WHOA! Graham Kracker appears to be a minority within his own people. The Sioux people should not have to suffer any "consequences" because of Miles Brand and a few people who think like Graham Kracker. It might be worth changing the name one day, but only after UND wins this fight and can do it on their own terms. We all claim that the Native Americans have bigger problems to deal with than complaining about a nickname. Well, then we must understand if they chose to worry about those problems and not force the issue that the majority of them do indeed support UND. Take what support we are able to get from those willing to give it. Know that UND is on the right side of this debate. Fight the good fight, and let the chips fall where they may. But the average Native American is not obligated to have a dog in this hunt.

This completely misses the point. UND cannot just "go away" in the nickname battle. The NCAA level serious accusations, ones they cannot prove. Why should UND be the ones to just go away and accept the imposed guilt? UND should only go kicking and screaming into that good night, because this issue is more about free speech and fighting against the easy but wrong way out of our problems.

Well, the circumstancial/rumored evidence points toward your find. Name is Anthony, and he's listed at 6' 1" and from the Toronto area. That fits the evidence better than this candidate below: ...but doesn't seem as exciting. However, Anthony Grieco is still only 17. Won't turn 18 until this November. If Parise leaves, maybe this kid has shown that he's got the skills to get better as he gets older. He can apprentice under Lammy for a year or 2, and then take over when he's more physically and mentally mature.

Someone said a "goaltender from Toronto" earlier in one of these threads. They also said 6' 2". What about this kid? He's not that tall, but he's properly sized for a Sioux goalie. And he's from the Toronto area. Co-rookie of the year in the 10 team East division of the OPJHL. And tied for best goals against in that division.

I only vaguely seem to remember some talk about it happening for that game, so maybe I'm wrong. I wasn't there myself.

Hey, I LIKE the geometric logo jersey! (I have a green one) They do wear throwback jerseys each year (at least in recent years) but they have not been of the Blackhawk variety. As you can see you have a little different version than that worn through the 80's. I think this was a pretty special deal. Because the Blackhawk logo is often perceived to be controversial, I think UND stays away from using that jersey as a throwback. My guess would be that for the last game in the Old Ralph, it was worth the risk of using a logo that had been seen in that building for most of it's life.

I'm a big "Fabian on the checking line" guy. Fabian can chip in a goal or two but we need a line with experience, physicality and moxie to hold down the opponent's big line. I trust Fabian in that role. Fabian and Kaip and Zajac might be able to do that very well. LaPoint is a defenseman. FYI

How many centers does this team have? I wonder if Watkins needs to center a 3rd or 4th line.

Seems the APR thing might have more affect on hockey being that players often finish their collegiate season and go play pro somewhere. Sometimes they get into the playoffs and their last quarter/semester is shot. Seems like other sports don't have that sort of intra-session conflict.

I'm going to bet that there will be another body coming next fall that we're not aware of. With 14 forwards and 8 defensemen (counting Genoway as a defenseman), a lot rides on Bina's health. The key might be Alexander. If Alexander can be a player, maybe the coaches are willing to live with what Bina can give them. That would mean 8 D optimally, and at least 7 if Bina can't go. If Alexander is a practice body, then suddenly depth at D is scary. I'm going to count Genoway at D because it seems accepted logic that it's harder to learn defense, so they will keep him working at D. (This assumes he was recruited to play D, which I admit I don't know) 14 forwards is livable but not preferred for starting the season. You can't tell what will happen during the season. Lucia started running out of forwards last year, for instance. So with Zajac and VandeVelde, the Sioux only have 14, and in my above scenario I count Genoway at D. Either Forney or Trupp is going to come next year, or else we find another late addition ala Prpich. I don't care much for the late addition scenario, because there won't be too many seasoned players available of the quality for UND. Prpich found a niche on this team, but I doubt there's too many impact recruits who will be sitting by the phone in the next few weeks. That being the case, and since Forney is projected to go high in the draft (and likely not to be here for 4 years) I think maybe you wring everything you can out of him before he moves on to the pros, ankly and shoulder permitting. Then you move on to goaltending. This is a whole soap opera in itself. What's Parise going to do? #1Hakfan and Triouxper have already called this one, so I'm going to make the assumption that Parise leaves in my scenario. So now the coaches have to locate another goalie for next year. Lammy is a good goalie, so he's my #1. Walski is my #3. I'm not that familiar with what the list of top goalie recruit prospects looks like. Is there a top caliber recruit available at this point in time? It would seem like no, since they are usually snapped up fairly quickly. Does that mean the Sioux have to land another body to fill a hole during practice until next year when they can land another top recruit while hoping Lammy can not only carry the load but stay healthy? The Sioux wanted Cheverie last year and lost to Denver. After which Cheverie's numbers dropped quite a bit in the BCHL, so maybe that's ok. The Sioux were linked to Thiessen, and that appeared to be a strong bet the way the smoke was flying on the internet (where there's smoke there's fire.....). And the Sioux were apparently finalists for Kangas but lost to MN. Just before the Kangas commitment Thiessen committed out east. So this begs the question: Were the coaches confident they would land Kangas and therefore let Thiessen slip out east? Were the coaches confident Parise would be around next year so they allowed Thiessen to go and take their chances with Kangas (knowing that if they lost Kangas they'd have this coming year to find another Sioux caliber goalie recruit)? #1Hakfan recently hinted at a goalie recruit commitment in the next couple of weeks. Was that a hint? Or just a rhetorical question? I guess we'll see... So, in my scenario, next year's roster questions hang on Parise, Bina, Alexander and Forney in their respective ways.
