And they've got the banners to prove it.

Those shirts were all over ... including earlier at the WCHA tournament in St Paul.

https://www.hockey-reference.com/boxscores/199304130MNS.html Heckuva box score also The final penalty taken by a Minnesota North Star in their last home game? Brad Berry. Winning goalie? Ed Belfour. And two of my other all time favorites were on the Chicago bench: Troy Murray and Dave Christian. Thanks for the flashback.

Have you heard (or has anyone else) about the number of conference games the CCHA will play? If there's a 24 game conference season, that leaves 10 non-conference games and much more room for interesting games to come to Mankato.

Does UND put RP grinders into their COA calculations? -
Sorry bro. March 16, 1968 Denver 4, UND 0.

Is that the one where in the alternate universe the puck rolls down the UMD goalies back and in instead of landing on top of net?

Since Hockey East split off in 1984, the ECAC has 4 national championships as a league.

Back when they were Goaltender U.

Given the growing reputation of Karl Goehring as a superb coach of young goaltenders, if you are a goaltender in the Transfer Portal and he calls, what would you say in response?

Sorry, my bad. Yeah, they left so they could play somewhere quieter. Too loud at the old Winter Sports Building. Some of the big hitters liked to deliver hits in front of us because sometimes the boards checked back ... The guys who scored goals were tired of dodging thrown gophers, geese, a three-foot styrofoam puck ("stop this one, you sieve") and the occasional tennis ball. And the PK guys hated getting a long break while someone chased down a live chicken. (Wish I could take credit for that one, or at least shake the hand of the person who did.) It all added up to an atmosphere where they couldn't wait to get out. And the money had nothing to do with it. Nope.

After the 1979-1980 season, 14 guys weren't on the roster in 1980-1981. Departures were a mix of seniors, guys turning pro (Smail, Taylor etc) and a couple guys who didn't return for lack of playing time. Two more who were at the Olympics had eligibility remaining and also turned pro (Kevin Maxwell and Dave Christian), so you could count 16 total players to replace. 1980-1981 was a learning season but UND brought in some incredible players (Troy Murray, Jon Casey), and the freshman class for 1981-1982 was amazing.

If I'm starting an NHL team, I'd start with a two-way center who plays 200 feet, wins faceoffs so we have the puck all night long, strong on his skates, and can score besides. He might not win the Hobey, but a lot of teams would love to have Pinto on their roster.
-
I had to look it up to be sure my recollection was as good as yours. The guys who stayed are still in the NHL. Gaudreau 500 games and point-a-game stats. Nyquist 570 games in the NHL. The guy who signed, Borgstrom, played 50 games in the NHL and is now playing in Sweden.

Getting 3 of 18 UND skaters named is about as many as we can expect. Congrats to Pinto, Kierstad and Kawaguchi,

Good topic: How to fix regionals. The attendance and location part of the topic have gotten lots. But your point, about when games are played, is a good add. For example: Friday: Play four games / two regionals' semifinals Saturday: Play four games / two regionals' semifinals Sunday: Play two regional finals Monday: Play two regional finals And yes, with an off day, game times don't matter, and that 5 OT semifinal is less of a handicap.

I like to snark on Bob Motzko, and everything Rodent, as much as anyone. But he does have a point that the #1 seed should play the early game. (Of course, out West, Mankato should have been the #1 seed so that one evened out ... )
-
Odd coincidence of the day. In 2005, UND won the Regional Beanpot with a combined score of 10-3 over two games. In 2021, SCSU won their Regional Beanpot with a combined score of, yes, 10-3 over two games.

Montreal asked him to play defense AND to learn how to pass the puck. So he had to think about it.

Three Minnesota schools in the Frozen Four. And none are Gophers.

At that point I would root for Covid to win it all, if it was Gophers vs Duluth. "Covid wins NCAA Mens Ice Hockey Title for 2021."

Even with this outcome, I would still have voted for Sanderson as the game's #1 star. And the Midwest Regional MVP. I only wish I had a vote.

I would love to see ice time stats in this one.
