While I agree that a Valpo or Drake game looks better on paper, I don't think Sioux fans are so gullible to fall so much for pseudo-DI hype to inflate our egos. Few Sioux fans would be excited about Valpo, nor would NDSU fans anymore. On paper it might look better, but not on the field. This is what the Minot Daily columnist had to say about the NDSU-Valpo hype:

Forgive me for inserting McFeely into this thread, but he raised an interesting question:

Is there any internet confirmation of this 4.37 time? This site lists his time as 4.66, although it is more than a year old. 4.37 vs Darren McFadden's 4.33 at NFL combine

Hence, an expanding role for Josh Morton?

Compared to some of the earlier candidates, this final group looks strong. With Wyoming's Kelley in as President, can't believe Barbara Burke would consider it if she didn't believe she had a strong chance. Also, UCF's Leonard seeminglly accomplished a lot with the new football and basketball complexes: his experience at Boise State has to be considered a plus . Stony Brook's Schlickmann also seems to have strong credentials going back to his Yale days. SUNY-Stony Brook had some rough sailing in their early days of the DI transition Stony Brook's Athletics: Moving On , which seems to have been righted after Schlickmann moved over from Yale. Tom Sadler as well as a number of other candidates appear to have a lot of experience running larger venues like the Ralph and the Alerus. At least four of the candidates could be considering UND as a stop for a higher level AD position (which is not necessarily negative): UND would likely be Faison's last stop and possibly Burke's.

DU's lacrosse roster has surprisingly few recruits from the eastern seaboard (seven). DU only lost to lax power UNC (not Northern Colorado ) by one. I wonder what a theoretical UND-UNC matchup in the Alerus could draw?

The NIT had been one of Miles' goals, but the NIT's lawsuit against the NCAA (and the NCAA's settlement, buying out the NIT for 56.5 milllion) altered Miles' hopes. Wiki:

Actually, the men''s NIT is now owned by the NCAA, which woud not invite non-eligible schools to any of it's tournaments. There is a new post-season tournament being formed the College Basketball Invitational, which UND would be eligible for. The women's NIT is not owned by the NCAA, so UND would be eligible for that. edit: Bin beat me.

From just a numbers standpoint, I can never understand the point of bringing up ND vs Minn HS hockey. Minnesota has 84 Class A hockey teams and 71 AA teams, about nine times the ND number. The Class A ranks in Minnesota have enrollments that go all the way to nearly 1500 students (like Bemidji, Alexandria, St Cloud Apollo, etc. etc). In North Dakota, the only schools that would automatically be Minnesota AA would be Minot, Fargo South, West Fargo, and possibly Bismarck, which would make less than 1/2 a AA section in Minnesota. The other 14 teams would make barely more than one Class A section in Minnesota. Furthermore, than are a lot of very weak teams in MN HS hockey: Wahpeton couldn't beat a single ND team (including even the west's last place Hazen-Beulah), but yet beat four Minnesota teams (Walker, Morris, Red Lake Falls, and Bagley). Yet no one discusses the weak state of Minnesota hockey HS predominant in midstate, southern MN, Minneapolis, St. Paul, and older/poorer suburbs. Strong HS programs for small Minnesota schools like Roseau, Warroad, East Grand Forks, and Crookston are an exception, not a rule. For the population of ND relative to MN, ND HS hockey does quite well in producing talent and competitive teams.

With the Northern Sun going to 14 teams, they will play 10 conference and at most one non-conference games. The NSIC seem to be viewing the Aug 28-30 weekend as the non-conference weekend (See Bemdiji schedule). Since UND already has signed TxAM-Kingsville for opening weekend, St Cloud St somehow needs to deviate from the typical NSIC schedule and play an NSIC team opening weekend and then a non-conference team later in order fit UND in their schedule. Central Washington now has an open date Sept 6th,, as their home-home with Chadron State didn't work out. Perhaps UND can schedule something out with the Wildcats again.

I'd really like to understand Grom's rationale for cancelling the Poly game. If Poly chooses to play two transitioning teams, that's Poly's choice. As far as determining a conference champion with differring amounts of games played, there are creative ways to deal with the issue. Over the years, a number of conferences (like CUSA and the SunBelt) have desiginated certain non-conference games as conference games so that every school plays equal numbers of "conference" games. If a IA conference can deal with it, certainly Grom could have been a little creative. Non-scholarship IAA teams like Butler and San Diego would have been ideal to complete the home schedule.

One year ago or so: Western Kentucky jumps football from IAA to IA. At the time, they stated no effects on Titile IX or other sports. This past week a change in opinion: [url=http://www.wkusports.com/news.cgi?article=6010&sports=8]WKU drops men

The Sisseton-Wahpeton reservation straddles the ND-SD line in far SE ND, but the vast majority is in SD, as well as its headquarters. The Standing Rock reservation has more land in SD, but is headquartered in ND.

There are a whole list of requirements for a President, but some of the bigger ones for UND are: Research - Academics - Medicine - Liberal Arts- Athletics -Enrollment Kelley seemed to meet the hurdles on all the above and his Cal-Berkley PhD carries high perceptions in academic circles. Long probably came closest to matching the above. Smith, Elbert, and Johnson could have give an outsider a mistaken perception that UND is too interbred. Hopefully Smith and Elbert stay.

If (or when : ) this retractable roof really happens, could you imagine the reaction in certain quarters? There would be so many bricks sh*t by NDSU fans that they could appropriately brick their BSA.

CC and UND both have played 20 games, so CC will have a chance to make up the points. DU has played 4 less games than either UND or CC. The max points for each team is: CC 47 UND 42 DU 48 so CC needs to stumble more and UND needs to keep its sweep streak going (especially against Denver). Most importantly, the top three have separated themselves from the rest of the field. No #4 vs # 5 play-in game for the Sioux unless there's a major breakdown.

That's not what was implied. If a student makes a commitment to an offer, and then continues to make other visits, that's an integrity issue. A player receiving an offer, makes no firm commitment and continues other school visits is perfectly legit.
