  1. I was there.... crowd was disappointing as usual. The usual sea of empty seats were abound in the upper reaches and there were lots of empty seats scattered throughout. Behind the goals (supposed student sections) were especially embarrassing. Two male students, most of the the women's bb team and some players' girlfriends were about the extent of our rousing student sections. I know there's not much control over these things, but it seems that these big games are scheduled at inopportune times, i.e. most students are done with their final exams and are long gone. Oh well.... success will breed bigger attendance in the future, right?
  2. Rumor has it that Jones kept the score from the UND-Jacks game at Brookings up on the Betty scoreboard all week as a subtle reminder so the boys wouldn't forget.
  3. We don't need "typo police" on message boards. It's a lame and cheap crutch when one's argument lacks merit or a spiteful and childish rebuttal to point out a perceived shortcoming. Everyone makes mistakes; get over yourself. Now, with that said, glad to have you as part of the club!
  4. Got 3 Mac laptops in the house. Voted twice on each (Mozilla and Safari). I'm maxed out unless I go into work and hop from cubical to cubical and stuff the ballot that way!
  5. Only 64 votes and we break 1,000. Let's get the vote out Chicago machine style. Vote and vote often. We can't let a Towson (whatever that is) and Appy (we beat Michigan once) State beat the flagship of an entire state. C'mon, man! (Apologies to Herm Edwards, ESPN fame)
  6. Or we could easily go into 10 years of drought, and it will really seem not worth it (at the time).
  7. We seem to be closing in on the Towson coach for #2, but Appy State looks like they'll be tough to beat at the rate they're picking up votes.
  8. I just put it up on the UND Area Voices blog that appears on the front page of every Forum Communication newspaper Website for a few hours until it gets bumped down. I will relaunch it each time it gets bumped off. I have also alerted UND's Web marketing team to tap into other UND Web opportunities and UND-controlled social media! This what you will find on the Area voices blog right now or very soon: Vote now for UND’s Chris Mussman for FCS ‘Coach of the Year’ Posted on December 6, 2011 by und Come on, UND sports fans! Vote now for Chris Mussman for Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year in the Football Champion Series (FCS) category. Coach Mussman made it through the initial fan-voting and assessment process to make the Top 5. Let’s send the reigning Great West Football Conference champion coach out of 2011 with one more victory.

  10. CAT Country 100.3 FM in Grand Forks .. it's a Clear Channel station. I am listening to it online because I am in Fargo this weekend.
  11. Sucks here too. Oh well. I got radio on.
  12. http://www.nj.com/devils/index.ssf/2011/12/devils_travis_zajac_will_miss.html Good story that focuses a bunch on Zajak comeback and Parise's homecoming, plus his true feelings about "Pride on Ice": (Excerpt from Friday's nj.com) He was asked by a local TV questioner if he had a favorite local hockey player, perhaps a University of Minnesota Gophers player? Not a good question for a University of North Dakota player. "No Gophers. Come on," Parise said with a laugh. "I was always a big (Neal) Broten fan and (Mike) Modano fan. I was more watching the North Stars growing up than the Gophers. I kind of got more attached to that than college. But definitely no Gophers." When asked about the Gophers being ranked No. 1, Parise said: "That's when I stopped paying attention. UND always has a strong second half. They always seem to heat up at the right time heading into the playoffs."
  13. I always thought North Dakota missed the boat (or plane) decades ago by not building a regional airport between Mayville/Portland and Hillsboro, N.D. Just think, it would not be inconceivable for people to drive from Grand Forks, Fargo, Devils Lake, Jamestown, Wahpeton, Thief River, Crookston, Grafton and all points around those areas for more air service options and presumably cheaper fares. The Hillsboro area economy would have benefited greatly just as the rest of the region would have from better air service. Besides, you know what they say, Hillsboro is only one cup of coffee away from Grand Forks and Fargo!
  14. Sorry my last post was geared toward football, but I think it can stand for all common sports that we compete in.
  15. Beating NDSU because it is pee-your-pants-kind-of-funny to watch some of their hotheads squirm and explain why they care so much despite the fact "they've moved on." I have never denied it's a rivalry. I've never moved on from it. It's a fun rivalry with a lot of good SU backers on this board (yes, there are some Jackholes, but we have our share that like to rock the boat over on BV). Bottomline is GWC was started long ago as a transitional conference. It was needed. Now it's over. I think a win over SU would translate in a stronger recruiting position than a co-championship of a five-team transitional conference.
  16. No offense taken. In fact, I appreciate the insight on a place I have never been to. Sounds like DM is it all that locals say it's cracked up to be. LOL!
  17. Women played at Drake (Des Moines, Iowa). I don't know what the average attendance if for BB games at Drake. But, if UND would have played Drake at the Betty, I think the attendance numbers would have been less or comparable to the men's game against Montana at the Betty.
  18. Your point on preparedness is duly noted. But as far as your description of Des Moines as "mundane," I would have to say that "mundane" is a subjective and relative term. Maybe Des Moines and Iowa are mundane as compared to Minneapolis, Madison or Chicago and their respective states.... but it is twice the size of Fargo and the state of Iowa does have a slew of Division I institutions, including 2 that compete at the FBS level. So compared to Grand Forks (and I love Grand Forks), I think its hard to argue that it's a hole-in-the-wall town.
  19. Agreed. Home cooking is always nice, but as far as crowd atmosphere, attendance was about 800 people at WIU last night. Must have been a noisy 800 to throw the Mighty Herd off its game.
  20. ^^^^^^^This result makes our 16-2 run with 4 minutes to go in the 1st half even more impressive against that kind of "D" from WIU.
  21. Sounds like we can't put it in the ocean and they're hitting from everywhere.
  22. I think it's intentionally campy and non P.C. which is something I always applaud. Now if they didn't mean it to be those things, then, I think the marketing dept. needs to beef up its budget and hire new idea people.
  23. For those who are relatively new to this board, you can go to Wiki (on this site - see menu at top on home page) and click on 2012 FB Recruiting. You will see the list of kids that we have offered (and who else has offered), those who have committed to us, committed elsewhere and others we are looking at. I certainly am not going to tell you the list is perfect but it is updated whenever we learn anything new. (Courtesy of "UND Fan")
  24. Oregon wide receiver Taylor Walcott to play for the Griz. UND had offered. (Source: The Register-Guard.com in Eugene, Ore.) Walcott commits to play at Montana Marist senior wide receiver Taylor Walcott has made a verbal commitment to play football next season at Montana. Walcott could be catching passes from former Sheldon quarterback Jordan Johnson, who is a sophomore for the Grizzlies. Montana, coached by North Eugene graduate and former Oregon receivers coach Robin Pflugrad, plays Central Arkansas in the first round of the FCS playoffs on Saturday. “Montana is the place he thinks is best for him,” said George Walcott, Taylor’s father. “They have a great plan in place for him. He went for a recruiting trip a few weeks back and liked the place and liked the business school. He said it felt like the right place for him, he felt comfortable.” Walcott also had offers from Idaho, Eastern Washington, Portland State, and North Dakota. Walcott had 60 catches for 1,193 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior for the Spartans, who lost to Mountain View in the Class 5A semifinals last week. The 6-foot, 175-pounder had a touchdown catch in 11 of 12 games. Walcott played four years on the Spartans varsity and had 153 catches for 3,057 yards and 51 touchdowns in his career. Walcott is also a track star who has swept the 100- and 200-meters in each of his past two district meets. He is the defending Class 5A champion in the 100 at 10.84 seconds and was second in the 200 at 22.36.
