  1. We also wouldn't have a program without the Canadians. Sioux-Hab-it is entitled to their opinion like your are.

Exactly -we need both - it seems like you and hab-it believe otherwise.

  2. Just for the records Sioux-Hab-it adds some good points so what if they don't like the way Minnesota hockey plays I am cool with that. Just their opinion. We have had a lot of Canadians that have worn the Sioux jersey.

We don't have a Sioux hockey program without players from Minnesota - they started it.

Anyone of them would shove a stick in your ear if they had too.

Judging players soley by where they came from sounds a lot like Gopher fans. We're better than that.

  3. It was in the post game comments. Lee gave Brad May some stickwork and when May called him on it he did the most pathetic please don't hurt me turtle I have ever seen. I only wish Don Cherry didn't highlight that Brian Lee was a product of the University of North Dakota. I sent him a message reminding him that the Sioux have produced the likes of Commodore and Greene. I added that the likes of Brian Lee are a product of the Minnesota hockey system.

Ever hear of Jack Carlson, Bill Butters, or Paul Holmgren. Say that to their face.

Beter yet, say it Corey Fienhage - he'll rearrange your face.

Congratulations -you're from Canada. Keep it to yourself.

It looks like your a Canadian first - Sioux fan second. We don't need you.

  4. Really, it would be a legitimate concern. Funny you ask but the NCAA awarded D.C. the Frozen Four and then the NCAA did a site visit because were concerned about ice concerns ex-post facto. So yeah it would be a concern that they will have to address, being a big venue they are also going to have to monitor the ice conditions. They these issues when the NCAA had a tourney in Cincinnati as well.

I heard they were going to use the "Winter Classic" crew and equip at Ford Field.

They will be able to controll the temps at Ford Field - this is the only issue regarding ice at the outdoor venues.

It'll probably be better ice than at the Ralph.

  5. I may not be popular with this answer but...

I'd rather have Rowney come in next year and have Mattson take a year of juniors rather than vice versa. Yeah, Mattson is the more talented, but I think Rowney is a better choice as a platoon player. I see Mattson as someone that will get lots of ice time when he comes in. I'd rather him season himself to a higher level of competition than HS hockey first.

Mattson's status will be influenced, I beleive, by the entry draft. He will be the highest draft of our draft-eligible recruits (including the AJHL boys). If he is a top 2 round pick, his time here will be influenced by his rights holder, like it or not.

The clock is ticking on Kristo already. A big freshman season (including another stint at the WJC) could make him consider jumping. I see him as a 2-year player at the most.

Mattson should come here in 09 if there is room. Better 3 years here than 2 in my opinion.

  6. Sure. If he graduated high school last year he should have come. But he graduates this spring. :D

He's got great speed/hands and very creative - he could be a good one.

The article talks about the "attitude adjustment" he needed. Better late than never - hopefully Hak won't have to have a chat like that with him.

I've always thought this is the downside to having a player bounce around from team to team when they are young (

  7. ^I wholeheartedly agree with you, but only to a point.

If "we" allow college hockey to continue to diminish in numbers, the sport will reach a point of no return. College hockey may already be there, as we're now down to what, 58 teams? In how many boardrooms do you imagine college honchos are looking for places to cut expenses and saying, "obviously, hockey has to go."? It is a regional sport with a rabid but geographically-limited fanbase. It is expensive to have a team (facilities, equipment, travel) and the financial rewards in most instances simply don't justify the cash outlay.

I think UND (and every other strong program) has to do everything it can to make sure Bemidji and similar programs remain in existence. If that means giving up a series with one of the teams you mentioned, that represents the bitter medicine necessary to make all of college hockey healthy again.

Remember everyone - at one time we were a "Bemidji State" as well. It was 60 years ago when Big 10 universities let us start competing with them in hockey.

If Mich and Minn blow us off 60 years ago, we probably aren't having this conversation.

