  1. May have to check this place out when we come up for the Duluth series.
  2. You need fewer chain restaurants, and get some good quality mom & pop types. Not American family either, but real Italian, Mexican, Indian, whatever. But real stuff. Seems like our society is getting more and more comfortable with the chains, and losing the flavor of the real cultures. It's possible there won't be enough call for that in GF, but I'd like to see more of that all over.
  3. Dudette, how do you associate "Savage Storm" with American Indians when there is no imagery used? That was my point.
  4. On Zajac's GWG against the Gophers Woog pointed out that this was one of the few times the Sioux had had a clean transition out of their own zone, and look what they did with it.
  5. You've got my vote. You've communicated more clearly than I many of the thoughts I've had. Finding the right music, cutting out the tracks that are appropriate, have them cued up and ready to play at a moments notice, and go. As for popular music, you said exactly what I'm thinking. I get tired of much of today's popular music because it's brooding and moody. How about Trooper's Raise a Little Hell? I think someone might already have mentioned this one. It's appropriate....they're Canadian. Think chunks of these lyrics could work in the right places?
  6. BCHL board full of speculation on how bad Zajac's shoulder seperation is, whether he'll be out a few weeks or all year and need surgery. Hopefully it's not too bad. Short ditty on Genoway on the BCHL page here
  7. Thiessen still with a saves% of .923 good for 3rd in the league of goalies who have played any significant time.
  8. You know, I can handle what Irmen did. I'm sure he was getting plenty of crap from the fans and that was a "give it back" gesture. Same for what Lammy did in Mpls after the GWG on Saturday. However, I have no issue with that as long as things remain spontaneous and we don't start seeing the "pro sport" mentality. Kessel's deal wouldn't bother me much if it was quick, but the carrying on that I read about concerns me that this is a trend we are going to regret. I do wonder if the same fans who ripped Lammy are supporting Kessel....
  9. Yes, and the reference to American Indians is where?
  10. I don't recall hearing that Denver lost anybody during their bucky series, but it's suddenly not good to be WI or to play them. I would guess Elliot and Irmen are probably about just as important to their respective teams. My impression this year is that Irmen is the spark that lights the gopher fire.
  11. Congratulations to St. Cloud. It sucks to get swept at home, and by a team below us in the standings. I alluded to it in my post last night, and Farce said it clearly....this is NOT Craig Dahl's Huskie hockey team anymore. This is a better team. I'm not excusing scoring only 2 goals, but let's be clear that SCSU is a much better team than they've been for a few years. Unfortunately, our team isn't playing at its best potential. Not good. There's still time, and I'll be hoping to see things come together as the season wears on, but time and opportunities are awfully short. I'm happy to hear Hak's comments that the team seems to have played ok tonite. Maybe tonite was just one of those nights. It gives me hope that we'll see better results as time goes on. Glad I'm not a Duluth fan this year....
  12. That must have just burned Nancy Motzko.
  13. Watched the game at Sensers tonite. Curious if anyone listened to Hak after the game. I'd like to hear what he had to say. I thought the Sioux came out flying. They really took it to SCSU and I was surprised they didn't get one in the net. That's my impression anyway. SCSU calmed things down a bit but I thought the Sioux had the better of the play in the first. I thought SCSU had the better of the play for large parts of the 2nd period. The Sioux worked hard but had some difficulty keeping any continuity offensively. In the 3rd it seemed to come and go. It was unfortunate that the Sioux did seem most disorganized during crunch time, and maybe that has something to do with youth. Anyway, it's my fault because I called a sweep earlier tonite. And in the 3rd I said this looks like the kind of game where the next goal is going to win it. And sure enough.... The 2nd goal was a deflection off of Chorney. I couldn't tell exactly what it hit but it bounced up and knuckleballed at Lammy, and appeared to handcuff him and sneak under his left elbow. Bummer. I thought the Sioux all appeared to work hard tonite, but SCSU kept them from the front of the net for large parts of the game, and rarely, if ever, left anyone alone out there. Where's Dahl when we need him? SCSU didn't give up to many chances. Over all, the Sioux didn't commit too many penalties. Kaip looked solid from what I could see. Lee again made a few questionable decisions dumping the puck around behind his own net. Oshie looked very good, and so did Toews. His goal was a beauty, and great work by the guys who set him up. Oshie, with less than a minute left and you are breaking in on the goalie, it might be best to take the open shot instead of trying to thread the pass through traffic to the other winger. You almost pulled it off. And the Sioux almost tied it up. For the Lee watchers, you would have been very happy to see him put an SCSU player DOWN at center ice with a crushing body check. That was nice to see. Anyway, more knowledgeable types who saw the game might have different take on the game than I did, but I find it hard to be too upset with the game tonite. Disappointed? Yes. Upset? No.
  14. They definitely should give up the name "Braves" if they give up at this point.
  15. This is an example of why it's hard to understand the opposition to the nickname in the first place. It's like protest for the sake of protest. Finding offense where there is none.

    UND hosts SCSU

We'll see how much hacking and slashing and holding SCSU does this weekend. They will certainly be on the fan's radar screen. As for Motzko, funny how accusations of UND being a team that fights has it's roots with MN, a team that takes it's fair share of whacks with the stick, after the whistle face-washes and bumps.
  17. A little feature on Trupp on the BCHL board

    UND hosts SCSU

Don't know what's up with that. UND plays a rough game, and gives it's share of grief to the other team, but no more than many other teams in the league, including the one where Motzko learned that little myth.
  19. Without looking at the caption, any else see Jeff Panzer's family resemblence in the photo at the bottom of this story? '56 Olympic Hockey Team

I had an idea on how to escalate this but have decided I value my posting priviledges more.
  21. In today's Herald is a story on Stafford. I didn't link it here but you can find it on the front page of SS. I was shocked to find out that Drew is younger than 4 of our freshmen this year, and younger than our whole sophomore class. I think that bears remembering, when we expect so much from him. It's true that he's got more playing experience at this level, but in physical and mental maturity, he's right with the younger ones on the team.
  22. Yes, but our #5-6 D. SCSU is down their top scorer (goal scoring and pts/gm). They do have their top goalie back. In this situation, I'd prefer to have Sparky over Finley as I believe we'll need the offense more than the defense. SCSU may make me eat my words, but I hope not.
