Unless South Dakota State has left the MVFC and I didn't hear about it, this didn't happen this season.

I didn't say anybody went undefeated in the MVFC this year. I am saying a team that is good enough to go undefeated in the MVFC would not lose their first game in the playoffs like an undefeated BSC team did last year.

So the only way UND can win a conference title is if the conference is down? I guess with that mentality the NCC was down throughout the 90's and 2000's. I guess DII was down in 2001 when we won it all. Lets just give up and drop football altogether with that attitude.

Let's put it this way. A team that goes undefeated in the MVFC does not lose their first playoff game.

I give NDSU credit for what they did and also give credit to the 2016 team.

I really don’t care what NDSU fans think.

I give UND credit for the 2016 season also. They beat the teams they needed to on their schedule. That is all you can do. But they didn't win a playoff game. In fact, they lost when they couldn't hold onto a lead against a team with a back up freshman QB that had to throw the ball against a healthy UND secondary with what UND fans would say we're 2 can't miss NFL players.

So you give credit to NDSU for beating those playoff teams, but we get no credit for winning the Big Sky Championship in 2016.

One of the "cupcakes" you are talking about destroyed a 6-2 Big Sky team and another hung about 60 on a team that destroyed a fairly healthy UND team this year.

If we were in NDSU's position, I would not be making overconfident comments about how all my team has to do is not turn it over and they'll come home "smiling". That completely ignores the fact that JMU is the defending FCS champion and is on a 26 game winning streak AND beat the mighty Bison last year in the Not-So Fabulous Fargodome. You don't take games like that lightly. And I wouldn't if UND was facing JMU for all the marbles. Overconfidence has brought down many a dynasty in sports. It is the primary reason why they eventually crumble.

And we are under no obligation to kiss NDSU's collective backsides regarding their success. Just like they are under no obligation to slobber praise on our hockey team winning NCAA titles. It's a rivalry, not a mutual admiration society. That is how rivalries work. And this is Siouxsports.com, not Bisonville. We can and will take shots at NDSU. As long as their fans keep calling hockey a "fake sport", I will continue my smack talk.

You realize the comment you are referring to was made by a UND  fan who hates the Bison right? Heitkamp can say he hopes NDSU wins but we all know he doesn't. I for one am a Bison fan that is not overconfident, and most of the ones I know are not either. If both teams play cleanly, it is a toss up. Sure there are a few ignorant fans that are overconfident but not many, and they are ones that don't really follow FCS football. I can guarantee you the NDSU players and coaches are not overconfident. They beleive they will go into the game and win it, like they would against anybody, but they jnow it won't be easy.

You nailed it on the head, I've been wondering the same exact thing.  And in today's game vs Eastern Europe he had 10 pts after 10 minutes then only got like 3 pts over next 20 minutes or so.

It was New Years Eve!!! Geno was making evening plans. I just hope he called an Uber, He might be suspended for a half if he gets a third DUI in 2 years. Jones has strict standards for his program and players to follow,

  7. So why isn't UND beating out NDSU for recruits? I see that Tom Miller thinks winning is an overblown narrative used too often by Bison fans. If winning isn't it, what is it? Are NDSU coaches better recruiters? Facilities? Better city? Better chance to get to the NFL? This is year 5 for Bubba. How long before he starts winning some of these battles? My guess is most UND fans were expecting that by now he would be winning his share of these battles.

    Basically put..... UND "schobert'd" NDSU.

Other than the fact that Schobert left behind money at UND to take no money at Wisconsin and Steckler left no money at NDSU to take money at UND, yes, you nailed it.

I don’t care who it is (3500 or 5000), that’s pretty ignorant.  That a revenue generator, so generate some revenue.

So if UND or NDSU is the number one seed what do you think is a bigger revenue generator, losing in the tournament to a lower seeded team playing on their home court and getting a tiny bit  of revenue from the tournament or getting to the BIG Dance?

Oh BS.  You have 12-14 starters out and NDSU has a much different 2017.   We’ll see how often you show your face here after you are looking up at UND again....and you know it’s coming....it always does.

Heard that 4 years ago when Bubba was hired. NDSU better watch out, Bubba will own the state, he is a ND boy after all. It hasn't happened yet. Maybe we just don't know it has happened yet. Maybe just maybe, spolier alert, UNDFB360 will post about how UND secretly beat out NDSU on all of their recruits and had to fend of last ditch efforts by Kliemen to flip them. And then when they stuck with UND, Kliemen gave them the middle finger.

8 wins a year should be expected. Less than that should be a down year.

You really beleive that? When you are in the MVFC, if you play a Power 5 FBS, that would mean 6-2 in conference play. You have a long way to go before you can expect to win 6 conference games every year. Not trying to take a shot, just reality. You saw what a 4-4 MVFC team looks like this year when you played USD when you were still relatively healthy.

This is exactly what they are referencing.

Actually they were making fun of Kleiman for saying "today was a home run for us", when actualy if UND had just signed the class NDSU did, they would be saying the same thing about the Fighting Hawk class.

Conference members want a tournament that makes money and draws fans.  The SLT has done that better than any mid-major tournament.  The Summit has tried other locations in the past, and they were total failures.  They aren't moving.  Again, focusing on moving the tournament to a crappy location that doesn't draw fans is the kind of stuff that gets conference commissioners fired.

The fact that there are loads of lower-bowl tickets that are basically already sold before you even join the conference is the real crime, IMO.

