Feel like this is about as legit as Fufeng.  There's a long trail of stench around Mr. Wonderful, unfortunately with no media in the market anymore to dig into this, people will never find that out until we're again left holding the bag.  If this was Berkshire Hathway there would be reason for excitement, but this feels like the Music Man, trouble in River City.

  2. One thing that Brad has left out, is that with the neutral site regionals, they have usually tried to then seed the tournament as completely as possible, with every regional seeded 1-4 based on PWR, so effectively the tourney is seed 1-16.  I think if they went to a seeds hosting, it would be like FCS or any of the other sports, where only the top 8 get seeded, and then it's regionalized from there, so depending on who is close by to minimize travel among the unseeded teams that's who'll you get.  I don't think  there would end up being many east-west matchups, which would be a real shame.  And with the games over spring break, I'm not sure that even home rinks would necessarily get the great attendance Brad predicts, especially when tickets are at NCAA prices.  Part of the problem is everyone would rather go to the Frozen Four, hoping their team gets that far.  Not sure there is any easy solution to this "problem".

Personally, I don't believe you are PWR safe unless you are locked in at 12 or better before conference tourney play.

AHA, and then get surprise winners in CCHA, ECAC, and B1G, and 16-13 are in trouble.

No CCHA team will get close to top 16. That league is below AHA this year. ECAC always seems to have an upset, so if Q doesn't win, top 13 seems almost a certain requirement  Would really need an unlikely Cinderella run in Big10 or HEA, but can't rule out a Duluth or possibly CC with their goaltending.

Should be an interesting second half.

The power play and empty net play on that ice looks like a tough defend deal. Bubbs said can’t get box too spread out and open lanes. But not pressuring puck allows so much time to set things up. Can’t do both!  Overall we did well enough but I sure was on edge of my seat during that play.

Yep. Olympic ice games might as well just be called power play. Glad they are disappearing.

Well, as for 2013 SIU, Bubba’s defense was not exactly something to write home about either …

2013 SIU: Averaged 28.5 ppg on offense and defense gave up 25.2 ppg.

So, you tell me; was the offense or the defense more impressive? And who did UND hire, the OC or the DC?

Who did their mutual boss endorse? An interesting question we'll never know the answer to.

So everyone that thought before the season started, with eight new defensemen and two new goalies, that UND would be a title contending team this season raise your hand.

Well the media picked them second in nchc and they started in top 10 in the national poll so that shows someone did. I figured Persson was a huge upgrade in goal and that offense would be better and hold things up until d corps settled in.

  7. The reality in today's college sports is that as a have, UND should be pulling in portal guys every year. Just like we will lose football players to FBS teams and basketball players to high majors. .

The overwhelming majority of our portal pickups have become solid contributors so staff clearly knows how to spot the right fits.

What ever happend to the sports info department?

we used to have guys who thought they are on the team

    nkw what do we have?

Sports info still seems pretty solid, just meant that it was also strong during the Wanless tenure, which showed he cared about all facets of department including elements not as visible to the average fan.

In other news, DeBoer is listed as the favorite for Saban’s job.

Never wanna be the guy that replaces THE GUY. He can build something special at Washington,  and I'd assume they will pony up to keep him.

Why are we comparing an AD to a President?
I know its an unpopular opinion, but UND's AD is one of the more highly respected one's at UND's level and in peer groups. There's a reason he's on multiple committees for different sports.  However, there is no argument that the W&L's need to get back to following the rest of the positive things going on though. A lot of sports were left in some pretty bad spots and turning things around isn't always as simple as we all wish it was.

Just out of curiosity, when's the last time UND has an AD that everyone universally loved? I can think of a issues going back quite a few decades.
    Faison?
    Buning?
    RT?
    Wanless?
    Gino?

He might not have been loved, but virtually every program was a big winner during Wanless' tenure.  Sports Info department was also well run, and marketing was light years better.

UND football is becoming a good farm program for the FBS.

That's what every program is. That's college football now. Just a money pit.

Cause our flagship U thinks - for some incredibly stupid reason - that football is second-tier …

There’s resources at UND for football coaches, but the department is mismanaged due to cultural issues (hockey, hockey, hockey) and historical trends. Rate of change is quite slow in the Dakotas, especially in Grand Forks.

