Last year, a St Paul Central kid committed to Augustana, then later committed to UND (without Lennon knowing of the prior commitment.) Lennon then withdrew the scholarship offer., and the kid went on to sign with Augie (but is no longer found on their roster). There are "unwritten" ethical rules that are followed, but anything goes, especially at the higher IA level. It's possible that when Mussman found out the kid was going to visit NDSU after the UND commitment, Mussman formally withdrew the offer out of principle.

An interesting debate ongoing in Sioux Falls: build a 14,000 seat arena (BB/Hockey) or an 18,000 seat dome (football). Why would SF want or need a domed football stadium when there are no tenants other than high school football teams? Possible answer: the leaders of this initiative are eyeing SDSU and/or USD football as tenants. Each school must have at leat a 15,000 seat home (and preferably 18,000) if one of them ever chose to go IA. SDSU's Coughlin needs to be rebuilt from scratch to be a legitmate IA, and USD's is way too small, and neither would likely afford a new football stadium themselves. http://argusleader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...8/1135/SPORTS05 Coliseum group loses founding member The remaining chairman (Dykhouse) is an SDSU booster.

It wasn't that post, its this one:

He has apparently pulled his UND verbal and has now committed to NDSU.

With Youmans and Little leaving after this season, it will be a major challenge for Jones to field a competitive team next year. We will likely need non-DI qualified JC transfers (another Beasley or two ) to sign before the end of the exploratory year: they'd get grandfathered in from DII.

Couldn't find a Canadian map, but the main lacrosse centers are eastern Ontario and the Vancouver area. It seems to be popular in Alberta and Quebec, and growing recently in Saskatchewan. Manitoba and the Maritime provinces don't seem to have much lacrosse, either box or outdoor. Lacrosse in Canada

Is UND recruiting Jordan Anderson, OL/DL 290 6'3", from Northern Freeze (Newfolden)? That seems to be implied by a Minnesota Prep poster. He was all-state Minnesota in 9-man.

No problem. Lakehead and Ryerson had not been widely publicized as being interested. Some time ago, I had speculated that Manitoba and Saskatchewan might go the NCAA route. But those schools are too Canadian-centric in their viewpoint. Lakehead and the possibility DI hockey might sense because it's so far from any other Canadian school - Mn-Duluth is the closest school - Thunder Bay needs a hockey team that the hockey-mad populace can follow - and needs the Canadian media attention. Ryerson in Toronto is overshadowed by other area schools in Toronto (U of Toronto), so an NCAA move would set it apart.

In 10 year from now, who knows, UND might have a $1 Billion endowment. After all, the five year goal is 500 million. Numbers like that and facilities that that could built with it are known to make Bison fan either sick, raving mad, or claim UND administrators are out of their minds.

MplsBison: You're giving your fans a bad name again. "About to build" refers to the indoor practice field, not necessarily the stadium. Congratulations on Mr Heimler's selection and hope his dreams are fulfilled at UND.

To my knowledge both Manitoba and Saskatchewan (as well as Winnipeg U, Brandon U, and Regina U etc) have no plans to move to the NCAA. They would not save nearly as much on travel as UBC and Simon Fraser, which would likely move to the DII Great Northwest Conference with Alaska, Washington, and Oregon teams for all their sports except hockey. (Simon Fraser does not have hockey.) Alberta would probably seek out the GNC also, as well as the WCHA with UBC. The other school that's most interesting though is Lakehead, which is in Thunder Bay. I'm sure Lakehead would love to get in the WCHA and the Northern Sun (but without football that might be tough). Ryerson is in Toronto, so they'd probably want in the ECAC, Atlantic Hockey or maybe even the CHA. St. Clair originally wanted into DIII to be part of a Michigan league, but if the went DII, perhaps the GLIAC for all sports and the CHA. NCAA Grass May not be so Kelly Green http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_William_Gardens The largest hockey arena in Thunder Bay is probably not up to WCHA standards, but it appears the city of Thunder Bay is considering a new arena.

In the case of baseball, that probably isn't true: In the Summit, IUPUI and UMKC do not sponsor baseball. The Summit doesn't require baseball. The Big Sky does not sponsor baseball. In the Horizon, UW-Green Bay and Loyola do not sponsor baseball. In the WAC, Idaho, Utah State, and Boise State do not sponsor baseball. In the MWC, Colorado State and Wyoming do not sponsor baseball. In the MVC: Drake Big Ten: Wisconsin Big Twelve: Iowa State and Colorado Big East: Providence, DePaul, Marquette, and Syracuse The MAC is one of the few northern conferences that requires baseball as a core sport. If we were attempting to obtain membership in a southern conference, baseball would likely be a requirement. With UND's current baseball facilities and spring weather conditions, the argument can be made that baseball would actually be a hindrance to conference acceptance. (Why travel to GF if a three-game weekend might be cancelled for weather reasons or if your pitcher blows out his arm in cold, wet conditions)? Now if baseball alumni and others who care step up to the plate and make facility and scholarship upgrades, that perception could change. NDSU received membership into the Summit without offering a number of it's sports, including men's soccer, men's & women's swimming, and men's & women's tennis. If NDSU had a great swimming facility instead of Newman field/baseball program, the Summit would likely still have accepted them.

College lacrosse is much like college hockey in that all-sports conference alignments are not typical. For example, the Big East does not sponsor men's lacrosse, largely because Syracuse rejects the idea. But that appears to be changing: Syracuse now favors Big East lacrosse If Big East lax happens, then the Great Western lacrosse league would likely lose two members: Notre Dame to the Big East and Quinnipiac to the ECAC or MAAC. Great Western Lacrosse would be down to five members: Ohio State, Bellarmine, Detroit, Denver, and Air Force, and would desperately need a sixth team. Who could be a candidate? In women's lacrosse, Fresno State joins California, Oregon, UC-Davis, St. Mary's, Stanford, Boise St (also starting), and Denver as western teams. There are no DI men's teams west of Denver, in spite of lacrosse's growth.

The Massey Ratings for women's basketball would seem to agree that the North Central Regio is tough. Concordia-SP and USD could give UND a run for hosting the regional. NCAA approves program to allow Canadian schools in DII If both UBC and Alberta join DII, they should be eligible to move up their hockey programs to DI in 2011, when the NCAA DI moratorium ends. In 2011, expect them to ask for entry into the WCHA.
