  1. Sicatoka, The "FargoArena" only needs a vote if taxpayer $$'s are used. The fact that the 1/2 percent FargoDome sales tax is no longer collected may help a vote now (or a couple years down the road). Here's a little about the status of the possible hockey/basketball arena:
  2. Sicatoka, What facility issues does NDSU need to work on? The BSA is the only one I know of, but a major renovation is planned. The Fargodome feature in The forum stated that a joint Basketball/Hockey expansion could still be in the works if a primary tenant (NDSU) wants it.
  3. lawkota, I forgot Ohio State had BB and Hockey in the Schottenstein. I thought women's volleyball ran into the BB season, but it doesn't. The only scheduling problem might arise if REASC wanted to host the volleyball regional or elite eight, as they are held the last week of Nov. and first week of Dec. It could be done, I just wouldn't want to draw up the schedule.
  4. Bison_Kent, UND needed a new basketball facility. It was the consensus of UND fans I know that the Hyslop was in worse condition than the Bison Sports Arena, which will be receiving a major renovation. Does this quote raise any eyebrows for Sioux fans?: I would think "eliminate" would be a better choice of words. If UND moves to DI in the future, would a DI conference be as accommodating as the NCC? November and December could be very busy months for REA and REASC with all four sports possibly vying for the use of two floors (ice or wood, as the case may be ).
  5. star2city, That's only one scenario you stated out of thousands of possibilities. It's probably fairly useless to contact the Mid-Con until they have a new commish. There was a thread about this on one of the conference realignment forums. If one reads the complete bylaw, Troy State and four Sunbelt teams would be the only ones in trouble. The Sunbelt has added Utah State and Troy State may still become a member. If the majority of a conference passes the criteria, the whole conference passes the criteria. The influx of IA to IAA will not be nearly as much as first speculated.
  6. Hmmmm....... Mid-Continent possible D-I match for NDSU and Mid-Con accepted Centenary quickly
  7. IPFW- already rejected by the Mid-Cont. for membership. They haven't done anything to improve their program. A significant drop in the RPI would result. Texas duo- might be good for baseball, but definitely not for BB. Pan Am's BB record is 375-1367, not many winning season's there. Pan AM probably could beat IFPW, which is another knock against them. A significant drop in the RPI would result. Denver is supposedly more than content in the Sunbelt. Utah Valley State-who knows, but SUU is rumored to be looking for a western conference, so they aren't the only team playing two time zones away anymore. There will be a lot of conference shuffling in DI conferences over the next few years.
  8. It looks like there will be four more years of Bison/Sioux football. The contract will be for four seasons, with a fifth year available if there is a scheduling conflict and one of the games has to be made up. There will be a $15,000 penalty if one of the schools opt out for a non-scheduling conflict.
  9. Wasn't the Mid-cont. described as a "worst possible conference" earlier on this board? There has been talk that Valpo is looking to leave the Mid-cont. leaving the conference with only eight teams. With most DI conferences looking to move to twelve teams, UNC and Denver would only bring the total up to ten. I wonder if there are any other travel partners looking for a conference? If the Mid-cont. moves to twelve teams, one of the biggest arguments about it, namely geographic disparity, could be resolved. The formation of two divisions would reduce travel costs significantly.
  10. I don't believe that SDSU needs a conference membership to satisfy the BOR. It was stated that they need a "conference affiliation", which could mean just about anything. If a conference decides to help schedule non-conf. games with SDSU, that might be considered a conference affiliation. Some Big Sky teams have already agreed to help out NDSU, so something similar might be all SDSU needs.
  11. MinnesotaNorthStar, UND actually has 11 NC's versus NDSU's 20. I doubt you'll see much of Rodgers unless UND is playing Bemidji State. I think he transferred there. Mike Sheppard (former OLB) has moved to the SS spot, so Rodgers would have seen little playing time even if he was still on the team.

    The Rivalry

I like this one: "The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value." ~Thomas Paine

    The Rivalry

Yup, that was me . SSS (Siouxrock Stupidity Syndrome) was at an all-time high. I could not comprehend how anybody could be that ignorant, and jokingly accused Tony of assuming a comic relief alter ego (Siouxrock) to stir up contoversy on the board.
  14. Sorry if this is getting more off-topic Germans only produce two good things: cars and firearms (okay, also beer ) I have heard this topic argued up and down in gyms before, but the statistics only support one side: LINK A lot of guys (trainers included) think "more is better" when it comes to weighlifting, and this leads to overtraining and increased injuries.

    The Rivalry

I thought this was answered in the program for the 2001 D2 football national championship game.

    The Rivalry

That would have been 100% fair IF it had stated that ALL Divison I athletics in the state cannot use state funds.
  17. star2city, Thanks for the breakdown on the numbers. I think the attendance numbers are a little high for the third and fourth years, though. If USD could pull off those numbers, it would be a major accomplishment. (not to say it couldn't be done, just with a lot of hard work and promoting) Let it be known that DI BB receives money from the tourney, and DIAA FB receives money from the BCS. Not a lot, but more than DII BB and FB receives (none).
  18. 96.3% of statistics are made up on the spot. Here's a few questions: How much does it take to run a decent hockey program with an arena lease?[ Isn't UND's men's hockey budget 1.9 M without an arena lease?] Do the above numbers include the extra scholarships and expenses USD would incur for women's programs? Would less than 5,000 for average attendance make a hockey team financially self-sufficient? Wouldn't some Stampede fans travel to away games, thereby diminishing the fan base? Would the Stampede and other local games cause scheduling problems and conflicts for USD hockey? Would USD be able to collect a decent ticket price with other hockey teams in Sioux Falls?

jimdahl, Three of the four schools are moving up. Was NDSU holding their breath for one more school? I do admit, four NCC schools would have been better. I never denied that NDSU was hoping for more NCC school(s) to move up, I was just saying that it was only part of the reason for the extra year.

    The Rivalry

AND to provide the student athletes more time to decide if they wanted to be in a postseason ineliglible program. It may have been a harsh reality to some student athletes if the administration just proclaimed, "No playoffs next year! We're going DI. If you don't like it, you have two weeks to transfer." I don't think NDSU was holding their breath for anyone to make the decision, except maybe SDSU. When SDSU pitched the idea of the NCC moving to DI, the only other school receptive to the idea was NDSU.

    Future

I think Ross Brennan might be one of the D line guys that quit. He was listed in the Herald spring game wrapup as "isn't in school".
  22. Here's a nice article about the financial status of the SD schools-STORY HERE I would feel sorry for the USD student-athletes that would have two hours of driving for practice . I'm sure they would have a busy schedule wihout having to drive that much. Would a Stampede average attendance of under 5,000 be able to sustain enough interest for another hockey team? How many people can their arena hold?
  23. What happened to Ross Brennan? He's listed in the Herald article as "isn't in school". Will this create a depth problem at the NG spot?
  24. All those lovely words from a Brit, no less. I guess we should all pack up from this wasteland known as North Dakota and move to the greener pastures of Great Brittain. There we can enjoy the rain, cloudy days, bland food, overpopulation, drab clothing, industrial pollution, mad cow disease, and poor oral hygeine . Sounds like an improvement. This is just another example of selective media sensationalism. This was worse than the NDSU/UND women's BB feature.