Ask a regular season conference champ that just lost a championship game to a 5 seed that was playing at home if they would have rather had a tournament that made money or one that didn't favor one program every year. I think you may get a different answer.

I disagree. He's the type of kid who has often ended up at MSU-Moorhead, and the Dragons would have beaten UND in several recent seasons IMO. Moody can score, and his athletic ability is better than several perimeter players who have played significant minutes at UND in the division I era. Even if he doesn't pan out for whatever reason, I have zero problem with Jones giving a ND kid a shot given the incredible numbers Moody put up in high school. I think Jones has made a lot of recruiting mistakes over the years, but I think this was a good decision.

I agree the kid has talent and can play at this level. He has a Way more talented than the Dickinson kid at NDSU. With that being said, i can't see Moody playing for Richman.

The Conference Tournament should be hosted by whomever wins the regular season conference.  Period.  End of story.  It should be like that for every conference.  Period.  End of story.

I agree with this for a one-bid league like the Summit. With such a big prize for winning the tourney, a trip to the Big Dance! I think the regular season champ earned the right to every advantage to win it. SDSU has probably won 1or 2  more than they should have just because of the home court advantage. You have to be considerably better than them to knock them off in Sioux Falls.

Another item in which SU kicks our a$$ in.  They  magically get teams heading into their crappiest year in school history, more times than not, and we schedule a peaking Washington.  Even Utah turned into a horrible match up the year we schedule them.  In previous years they were run heavy, very vanilla, then in 1 year they grab Eastern' s OC, start a Florida high school player of the year at QB, and add Oregon's best wide out.  All sucks!!

Do you think if you post isomething it makes it fact? Does it make you feel better about your team to downplay NDSU's accomplishments? NDSU beat a #13 ranked Iowa team that went 8-4 And went to the Outback Bowl coming off of a Big 10 Championship year and and an 8-4 Kansas State team coming off of a Big 12 Championship. When you sign these contracts years in advance, you don't know what kind of team you are going to face.

Lifetime no cut contract for  bj

Good to see Jone's coaching style hasn't changed. He is able to recruit good athletes that like to just play ball. My guess is that is his selling point to recruits. "Why would you want to go to another D1 school where they have stucture and discipline, come here and you can run and gun aand do what you want".  That is basically what Moody from Dickinson said when he signed.  Then he does his post game interview and whines that is players just go rouge and do what they want and don't play defense. Shocking.

How does UND have such bad backups!

Because a good chunk of their recruits had just one D1 offer? Sometimes you get lucky with someone like Santiago, but most of the time there is a reason they have just one.

  19. 8 hours ago, TRex said:

As good as that kid is, do you really think he'll stick with NDSU?   By signing day an FBS school will snatch him up.   He already had an offer from NIU I believe.

A good chunk of NDSU commits have FBS offers. Unless a Power 5 school offers, I would guess he stays with NDSU.

I don't know what's going on, but maybe the coaches have some exceptions for him due to his family life. They could of come up with something to allow him some more time at home.

I think that is a great idea. Give the kid you think could be a star 2 or 3 chances, then when he doesn't want to put in the work, make exceptions so he doesn't have to. If this was the 3rd string linebacker, everyone would be saying cut him loose. Beleive it or not, he isn't the first D-1 athlete to have a kid while he was playing. If he has really not been working out with the rest of the players this summer and there are no consequeces for it after giving him another chance, Bubba isn't running the tight ship everybody talks about him running.

I don't think raising student fees and game tickets will get them out of this bind. It could put a little wrinkle in that new stadium being built for the Mountain West.

The NDSU grad making the cuts will write out a check to take care of NDSU's budget problems...

Oh, the gap is certainly closing. By the time UND is playing NDSU regularly, the gap will be closed. Bubba and his staff have done wonders.

    Go UND!

You like to say the gap has closed. Bubba has been there 3 years, You should still be very concerned about the comment made by the Head FB Coach at Hankinson. He was quoted in the paper as saying what kid that plays football in ND doesn't dream of playing for the Bison. He didn't say playing D1 football, he said playing for the Bison. The fact that Bubba has still not beaten NDSU for a ND kid is indicative that the gap is still there and still large.

You will regret saying that when Ott is feasting on Ag school QBs in 2019 and beyond. Of course, you'll have selectively forgotten by that point.

NDSU is loaded at DE and has some excellent DE's coming in with the 2017 class, including the top DE in MN in most peoples eyes in Tanner Sundt, along with the best player in Wyoming who is also a DE. They obviously think the DE's they have coming in are better than Ott. We will eventually be able to see on the field. That is if NDSU is still in the MVFC by 2020.

My theory is NDSU pushed for UND to get into the MVFC because the Summit really needed a 10th team and UND wouldn't/couldn't go without the MVFC invite. NDSU has no intention of being in the MVFC in 2020. They will announce either a new stadium or they will expand seating at the Fargodome by enclosing the corners to make it a bowl, increasing capacity to 26,000 to 30,000 to make an FBS move to the MWC in football only.

They didn't lose because of their LBs. They lost because of their WRs QB and DBs

DeLuca is very good in the pass game covering backs an te's, but yes they do need help at corner. You act like JMU blew out NDSU. It was pretty close. If they had contained the JMU back it would have been a toss up game. The JMU QB biggest pass plays came on scrambles when he escaped pressure and heaved up a couple of bombs that were caught.

On a side note, did anybody catch the ESPN announcers say the JMU secondary was the best in the FCS? They obviously hadn't watched the UND secondary had they?
