  1. Thoughts:

~Zane was star #1. Could have been 3-0 in the first or even 3-1 going into the break. He made some key saves to keep the game in reach.

~Key play was the play that tied it up. UND probably got away with a tripping, and then its in the net.

~Nice to see some scoring from four different guys. Thats huge for down the road.

~Its been said a thousand times, but I'm happy UND got CC.

Close out game tomorrow evening. I thought CC played with a ton of energy, interesting to see how much they have tomorrow evening.

You have to hand it to CC. They are on the road after an awful year with practically no road wins against a team that has been winning a lot of games, and they really had jump. Could have been a different result. Good heart in that team.

  2. My wife and I have been together for about 4 and a half yrs and Trupp is her favorite by a land slide. I always tried to explain how amazing that play was but I could never find a replay. He was always working hard to make a play. Great guy too. I've gotten him to sign pucks for my wife and had him tweet her a birthday wish.

I tried to find it last night on youtube without success. If someone here can point the way, I'd be grateful.

  3. Trupper - on my favorite Sioux players list since his goal in OT against the rodents back in '08(?)... there's a guy who always played with lots of heart.

I predict Sioux win in two against Ron Jeremy and his Tigers.

My favorite Trupp moment was in his first game, I think, against Manitoba when he backchecked a guy on a breakaway and managed to lift his stick off the puck. I think he had to dive to do it, but haven't seen the replay in a long time.

  4. The only thing that made me pick DU over UNO is Sam Brittain. When he finds his groove he can put them on his back and he's just not getting scored on that evening. UNO is a better team, but I think Denver pulls one out.

Any of those 8 teams could end up in Dinkytown. Extremely tense weekend of hockey coming up.

You would go with the goalie.

  5. No Twitter, no Facebook, no SiouxSports.com...just the newspaper the next day telling you if the team won or lost at Northern Michigan or Michigan Tech.

    Less national coverage?

I can remember living in the SF bay area in the early 80s having to make phone calls the next day to find out if they won. Not the best years for a Sioux fan to be in a hockey dead zone.

Now, as to other things . . .

  6. Miami @ SCSU

    CC @ UND

    Denver @ UNO

    Western @ Duluth

A good chance for most of these series to go three games. I like UND's first round matchup a lot more than what some other teams are looking at.

    My predictions:

    SCSU over Miami in 3.

    UND over CC in 2.

    Denver beats UNO in 3.

    Western beats Duluth in 3.

I agree, Wilbur, but I'm going with UNO against DU.

  7. St. Cloud has started a legacy under Motzko lately and seems to be getting the most of their players. Hopefully the Sioux will add to their legacy from this point on in the season. It is nice to see the board so active again tonight, although that seems like it has become the norm --- if the Sioux lose.

St. Cloud has been better the last couple of years, but a legacy?

  8. That short handed goal is really inexcusable. You have a 5 min major and you let them come down and score. That pretty much sealed our fate.

The shorthanded goal was actually a freakish good pass and a great play by the shooter. Our mistake was taking the penalty and letting him get to the net.

  9. I haven't lowered my expectations for the program at all.

    1. I expect the program to be competitive for a national championship. I expect they will be in the NCAA tournament a high majority of the years, with a legitimate chance to advance.

    2. I expect the program to be clean. No recruiting scandals. No payments to student athletes. No academic cheating.

    3. I expect the players to be treated with the same respect shown to other students, so that they leave the University with fond memories and good feelings about their experience. I want them to be proud to be UND alum, happy to come back and support the University, willing to send their own children there.

    4. I expect the team to compete for league and conference tournament titles.

    5. Finally, I want the program to be considered in that elite class of 5-7 programs at the top of NCAA college hockey.

In my opinion, the UND hockey program has met those standards under Hakstol, and under his predecessors.

That's pretty much how I feel. And expanding on Hovey's first point, I want to be able to watch a UND team that is consistently among the best teams in the country, so the games are both fun to watch and meaningful. Hak's teams have given that. Hak has not won a NC yet, and we all expect that; but he also has not put us through three for four years like Minnesota recently went through under Lucia, or some of the bad years Eaves had recently, or some of Sandy's teams in in Duluth, or the disaster Miami has been this year.

  10. My very first hockey game was the first night the old Ralph had the first game ever. Sat right next to the guy with the red light. Was right on the ice behind the glass. East end of the rink. Spent a lot of time ducking even with the glass between myself and the puck. LOL. But I was very hooked and loved going to the games win or lose or lose or lose. That was about the ratio. But they won that first night.

I was there too. Jeff Sauer and CC in town, if I remember right.

Those of us who began watching the Sioux in the old barn thought the new building was very nice but too quiet and civilized. A little like fans felt after the move from the old Ralph to the new.

  11. I think they are both uncalled for...I have stated my thought many times but there are some that live on the ends of the spectrum. I don't care what anyone says, blais did much more for this program then Hakstol has. Again, do I think Hakstol should be fired? No, you cannot fire someone that has had his kind of success. However I do think that after a 13-15 year tenure (3-5 years from now) both parties may have to go there separate ways if we haven't won a national title. A coach with his success deserves 13-15 years to try and get it done. He has put an entertaining product on the ice, no one can deny that. But to mock blais is ludicrous. In speculation, I'm guessing he would have won 1-2 more had he not left. There were some nice blue chippers that came in at the time he was leaving.

I don't think anyone is mocking Blais, scpa, as much as tweaking the "fire Hak" people by joking about what Dean could have done or is now doing in UNO.
