  1. When I said "let's not expect too much" I was referring to Parise. People who think that Parise is going to step in and lead the program to a National Championship in his first year are delusional. Now, I know no one has really said that, but there are lots of people putting reasonable expectations on his accomplishments for next year, and there appear to be people who think this will be a one man team. That's too much to ask of Zach. That's all I was referring to. As for me expectations of the team, I'm already pumped up for next year. Do I think they win the WCHA? No. I do expect a top 5 finish. There will be several very good teams in the league again next year, it is going to be a dogfight. MN will be the favorite, and Denver should be there too. Who knows where the Sioux might finish, possibly even 3rd? So I expect a nice improvement over this year. I just don't expect Zach to be out there all by himself.

    Title Game

I was cheering for a tie.
  3. It hurt no less than it did for the gopher fans watching the 89 game on Thurs. Except they got to win a few minutes later. Always, hurts to watch the Sioux lose that game but i still love watching the 3rd period of regulation. It would hurt far more if our team had been expected to win that game and we choked it away. I was pretty happy that they clawed and scratched to get as far as they did. They did pretty good, didn't they!

    Very cool, greyeagle
  5. I think the question will begin to be answered next October. Let's not expect too much.

    Title Game

Born in 1963. I can't believe I am older than a guy named "greyeagle". All I can think of is the old large eagle on the Muppet show.

    Title Game

Greyeagle, I'm happy for Gopher fans like you. Welcome to our board. There are other gopher fans, however, that I wish would have watched a losing effort.....

I was there and thought this was the most fun game I have watched.

    Hobey

Congratulations to Leopold. I have no problem with him winning it. Like you said, seems like a great guy. Maybe in the next few years UND will find another Hobey gem...
  10. I forgot about Bemidji. I was very impressed with the gopher fans in attendance last night. At certain points of the game they just stood and gave their team a standing O. These must have been different fans than have the season tickets at Mariucci.
  11. Really enjoyed all the gopher fans telling us Sioux jersey wearing fans that the Sioux weren't playing yesterday. Also enjoyed the quiet when we reminded them of the numerous appearances we HAVE made in the last 5 years and, funny, didn't remember seeing them once. As the game wore on and the score went up for the Gophers last night, the gopher fans around us became even more bold. O well, just keeps the passion on the rivalry. I saw fans wearing paraphernalia from: Gophers Sioux UNH Maine Michigan CC AA UNO Air Force Ohio State St. Larry Badgers Bowling Green St. Cloud BC BU MI State Who have I forgotten. I was very proud of all the Sioux fans there. I think we were definitely in the top 5 as far as numbers, maybe even in the top 3-4. Way to go SIOUX!
  12. Alarys was a good bar. Talked briefly with some Sioux fans that Kiork had referred over. Took off later to grab a bite somewhere else. Sorry I missed everybody else. Our little group might make Alarys our between games stop from now on. Far enough to avoid the crowds.
  13. Yes, he will come in 2003 with Murray.
  14. One thing I noticed about the X last night was how difficult it is to egress the facility. Man, no exits.... We were on club level. They actually stop running the escalator from club level while the escalate people from the 200 level seats because the doors in the NW corner of the arena can't handle the exodus. When you finally do get down there you can't move to exit. Bad. As for the good, Cary Eades came over to talk with me and my 3 Sioux fans before the MN game last night. We were all in Sioux jerseys. He was sitting close by and he came over to ask who we were going to route for. When we recognized who he was we had a fun and quick chat about old time Sioux hockey. Of course, after he walked away we think of all the fun stuff we should have asked him about but couldn't think of. For me, it made my day to get to meet one of the Sioux legends. Nice guy, too.
  15. I'm no expert but I think that Sat game will be a blow-out by MN. Wasn't impressed with either hockey least team today and I don't think I have seen the gophers play better defense than tonite.
  16. I noticed them a few months ago on a USHR article. Makes you wonder.........
  17. YES!!!! In 1997 we won the National Championship! NOW IT'S GUARENTEED!!!!!! Thanks Greyeagle!

I was going to work on this a little more but since this topic has come to the top again I'll post what I have so far. I have not included the NHL guys at this time. Here are former Sioux players in the minors and overseas that I was able to find. I used a couple of "former Sioux in the pros" lists so hope this covers most everybody. If there is anyone else you think of maybe I will devote some more lunch time to trying to track them down. These teams are their 2001-2002 teams. 19. I am in section C18. There will be 4 of us Sioux fans in Sioux jerseys sitting together. I have a green road jersey (previous logo) with 87 on the back. Say hi anytime. Whoever gets to Alarys first should try to arrange for seating for several people as it sounds like besides my group of 4 Sioux (and there will probably be 2 gopher fans with us) there will be 4-5 others coming as well. Hopefully more. Looks like Digger, ScottM, forecheck, maybe Rick might be there. Anyone else??? Goon, jk, etc???
  20. Don't know anything about the photoshoot stuff. My small group is planning a walk down to Alary's for a pop or 2. Our meal plans are flexible. If there's food that fits our desires at Alarys and we enjoy it there we may stay there an eat, returning for the game. Otherwise we will make a decision to move on to an eating establishment of our choice before the eve game. Hope to meet some of you at Alary's!
  21. Wow, that's pretty impressive praise:
  22. Good work Sicatoka. There are other interesting comparisons as well. However, there's not way to create any correlations. For instance, Tom Philion had 9 points that year, and it was his best year ever. Schneider has 14 points this year. Curtis Murphy had 16 his first year. In the next year, Peter Armbrust never scored as well as he did his freshman year. Let's look at some key contributors and their first year points: Bryan Lundbohm = 11 Jay Panzer = 10 Jason Ulmer = 8 Jeff Ulmer = 8 Brad Williamson = 4 Matt Henderson = 4 I think there is enough evidence here to keep one from panicking about the future performance of the 2001-2002 freshmen. At least I won't. In fact, they seem to stack up fairly well in comparison.
  23. jk, thanks for the lead. I modified my original post to add freshman stats for the last several years.
  24. tickets are sold. FYI
