Northern Arizona PG has left the team. Looks like he was a pretty good player but may have some personality issues. Wonder if we'd have some interest......

Holy cow, at first when I saw your post, I thought it was Gabe Rogers, which would have been a ginormous loss for the Lumberjacks. Russell showed promise, though, and did drop 21 on us in that infamous game at The Betty last year in February. He only scored 7 when we went down to Flagstaff earlier in 2012-2013 season.

  2. Just got home. Few thoughts from this game:

1.) Officiating made it unwatchable. Bad calls in favor and against both teams. They literally didn't allow defense to be played. I am not a basketball wiz at all...but I generally can understand what is going on....not this game. This was not basketball. IMO, the style of officiating definitely benefited UND. I am not saying the refs helped UND, cause they didn't help anyone at all. I could understand if this was too teams playing physical...but it wasn't.

2.) NDSU is not as good as I thought they were. This team might make the dance...completely possible....that doesn't make them a good team...maybe they will be both a good team and a dance team by the time march rolls around. IDK! But I think they are significantly more hype than substance right now. Maybe that will change, maybe it won't.

1.) This team was not good from the free throw line.

2.) This team has made one three that I can think of in the 2 games I have watched(this one and the St. Mary's game).

3.) This team is not deep right now.

3.) UND hit shots tonight and our guys didn't. That is what it comes back to...UND has possibly the most annoying announcer I have ever heard....maybe its the same way in Fargo and I don't notice.

Would have been much more fun to watch if they hadn't called fouls every 20-30 seconds and let the teams actually play. Also, sign me up for the club that wants it to be a home-home every year. That said, this is been a weak atmosphere 4 years in a row...

Heard you loved the UND PA guy, too? Kinda how I feel at the BSA; only it's a lot harder to understand what's being said through the garble of the 1973 sound system at the BSA.

  3. Student tickets sold out yesterday :D

Where is the line of people waiting to call out the general public like they call out the students who don't get tickets to football?

Don't worry about public fan support per the tweet below. Kudos to the students for doing their part. Would be great if we could see this kind of fan support all around this season moving forward and beyond.

Don't plan on any walk-up tickets being available - less than 20 remain for rivalry clash with NDSU at The Betty at 5 pm #BigSkyMBB

  4. What conference will the officials be coming from?

    Should be a fun game.

If last year's game in Fargo is any indication, it will be a hodgepodge. Last year, it was Eric Curry (Big Sky, Mountain West), John Yorkovich (Summit, MAC), and Jeff Campbell (Summit, Missouri Valley).

  5. Our posts have to catch well in the lane and keep the ball off the floor (high percentage shots with soft touches and play strong off the glass if they miss). FU's quick hands and smothering D forced several turnovers last night right under the hoop against Western Michigan. Offensive rebounds off of misses will be huge for both teams on Sunday. Not enough respect being given to L.A. and Wright on here. They are studs. Felt is streaky, but if he is on, he is deadly from the perimeter. I was impressed with their Brown off the bench, too, last night against WMU.

    Free throws.

    Free throws.

    Free throws.

FU is as good as advertised.

UND is not as bad as assumed by many down south. They (fans) just don't know it yet.

  6. Too funny - Love your recruiting strategy. UND guys (coaches) under contract but are considered poison now? I thought I read somewhere you said these guys were coaching and recruiting STUDS!...

Definitely not by anyone who's been paying attention.

  7. My thoughts from last night going into Mad Town:

Huff and Anderson just being Huff and Anderson -- solid to exceptional.

Hooker made red-shirt decision hard for coaches. He showed last night what I saw in the scrimmage back in October. Kid is going to be a special player.

Nash really upped his game since I saw him in the scrimmage. Competition level aside, his athleticism is something that I did not see much of last year in the Big Sky.

Webb simply makes things miserable for the opposition with his defense and craftiness under the basket. I still get a ball in my stomach when he's at the line and when he attempts those awkward set shot three pointers. Sometimes those treys go in, though, and often at opportune times.

Antwi: solid bench minutes guy. Got to step it up against better teams, though.

Post play: I don't know about lumping Salmonson in with Calcaterra's mediocre to horrible play. Ryan, I think, didn't show his best last night. He's got a bigger upside than anyone else at the 5 spot (assuming Brekke is done). As for #33, I'm trying to weigh in my mind if he is about where Wilmer was ability-wise as a junior. Jury is still out for me on "Calc" and whether he'll improve with time.

Benton: I think this will be his break out year off the bench.

Hobaugh is a maniac on defense and appears to be able to shoot the rock from long range.

Blake Thomas has a lot of heart and works is butt off when he comes off the end of the bench.

With Brekke's status bleak to unknown, it's a bit of a consolation to know that we did not show everything last night, namely we still have Traylor at the 4/5 to factor into our season as well as another proven guard in Schuler. Both have shown flashes of brilliant play.

    Tyler: Wait until next year.

Stefan: Most likely wait until next year.

  8. As I recall, he got some time at point. I don't think he struggled to badly. Two things stood out to me about Hooker: (1) At 6-0, the kid has hops. He attempted a dunk and missed -- but not by much. He got over the rim. (2) He has a real knack for the assist and is clever with his dishes -- not reckless.

Also, the walk-ons surprisingly were not liabilities during their time on the court, especially Hobaugh. ( I think he was a walk-on transfer out of Houston Baptist.)

  9. All, no problem and my pleasure! First off SWsiouxMN's assessments were fair and spot on. I'm not good on crowd estimations, but there appeared to be more than 50 and less than 100.

I did NOT see Brekke anywhere from my vantage, and I don't know why.

I endorse SWsiouxMN's assessment on Salmonson. He was solid.
