There's not enough information to draw that conclusion.  I'm pushing 50 so I have listened to TH as long as I can remember.  Listened to countless games, and the home games I've attended I'd listen to the pre and post-game shows.  He is Sioux hockey personified.  In listing the highest approval rating for UND athletics, TH has to be at or near the top.  He's a UND legend.

That said, it's time for him to hang up the microphone.

Agreed, this isn't like when Bo Schembechler fired Ernie Harwell in 1991. And the IHeart layoffs kind of forced UNDs hand. It would be ideal if they let him do a series of interviews or features like they have Virg Foss do. A Hennessy hockey podcast would be great. Not as rigorous as having to do PxP but keeps him involved with the program.

  2. The fact that athletic departments are looking to get bailed out by private equity should tell you sports run at a big loss. I hate to say it but athletics are the Costco hot dog of academia.

This should give UND the inside chance to land Landon Ruck and looks to be better than his brothers

If im the Fargo Force i look at trying to get landons rights. Worth a flyer.

Private equity (or outside investors of any kind) aren't doing this from the goodness of their heart.   They want a return on investment, which means profit extracted from sports revenues, at very high rates.

    Walk away.

PS Count me happy someone else got suckered in first.

Almost everything private equity touches goes bad for any customers or anyone other than the firm. This is playing with fire.

I recently bought tickets for the Iran - Egypt game for $295 each. We’ll be midfield upper deck, 7th row.

17 is unique.  Not an argumentative question - why is it gimmicky?

Just not a fan of island greens so I feel like it's too punitive when a small gust of wind or something doesnt reward a good shot. I absolutely adore the US Open, but I feel the same when greens get baked and can't hold shots. Don't mind high rough because not supposed to hit it there.

The PGA Championship has minimal juice compared to the other three majors. 4 out of 5 dentists and golf enthusiasts would rather watch The Players.

Agree it pales in comparison to other 3, dont think moving it to May helped. Personally disagree on Players though, as I think Sawgrass is overhyped and 17 is gimmicky.

But im old school and love the US open on tough tracks and the Open with lots of rough weather and carnage, and no what it has generally been in recent years, links golf with scores you see at the 3M Open or John Deere Classic.

  8. Would love to see the Twins sign Andrew McCutcheon just for some veteran leadership on this young team.

Cutch is a class act and I think he could impart a lot onto the next generation on hiw to be a professional and do things the right way.

Probably won't happen as I know he doesn't have much production left in the tank, but even over a short time could be a great influence.

Don't know much about the SD schools, but the North Dakota schools isn't really surprising. UND made some hard (and some unpopular) choices during both rounds of budget cuts in the last decade and in the process, right-sized a lot of things to prepare for future growth. NDSU opted to kick the can down the road and not do a whole lot of adapting. Enrollment trends seem to indicate UND made the correct moves.

Hopefully that continues and UND doesn't feel pressured into being a lemming going over the FBS cliff.

  10. Interesting that UND and USD rated as high capacity while the marker schools are high stress. Assume for Fargo U that only gets worse with vastly increased expenses and marginal revenue gains.

Twins lose another lead late in the game last night, and low and behold Varland has a .38 ERA for Toronto.....

He's making less than a million remind you.....

I think getting out of Minnesota was good for Varland. Not sure he does that with the Twins and pressure of being a home town guy. I think Twins are a little too hung up on drafting Minnesota guys.

I've probably been the biggest promotor of the super regional and until you had mentioned it earlier had not considered the role the NHL plays in my idea of using the NHL arenas near the college hockey hotbeds (MSP, Detroit, Boston, and maybe Denver).  But maybe the tournament concept of a super regional survives, but the location moves to secondary arenas, or a combination of NHL and secondary.  I like the idea of having 2 locations (instead of 4), and organizing the pods (not the seeding) as regionally as possible.   So, basically, if MSP is one of the super regional sites, and UND is a tournament lock, there should be pretty high confidence that the pod UND is in gets to play in MSP.

You dont need an NHL rink for super regionals. Plenty of AHL (and even some USHL) rinks would work, with seating of 10K plus.

Better promotional always helps, but dialing back ticket prices a little would help even more.

The MSU coach called the Big Ten "the most challenging conference" yesterday.

That conference hasn't won a single NCAA title. Does he seriously believe that?

I assumed he meant it's the conferece that challenges the most referee calls. 😆

Has there ever been a Frozen Four further west than Vegas? Also, since we will be playing in an NHL arena, there’s a good chance the ice will be nice 😊

There is no reason our non conference schedule has to be so lame. Get Bemidji, Mankato, and other randoms off the schedule. Or heck, maybe shorten up the conference schedule by a weekend or two (it does feel like the NCHC has a lot of conference games).

I’d have to check to be sure, but I the NCHC has fewer conference games than the WCHA did.

Wcha 28, nchc 24. Definitely fewer.

Yeah.  Made it to frozen four last year without him.  1st round exit this year.

Helps when you avoid NCHC teams in the bracket. Michigan St. Or Wisconsin will be in Frozen Four, but not sure if they are noticeably better than Penn St.

All that NIL money the Big Ten has been paying the last few years appears to finally be paying off.

    Haven't won anything yet.

Big ten hockey has had more bridesmaids than the wedding crashers.
