive struggle.

    Other Summit Action

NDSU used some first half dominance to take down Western Illinois

Oral Roberts got 39 from Obanor and took down Omaha, being the only team that won on the road

Good write-up, but NDSU's win was on the road also.

    NDSU WBB beat Kansas today

After being down 18-5 after 1 quarter. In years past they would have folded the tent and lost by 40. This is a decent Kansas team that beat Oklahoma a week ago and that Oklahoma team just beat USD. A coach that can coach and recruit makes all of the difference.

LOL....dohkay.   did you watch the entire game?  They choked like a team that isn't sure of itself.  Not quite sure why those better athletes didn't look like better athletes for 38 mins.

NDSU was a weak team that didn't like to get banged around.  All announcers were saying the same thing.

NDSU will not shoot under 20% for 3 quarters again. They should have been down 30 after 3. If NDSU full court pressures UND the whole game, UND commits 40 turnovers. They have no clue how to handle the press and you could put Jarnot, Reinke, Orth and Leet at the line and they may draw iron and may make it if they get a good bounce, but 50% out of the group would be a bonus for UND. I would give 10 points for both games at the Betty this year and would give better odds that NDSU finishes above UND in the Summit this year.

  15. 16 minutes ago, UND1983 said:

Ridiculous.  No reason to lose that game.  Were the better team for 38 of the 40 minutes.  Step in the right direction though.

The previous years before this year when Collins didn't have his own players, I would have said UND is the better team with the better athletes. But this year is different. This game was more than likely the best shot UND had at beating NDSU this year. NDSU couldn't have played worse for 38 minutes. I think the last couple of minutes of regulation and OT showed that NDSU has the better athletes and BB players now. Outside of Fleecs and maybe Zander, UND is overmatched with NDSU. UND was getting almost every call and they were getting every bounce in the first 38 minutes but still couldn't put NDSU away.

LOL I thought everyone on the roster are scholars too. I mean they are, right? If I am not wrong then I thinknthat is one of the benefits that they actually enjoy in being a apart of their teams. I am not sure about that lol just correct me if you want.

With 15 scholarships, I don’t see how you wouldn’t have everybody on scholarship. Not sure the limit on a roster, but 15 seems like it should be the limit.
