Titles are too difficult to win to be expected, but the excitement generated during the Hak era was unparalleled.  Seemingly every year could be our year.  Never missed an NCAA tourney (Brad missed three), 7 Frozen Four appearances in 11 years (Brad 1 in 8), plus all of the conference postseason success with Hakstol.  You could spend your money on St Paul or a regional knowing your team would be there and they'd show up.  You could buy Frozen Four tickets in advance knowing your team had a better chance of being there than not.  It was all very exciting even if they all ultimately ended up in disappointment.  What's exciting about UND hockey right now?

I don't kbow what kind of revisionist history this is but after 2006 I viewed the NCAAs with dread, knowing a collapse was coming. Making the Frozen Foir, but then getting crushed or now showing up isn't some badge of honor. Prior to the Hak years UND took titles at a 50/50 clip in the Frozen Four. Then it was a win in first semi in 2005 followed by 7 straight losses  The "laser focus" in 2011  had them so tight you could sense the loss coming even after UMDs win that afternoon should have created more momentum.  At least in 2016 UND got it done, taking out a hated rival in semis and crushing the top seed in the final. I'm as disappointed in the recent losses as anyone, but one and done is fickle, and we've been on the wrong side of late. We still have a more recent title than every blue blood outside of Denver.

At the end of the day Ludvig can't make a mistake on a simple play to make it 2-2 early in the 3rd. Just can't. Completely changed the direction of the game.

    Oh well......

That play was hugely deflating, but the 4th goal after failing ti keep a puck in the zone was the back breaker.

  3. More like to grab Northern Colorado if at thomas were willing for Summit League football. Denver might whine a little but they are a logical travel partner for other sports and it might reignite their football program.

Can't blame her ... she broke the wrong right story. And it PO'd some people (who'd broken their word).

She wasn't going to stay in ND much longer. Has the potential to be biggest sports media star to come out of the state since Lauren Shehadi.

Midco is moving to a new platform, more of a streaming content provider.  Think of ESPN+ concept.  They already have the Summit League BB streaming rights and I believe they are bidding on streaming rights for the Missouri Valley for football and NCHC for hockey.

That makes, the RSN model is pretty much dead and high school sports are tough as a money maker. I can see nchc.tv folding in, and would love to see the Dakota 4 muscle MVFC into it as well. I could see them making a play for CCHA and Northern Sun as well

BC, Denver, BU, Michigan are my picks for St. Paul.

    Ought to be interesting.

That's a lot of chalk for a tourney that rarely goes that way. I'm not sold on hockey east being that strong. BC seems potent but the tourney will be a new experience for them. Neither Wisconsin nor the defending Champs will be a pushover.

    My guess

    Providence

    BC Tech and Wisconsin QU

    Maryland heights

    MSU-Western and UND-Mich

    Sioux Falls

    Bu- RIT and Omaha Gophs

    Springfield

    DU UMass and Maine Cornell

Should have bought a power ball.  I'll go with Wisconsin and 3 NCHC schools to the X.

    Yeah, agreed.
Can the UND team that played DU please show up?

Hopefully it's also the UND that at one point wS least penalized team in country. Specifically teams are huge in NCAAs and unless we reinvent PP I'm concerned we have been figured out.

I wonder what the field would look like if “L16” (record in last sixteen games) was still a PWR factor.

Would much prefer the old TUC category to last 16. Last 16 too dependent on schedule strength. Record against winning teams should matter similar to Q1 and Q2 wins in basketball. Also not sure such a strict adherence to PWR is needed. It was originally a set if criteria that teams were compared by, now an actual ranking in and of itself. Even now RPI has a heavy thumb on scale and with the changes on OT in past decade bow sure how to even really treat OT games any more.

  10. My guess

    Providence

    BC Tech and Wisconsin QU

    Maryland heights

    MSU-Western and UND-Mich

    Sioux Falls

    Bu- RIT and Omaha Gophs

    Springfield

    DU UMass and Maine Cornell

Man, if BC doesn't steamroll thru the regional, I'd be shocked.
They are just crushing teams...really good teams too.  They only have two losses since Jan 1...and their last loss was in early Feb.  :0

I'd love to see them taken down, but they are sure playing excellent hockey and will be the heavy favorite for the title.

Which almost certainly means they will stub their toe in the tourney. Maintaining that peak is very difficult

I know the 2016 team got bounced in Frozen Faceoff as well but this showing by team today is demoralizing and don’t know how any fan can feel any optimism going into the NCAA tournament.

I'm hoping we end up in Providence, which has been pretty kind to us in the NCAAs.

So we went through the time and expense of moving up from Division 2 to Division 1 to have an "above average FCS program" in a division that is heavily watered down with really weak programs? You basically just said "Nattys don't matter". I don't tolerate that B.S. in the hockey threads and I don't tolerate it here, either. The FB boosters pushed hard for this Division I move 15 years ago. I don't think they did it to be "an above average FCS program". This entire athletic department is being run like a high school and I am sick and tired of it. Anyone who thinks this is how it should be done, please make your case.

The boosters may have pushed for the move but I haven't seen the monster donation that can help get over the hump. Not expecting a Ralph type outlay, but where is the backing. Even softball has gotten a new stadium from a single donor. Where is that support for football.

It's a tell: Even the mighty Huskers will have trouble competing in this new NIL/Alston world. So why not go to the aTm.

A little surprising is leaving the B1G for the SEC.

I wouldn't be surprised if B1G offers the Aggies as a shot across the bow at SEC. They may be interested in ditching UT again. Grab them and the golden domers and Big 10 supremacy is established. They then pick the carcasses of what's left (some ACC teams and a couple other SEC schools ans possibly Kansas) and a national college league is born.

Bergeron gone. No surprise. Bring back Gwoz!

The right guy could get things turned around in a hurry. No reason Miami has to be a perennial bottom feeder. They need someone with winning pedigree.

So now Western is firmly on the bubble after laying an egg tonight.  Guess we will see how far they fall.

They need BC to beat UMass. That's the crucial game. Quinny winning ECAC is big as well.
