  1. He did play forward a little bit at Central, but I doubt he would be as effective as a dman. It's the same situation as Genoway.

Marto was one of our most effective dmen all season...strong defensive play and such a smooth, fast skater.

I trust Hakstol to figure out the defense logjam before next season begins.

I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night but I totally agree with you here. We need Marto right where he is. The guy I feel for is Davidson. I think the guy could play at D for the Sioux, and who knows how that will shake out next year.

  2. Great season and like gasboy told me even before the game today, for those at the Final Five we witnessed quite a treat. This team started strong, lost one of the top few players in college hockey, sagged, rebounded and finished very strong, ended MN's season and won some hardware.

It was a disappointing finish today but they had a good season for a fairly young team. I for one appreciate the season and the job these coaches did.

  3. I read in the paper that the NHL is going to crack down on headshots. Blindside hits where the head is targeted, or those hits on an unsuspecting player where the head takes the brunt of the hit. Well, Wehrs saw it coming. Frattin left his feet and still deserved a major for that, but less and less do I think that was worthy of a suspension. The head was definitely not targeted.

  4. I think it is misguided to aim any criticism at the tribes at all.

This whole thing was manufactured by the media and the NCAA, contrary to public perception, the Sioux people did not bring this on. We (Sioux Fans) are asking them to help us tell the sick F*cks at the NCAA ( Myles Brand and Co.) that they were 100% out of line with their sweeping moronic decree.

The Tribes are doing us a favor and we should just say thanks for helping out! and they should say, 'no problem and thanks for honoring our ancestors that's pretty cool'.

That is the way it should all go down.

You are exactly right. The Tribes don't owe us anything. For whatever they are invested in seeing UND keep using the name is the only reason they need to act. We supporters of using the nickname need them a whole lot more than they need us. They owe us nothing. We should be grateful for anything they do that supports the continued use of the nickname.

  5. One difference from today: The "Sioux yeah yeaaah" is the same today as before, but the "Yeah, Sioux Sioux!" used to be three short shouts. I'd say the response evolved around 2000 to today's "Yeah, Sioux Siouuux." Personally, I feel the old way is more ... strong/forceful/manly ... and less awkward. But I can live with it.

I don't think I've heard it the old way but I think I would like that.

  6. And some of my inspirational posts, and my hat, right Dagies?

You are one of the finest fans that I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Enjoy the run.

Well, your posts are classics, and always optimistic! And who can be down when they see the hat?

    After you, my friend.

  7. Perhaps all of Rick's examples weren't the best, because there is a difference between not being optimistic and actually calling for the coach to go. I would bet even Rick would agree with that.

I think Rick's larger point is spot on.

For those who participated in thrashing Hak and beginning the speculation of who a better coach would be, they're probably feeling pretty foolish right now. They're certainly looking it.

For those who lacked optimism, well, the late season has certainly provided reason for optimism. I, for one, lacked optimism but never gave up hope. I certainly didn't think the season was a sign that it was time for a new coach.

In fact, one reason I had hope was because of our coaching staff.

  8. Hopefully this will get this thread back on to the subject at hand...

STANDING ROCK NICKNAME SUPPORTERS SUBMIT PETITION FOR BALLOT MEASURE

They have 1,004 signatures on the petition!! The total voter turnout last September was 1,900, so this looks promising.

Charles Murphy said his office will start to verify the names on Tuesday, and if they check out, his staff will draft a resolution to bring to the Tribal Council early next month.

That's encouraging. Hopefully the names check out.

  9. Came around to see your during the second period break, you were in your seat when I left, but gone when I got there, suppose youi were in one the the long lines at the b-room. At any rate, you weren't back yet when I had to head back around to get to 116 before the third period started. Will probably try again today. Almost all Dog and Sioux in the arena last night, wonder how many had tickets for just that game. Would guess we'll see more red and whatever that SCSU color is today

Thanks for trying again. It was nice to meet you.

  10. Going with my head and not my heart:

    UMD 4 Sioux 2 (ENG)

Sioux are nicked up, Duluth is desperate, one of the Sioux's sparkplugs and hottest players is sitting.

    Friday

SCSU 4 WI 3 (going out on a limb here)

    Denver 4 UMD 2

    Sat

    WI 4 UMD 3

    Denver 3 SCSU 2

    already wrong!!!

  11. 104 Row 16 seats 8 and 9

Getting real excited. I went to the Friday games last year, and only saw 1 team score in both games (2 shutouts.) I'm thinking it can only get better this year, especially if our guys score a few.

Last year was really not the most enjoyable tournament. The only less enjoyable was 2002? when the Sioux completely missed it.
