  1. Look at this kid for Duluth. Wonder how much of his uncle's temperament he got: http://www.umdbulldogs.com/m-hockey/Hockey...ersSchwabe.html
  2. Check out #'s 9, 10, and 11 on this roster. Someone grew a little bit, too. http://www.canadianhockey.ca/e....st.html
  3. personally I am sorry to hear that about Faul. I thought with the increased time he had at the end of the season he was turning into a player.
  4. And another post: http://www.network54.com/Hide....6401829
  5. I can handle tough guys, but I don't like guys who swing the stick like a weapon. That's my only issue with Canady. If Prpich comes in a plays a physical game, that is great. But if he is using that stick as a weapon I won't like him. That's just me. That's a lot of penalty minutes per game. A guy can balance out his contributions by too many short handed minutes. BTW, how did Prpich get 9 short handed goals when he is in the box all the time? Don't get me wrong. Any time we can get a guy who had strong offensive numbers, is voted one of his league's 2 MVP's and is the team Captain, I'm all for adding him to our roster. I'll say this. If Canady does play next year I bet we have one of our highest penatly minute seasons in a long time.
  6. Interesting discussion here: http://www.network54.com/Hide....6059435
  7. Porter, Murray and Fabian are not coming until 2003. Forwards coming in next year: Genoway Parise Fylling Prpich. Yes, this does look badly for some of the returning forwards from last year. Some gopher fan will have a field day.
  8. Green Guy, thanks for the heads up.
  9. Sprig, I've never trained a dog and wasn't quite sure what to expect. She's 13 weeks now and unless she's worked up she does a great job with stay and come and no, and pretty good with stay. I think she is learning to drop though I've only worked on it about 3-4 reps and don't know if it is coincidence. Doesn't seem to show much inclination to fetch however. Lots of time to work on that. She's a yellow lab. Great kid.
  10. Hey, the topic is "It's quiet around here" not "let's talk hockey" Seriously, Sprig. I can understand where residents are coming from. I grew up in Milbank SD, a little town of about 3500 ppl in northeast SD. Any of the rest of my life was spent in Fergus Falls MN. Pretty rural stuff (and much preferred to my Mpls location, too). Anyway, I wouldn't want a lot of citified hunters around my territory either. I will say that I do not believe I and my bro-in-laws fit the citified hunter stereotype. Yes, one has a Tahoe but hey, you need that to haul 3-4 guys and 2 dogs on a 3-4 day trip. Other than that we are pretty down home, beer budget hunters. We get a tired of seeing land that is leased and unavailable, and have pretty much quit going to SD now because of the costs to hunt on land. Iowa and ND are still pretty accessible. I even hesistate to mention on this site that we like to go to ND just because I hate to publicize it myself. I will state for the record: We ask for permission, we close gates, we leave the land the way we found it, and we offer game to our hosts. That land is being leased and paid for to hunt on exclusively is a tragedy, IMO. However, if that is what I would have to do one day to have a chance to hunt, I would probably do so. I am not ready to give up hunting yet.
  11. Geez, that's a lot of shooting, Goon. Had duck for the first time myself last year. We did bring a few home from Sprig's neck of the woods. Have heard a lot of people rip wild duck. Yeah, it may not be much to drink but hey, if you know how to stuff and baste it it can be #### tasty. I'm for eating some more of it. The snowstorm hit the second day of our trip last year. We hunted for 2 days with decent success, considering. And then the hunt was cut short due to the unfortunate and untimely death of my brother-in-law's dog (vet thought it was some sort of rare bacterial infection). Man, was that a downer. Man, now you've got me talking about it. I'm all pumped up for this fall. We'll have an experienced springer machine, and 2 pups working the fields for us this fall. Can't wait. It will be a bit wild, but fun. I just wish there were a few more birds here in south central MN
  12. I remember from last year there were more than enough ducks for everyone.
  13. I'm dying for fall too, Sprig.

    2003-2004

I agree that it doesn't seem likely that Murray would spend an additional year in juniors. Better than Parise? My, that would be something. Let's hope they both can translate their talent to the D1 level. I would like to see him play more, that is for sure. I saw one Shattuck game this year and Murray was fun to watch. Speedy, and good on the boards.

Is Blais going to be on vacation during recruiting next year? This coming year the Sioux will have 3 seniors: Spie, Notermann, and Leinweber.
  16. Another good article on a UND player http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/sports/3298317.htm
  17. About Ludwig, is that because of Tippett, or for other reasons...?
  18. From today's Herald:

  20. What the #### does that mean? A cerebral player can only benefit from 30+ more games? Does that mean they thought Derrick was already a smart kid? I don't get it. My guess is the Senators would want me to stay in school.

    NCAA

Oh my. They really get into it. Literally put me to sleep. Some insightful stuff:

    NCAA

Thanks all. This is what I was wondering about the NCAA. Without being critical, this information is coming from people who are not fans of the organization. I can't say I am either. I would be interested in the opinion of someone who is a supporter of the organization as well just to see the "positive" slant. However, this info seems to confirm what I was concerned about. It seems to be a powerful, non-profit organization that runs its show as if it needs to squeeze money out of its decisions, rather than just do what is right. It relates to the so-called money-saving decisions not to have teams fly for the NCAA tournament regionals, if possible, and other such decisions. I just think that the money grubbing attitude is eventually going to over-commercialize college hockey and ruin it in the long run. And for what reason? Not even an increase in stock price. Just individual power.
  23. It was in yesterday's Herald the the regional was already awarded to REA. Just kidding. It did say that REA was going to bid for the 2003 regional. Don't know any more than that.

    NCAA

Here's why I was asking. I read how tournament schedules, locations, team assignments, etc are often due to making sure the NCAA makes the most money. So, where does this money go to? Is this a non-profit org or is it for-profit? Who gets the money and what do they do with it? Why do they need more money than to just cover the costs of administering a tournament, etc.....

    Alums

Can he consult with next year's Sioux squad to improve the performance in that area?
