  3. Thanks for he recruiting updates, Hambone! Much appreciated.
  4. For being such big rivals, you guys sure come to each other's defense a lot. Some vicious rivalry you have there.
  5. Wonder if he's following in his parents' footsteps and wants to go to a school with a great Petroleum Engineering Program. I heard that program was expecting around 300 students this fall, but now it's looking closer to 400.
  6. At 6'3", he's no "Midget" -- yet he is. Go DHS and welcome to the UND family! (from a proud a DHS alum )

    Fall Camp

I'm not a doctor and I don't pretend to play one on TV and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but I think your're right. It appears most of the issues are the result of young players learning how to practice at this level.

    Fall Camp

Add Simmons, Ferguson and Blackmon to the list of players on the sidelines in shorts. Join Cerriteno and Tank Harris. None seem to have serious injuries.

    Fall Camp

Tauberheim: I was worried when we finally had to say good-bye to Zeb. However, after watching Tauberheim kick FGs, I think we'll be in good hands -- or feet, if you will. I have not seen enough of him on kick-offs, so I can't comment there. Bakker: I'm always worried when a guy's football origins are out of Europe. I don't care if it's on an American Air Base in Germany; the fact of the matter is that the true American football culture is not engrained over there at all. American football here in the USA is second nature to most of us, like hockey in Canada and soccer everywhere else outside of North America. All that said: Bakker has got it. I don't know where he got it or how, but he plays smart and with great intensity. He looks big on the field -- bigger than I thought he'd be -- and he plays even bigger. Sound tackler, who wraps up and plays to the whistle. Carrothers: he's holding his own quite nicely against the other big boys in the trenches. He flies around and plays on the edge. He gives up a bit in the size department, comparatively speaking, but plays bigger; he plays the way we would want all of our DLs to play.

Those who have been pleasant surprises to me at practice, so far: Bakker Hinojosa Carrothers Sharp Tillman Edmunds Ferguson Ruhe Tauberheim Coyne

    Fall Camp

I would say he's fourth best out of four right now, but that's to be expected. He's got the tools but he looks a little overwhelmed right now with all the new stuff they're throwing at him everyday. His day will come.

    Fall Camp

He has been impressive in fall camp, so far. Very disciplined and workmanlike, like he's on a mission. I haven't seen him drop a pass that made it to his vicinity, and he's snagged some tough ones.

    Fall Camp

Be careful about one-day assessment on these guys. Some of the players who reportedly had really good outings today weren't looking the part, so to speak, during the first days of camp -- and vice versa.
  14. Thanks, bisoninnwmn. We don't take these "gets" for granted, given the stiff competition for high-end in-state recruits. That's a tribute to what's going on at SU. It'll make us both better

    Fall Camp

I feel like a roster creeper ..... Other than Slaight, who I am hearing now might have brought along with him a lot of off-the-field headaches along with his potential talent, I am no longer seeing Stetson Carr on the active roster any more. He impressed me a lot at the spring game. That said, it seems like the roster is being constantly updated, as there is a freshman DB listed that I have not heard of out of Lodi, Wis. -- Garrett Bollant (5-11, 175). Also still no official listing for KU transfer Jenkins-Moore, but I have no reason to doubt the validity of his transfer yet. Bollant's High School tape (mostly at running back): http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2865195/highlights/98094397
  16. Competition is a great motivator! Love it!
  17. I was wondering about a Walker/Cheatham combo at NT, and Hinojosa and Cummings on the ends, with Carrothers and Woodsmall waiting in the wings.
  18. I'm betting on Meehan, Barton and Boas. After that, anyone's guess.
  19. Heard he's not coming. Best of luck to him whatever his future holds. Wow, that's another hit at a position of need.
  20. So, I am looking at a FB roster that I printed off on July 11 that has Brendan Slaight (6-7. 318) listed on it, assigned #65. But today, when I click on the current roster online, he is no longer listed on the roster. Did something happen? Or am I reading too much into it?
  21. All I can say is I am sure glad that Fales and that WR Nunn are gone. The big threats that I can see on offense, as far as returning starters, are Winston (WR), Tucker (RB) and possibly that big Lawson guy at running back. They like to throw a lot to their running backs and use them effectively as check down receivers who give them lots of YAC. On defense it appears that their D line and secondary will be made up of veteran starters, however, their linebackers are relatively greener. Looks like they run a 4-3 defense. We compare favorably to them size-wise at most positions on D and O, though I am the first to admit that that size doesn't tell you squat about one's athleticism.
  22. SJSU is playing Navy on ESPNU now on Midco 320 in GF as part of its Top 25 games of 2013-14 countdown.
  23. Not trying to get hopes up .... but, as I said on the Sioux Football Insider blog, they also might get caught taking a peak at their next opponent after us -- @ Auburn. Enough for us to at least maybe make the score differential a bit less.
  24. I saw from another source that they were picked second to last out of 6 teams in their conference's subdivision pre-season poll. But we all know how much pre-season polls are worth. So take it with a huge block of salt.
  25. I would say 30 is a good accurate number. I like the camaraderie that everyone shows. They are working hard, getting in lots of reps but at the same time playing smart so as not to injure themselves or others.
