You can say that again!

Chay Genoway - older brother "Behold the Power of Colby" Genoway played hockey for UND.

OK, but seriously, nobody in their right mind would leave the WCHA. And, I can't see the WCHA adding teams (borderline too many already). The most that can happen is the scheduling agreement with Bemidji so their program can stay afloat until a viable conference choice comes up ...

I heard that the WCHA traded Alaska Anchorage to Hockey East. In exchange, the WCHA gets Maine.

Maybe my ears are better than when I'm young, but I don't remember so DA## many advertisements over the PA. Not to mention doing it in the middle of a sieve chant, as happened against Denver in the 3rd period. Let's sell the home ice advantage for a few bucks, or for a 5th reminder about the Sioux Kids Club. We heard you the first 4 times. If there's one easy change I'd make to improve atmosphere, it would be to suspend PA advertisements in the 2nd half of the game, and let the band and the fans boost the home team.

I like what you have ... but here's a stab at describing the Ralph: Grand Forks is home to "one of the most beautiful buildings we have in North America", the Ralph Engelstad Arena. Wayne Gretzky, author of that quote, has certainly seen his share of arenas. "The Ralph", as its affectionately known, is indeed a palace on the prairie. Built to last, it features polished granite floors, counters and quality infrastructure. Built for comfort, it features great sightlines, 48 luxury suites, and 11,604 cherry wood seats upholstered in leather. Built to help recruiting, it showcases the tradition and history of University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux hockey. The lobby celebrates championships, displaying 7 national championship trophies, while the concourses are decorated with photos and bios of All-Americans and professional hockey players. Behind the scenes, the training and rehab facilities are second to none. This treasure was funded by a $104 million gift from former Fighting Sioux goaltender Ralph Engelstad. In less than 7 years, its already hosted the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championships, the 2008 World Curling Championships, set a record for attendance at the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey West Regional, and drawn the largest crowd for basketball in the state's history, over 12,000 for a match between UND and the Kansas Jayhawks (should check that last). The University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux hockey teams play their home games in the Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Ralph is a $104 million arena that seats 11,640. The concourses of the REA are covered in granite flooring, each spectator seat is made of cherry wood and leather upholstery, escalators bring spectators between levels, and full-color LCD displays dot the arena. The arena was donated by former Fighting Sioux goaltender Ralph Engelstad. NHL great Wayne Gretzky was quoted calling the arena "one of the most beautiful buildings we have in North America" during the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championships, which Grand Forks hosted. Only walking through the concourse of The Ralph can you truly start to appreciate the storied history of Fighting Sioux Hockey. Every great player in the history of the program has a spot on the walls of the arena, immortalized on giant graphics that show everything from the seven National Championship teams to hockey card-like posters of players that include statistics from the player

Chicago attendance would be fine. All they need is a commercial starring Toews.

I was won over by the enthusiasm of the Notre Dame cheering section, both Thursday and Saturday. They seemed excited just to be there, but determined to show as much support as they could. (Even the "80" year old gentleman sitting next to me.) Notre Dame becoming a dominant power in college hockey raises the bar for the rest of us ... their immense financial resources will mean a big arena and the ability to schedule who they want, when and where they want.

Fighting Sioux All-Decade Team: The 1980s
farce poobah replied to Dave Berger's topic in Men's Hockey
Good idea Dave. We've got 6 months to kill before the puck drops ... Jon Casey came within .01 of leading the WCHA in GAA 3 consecutive years. Only 1 goalie has accomplished that - Tony Esposito. Belfour had 1 great year and was by far the better pro, but Casey was the better college goalie. Taylor and Smail had only the one year in the 1980's, but it was a year where they made 3 years worth of plays. Upfront, if I was really building a team (vs. an all-star team) I would put Dave Tippett and Gord Sherven up front somewhere. These are guys who made a living shutting down NHL stars after doing it in college. -
Miami lost on purpose just to get back at all the North Dakota fans that were ragging on them all year long.

Come on guys, let's play 20 minutes with pride.

Flickertails ARE intimidating. -
By car: .... leave Bismarck at 5am CDT ... arrive Denver at 3pm MDT (at least on Mapquest, 11 hours, 710 miles)

Much appreciated - thank you for posting.

"Hey BC: Sucks to BU."

What's your point? We have 6 months of offseason coming up in just 7 short days. Mocking Lucia, Eaves, and Gwozdecky is a primary offseason sport. And its way easier than golf.
-
OK, OK, OK. I did the math. So, if we can just win two more games, [drum roll please] we'll be #1 in the Pairwise.

That's a really poorly written, poorly researched article. My daughter edits a high school paper that does better fact checking. NOBODY was ejected on November 10. Good grief. Its not that hard, people. Google is a wonderful thing. http://collegehockeystats.net/0708/boxes/mndkwis1.n10

For anyone still working on flights, a tip - look into flying into Colorado Springs. On nwa.com: $1000 MSP to DEN. $375 to COS. I can drive an hour for $600.

Because the shot counter at the Ralph is on crack. (According to Jamie Russell, anyway.)

Being parochial here, but I'd suggest going to the Tickets For Sale section of this forum. http://forum.siouxsports.com/index.php?showforum=14

Clearly, Badger fans weren't smart enough to draw the inference there ... But seriously, coins are da@@ dangerous. I'd be livid if it were someone near me.

Tonight marks an 8-game winning streak in NCAA Regionals: * Beanpot in 2005 (BC, BU) * Ralph in '06 (MI, HC) * The Can in 2007 (MI, MN) -- the Sioux are unbeaten all time at the pepsi center * Madison, 2008 Pretty awesome string.

I think the key was that 1 minute into the 3rd period I put my white Sioux jersey on. I was pretty angry about the effort through 40 minutes. That's not the way to play. That's not the way to end the season. We were better than that, but it took 40:01 to get things in motion. I just refused to believe we weren't better than Wisconsin. By the time the puck dropped in OT, I could have accepted either outcome, because the guys played with pride and heart the last 20 minutes (and the 2 minutes of OT). You can't control the bounces of the puck, but you can control your effort and how hard you go after it. ========================================= As to game analysis, one thing that's impossible to see on TV (or radio!) is lines. Sounded like (looked like) Eaves was burning his top guys, while we rolled 4 lines, more or less, through 2 periods. Their best guys took some long LONG shifts, and paid for it late in the game. Our guys definitely were quicker in the last period.

Come On SIOUX!!! You are on the road - now PLAY LIKE ITS SATURDAY!!!