  8. Oilers have agreed to a three-year entry level contract with prospect Jordan Eberle

Looks like theres a still a chance that VV comes back.

    http://www.hockeysfuture.com/articles/1096...cts_spring2009/

Of there top prospects, VV ranks 8th and basically everyone before him has signed a contract, besides Riley Nash (maybe one or two more i didnt take the time to look).

    Gives me hope!

If the Oilers value VV they don't want him playing out his Sr. season and potentially losing him.

I would be surprised if he is back next year.

  9. Remember everyone - he was recruited as a F/D and played his first 13 games for the Sioux as a F.

He gets it done as a D (conf D of the year) but he doesn't have the D instincts a player like Taylor Chorney had/has.

It will be good to have him back - he will need a D partner that will back him up when he goes on offense.

  10. For anyone that lives in the Twin Cities area and hasn't seen him play yet, you can watch Derek Forbort this weekend in the advanced select 17's at the Plymouth Ice Arena. They take the best 54 players from this weekend and invite them back on April 17-19 for the last tryout before the national selects. Forbort's section 7 team will play Friday night so if anyone wants to watch him it won't interfere with our game. Also note that the national select 17 festival in July isn't in Saint Cloud anymore and was moved out to New York, so this weekend and a few weeks from now would be a good time to see some of these players. Here are the rosters and schedule,

Also, if you want to watch prospective players the advanced 16's are there this weekend as well, here is the rosters and schedule for that,

17's have been in Rochester for awhile - Cary Eades was a coach for one of the final 17 teams - Kristo verbaled soon after. I wonder how that happened?

  11. It was a disappointing weekend in our poor showing but exciting to to see the 'Dawgs win the F5.

Agreed - if we can't win it can't happen to a better guy than Scott S.

A big improvement over the drunken Bulldog fan in a yellow jersey, taunting Sioux fans after the game Friday.

I had to hold back my teenager - anyone else run into that clown?

  12. I am not trying to be sarcastic - just honestly looking for answers. What is the theory of the point men on our powerplay switching sides constantly? Was is coincidence that 9 times out of 10 when the puck comes to them, they are on their "off" hand for a one timer? I think conventional wisdom says, one strategy- when you are up against a goalie who is playing very well- is to get the puck to the point, shoot it (this is key in scoring (ok- that was a bit sarcastic- sorry)), and try for deflections, rebounds, or general trash of any kind. Why not change our power play half-way thru the UMD game or, failing that, half way thru the Wisonsin game? I know about changing horses midstream and all that, but when your horse is DEAD...aren't you just gonna drown?

This is the downside of having "balance."

We have some very good players but no "great" players and this gets exposed on the power play, when for the most part, your 10 best offensive players are on your 2 PP units. We have 2 players on the point that have, for the most part, have been journymen, not exhibit A PP quarterbacks. We also don't have players that will bury chances when available (shoot ofd the pass).

This is not a rip - just an observation. I think this team has overacheived, for the most part. We are what we are. Without future NHL goalscorers/puckhandling D, the PP is bound to be average.

From what I saw this weekend, we need quicker puck movement and qucker shot attempts. We get too many shots blocked as our shooters "tee it up."

The coaches know what they have to work with. I'm sure they'll come up with a game plan for the weekend.

  13. Didn't the NC$$ come out this year with some type of travel savings plan for the tournament. Something about the distance the teams have to travel as being factored into the assignment of regions process. If so, I would say it would be cheaper to have Duluth and UND bus to MSP than have either one of them have to fly for some distance. That flying is not cheap! Additionally, with Denver as a hub it might be cheaper having them have to fly to Grand Rapids or points east. Just wishful thinking on my part!

Actually, I believe that I am mistaken. I think the rule applies to the method of travel AFTER the team is assigned. IF it is below a certain distance then the team has to take the bus.

    Regionalization On Hold

"Regionalization," or the NCAA's cost-cutting restrictions on placement of teams in the NCAA tournament bracket, has been put on hold for one year, according to Steve Cady, chair of the Men's Division I Ice Hockey Committee and associate athletic director at Miami.