I think you meant to say because no alums have stepped up the way Ralph Englestad did.

Did not watch the game but the fourth quarter PxP says UW did what they should've (starting at 1:09 remaining) for the most part regarding time; it's just that Texas had TOs to burn on first and second down.

    The bigger issues:
    - the UW injury on third would stop the clock (that's a free TO for Texas) <- that play was run to get first down and end the game; you may argue knee but knee guarantees having to punt where a first down as I said ...
    - a false start on fourth stops the clock again after the injury
    - a kick catch interference penalty giving Texas 15 free yards (16 to 31).

    https://gohuskies.com/sports/football/stats/2023/texas/boxscore/23328

You can't clock manage injuries or silly penalties; you can only manage around them when they happen.

Show me in that DeBoer's clock management mistake.

They ran a regular running play on the third down which resulted in the injury.  If they had taken a knee on that play, no injury, no clock stoppage, and punt goes back to Texas with them taking possession with about 10 secs. left and nearly full field to go.  The bigger mistake was on the previous drive when they threw an incomplete pass on third down, so Texas didn't have to take a TO before Washington went out 37-28. They left the Longhorns with the two TOs to use after not recovering onside kick.

It wasn't great clock management by UW in the fourth but they held on.

  14. I'm not crazy about the three week playoff.  That potentially leaves a lengthy break and chance to be rusty if you have a first round upset.  It also feels like they just took what everyone else is doing.  I guess it depends on what the purpose of the conference tourney is, generate money, get more teams into the NCAAs, etc.

I would have liked to see a more innovative format, that really awards regular season excellence.  I'd propose a straight single elimination tourney, but with a couple of modifications.

First week,  3 seed and 4 seed host.    1 and 2 seeds get bye to Semifinals.

    3 seed site (seeds 3, 6 and 7)

    Day 1 -  6 vs 7  Day 2 - 3 vs 6-7 winner to advance to semifinals

    4 seed site (seeds 4,5,8,9)

    Day 1 - 4 vs 9, 5 vs 8   Day 2 - Winners from day 1, winner advances to semifinals

    Week 2 - 1 seed hosts

Friday -  1 seed vs lowest remaining, 2 seed vs highest remaining,  Saturday - Championship

This format provides benefits for regular season performance

1 seed - hosts final four and receives off week and bye to semis

2 seed - receives off week and bye to semis

3 seed - hosts and only needs 1 win to make semifinal

4 seed - hosts games to reach semifinals

5-9 seeds -a chip and chance baby!

This also gives the host school 2 weeks to prepare for the finals and still keeps a somewhat tournament vibe.  It would also allow a TV partner to schedule all the games at different times over the 2 weekends, with the first round games at the 4 seed being Thursday and Friday and the games at the 3 seed being Friday and Saturday.

I think this will be trend in the near future for the top teams in FCS that head coaches are going to be leaving as soon as possible it's no-win situation for them with transfer portal and NIL money. Your expected to win and now you may recruit the talent to put together winning team and FBS will just come in take that talent with life changing money and portal makes it easy for them to do this but its one-time portal so the chance of stealing player being under-utilized is not happening if you have sit out year.

The last few power schools of FCS are jumping ship with few exceptions like NDSU because of our location and demographics making it hard for them or other Dakota schools to move up to FBS. The Missouri Valley and Big Sky may like i have said may need to form their own FBS conference from the top teams out of both of these conferences or accept what FCS is becoming old Division II of the 70's. College Football is changing and i be surprised near future large number of schools will be looking to drop it because of the above and economics of trying to make yourself competitive is going to be to high.

College football is becoming the USFL played in the fall with slightly more emotional attachment to the teams. Although even the USFL doesn't choose a champion with a beauty contest.

What "lower division"? In DI it's FBS, FCS, or no FB.

Pioneer League (non-scholly)? Sure, but what they save will be taken up by travel.

The "lower division" option is DII with Central and Western Washington.

looks like the voodoo economics of college sports are coming to light.  It's not just those schools. If you're offering the $4.99 rotisserie chicken you better be selling something else as well to make up for it, and most schools aren't.  A reckoning is coming.
