  1. What is the consensus of Myron Allen leaving UND, even though he was offered a full scholarship without BB? I haven't seen anyone comment on that yet.
  2. For those that haven't seen it yet, it looks like there will be a vote to reduce scholarships next year in D2. 2003 NCAA D2 legislation Proposal 39 :Resolution -- Financial Aid -- Maximum Institutional Grant-in-Aid Limitations Approved. Looks like tough times may lay ahead in D2
  3. [rhetorical question]Why did UND change it's mascot? [/rhetorical question] Was it to honor the Sioux warriors, or was it to be more "intimidating" to NDSU? Let's see, farmers kill flickertails, and bison trample flickertails. There wasn't much motivation for NDSU to have a name change due to a rival. Who's Marcia, again? ScottM, Bison is the scientific species name for an animal, but the term buffalo could be protested by PETA. If UND changed it's name to the "Fighting Homo Sapiens", there probably wouldn't be much to protest. btw- isn't pink and green the color of a pansy?
  4. Throw empty whiskey bottles at him. It worked for us .
  5. Star2City, Entzion was also an assistant AD at UND, what's your take? Entzion denied touching the officer. With no witnesses besides the two individuals, it's a possibility that the officer just didn't like NDSU. The course of action was appropriate. This was a scandal for NDSU, and I've moved on. You should too. I thought this forum was concerned about UND and DI, not NDSU history. Let's get back to the topic at hand, and quit side-stepping. Definition 1-A publicized incident that brings about disgrace or offends the moral sensibilities of society: a drug scandal that forced the mayor's resignation. Looks like the first scenario is met. Notice the 'or' and lack of the term 'and'; thus, requiring only one scenario to be met. Definition 2-A person, thing, or circumstance that causes or ought to cause disgrace or outrage: a politician whose dishonesty is a scandal; considered the housing shortage a scandal. Damage to reputation or character caused by public disclosure of immoral or grossly improper behavior; disgrace. Looks like outrage is not necessarily a criteria. I guess this definition fits, as well. Actually, if one looks outside the confines of UND, some schools may have been outraged by a loss to a school with an "ineligible" player. I seem to remember a lot of UND fans displaying "outrage" for a certain UNC QB. Definition 3-Damage to reputation or character caused by public disclosure of immoral or grossly improper behavior; disgrace. Talk that is damaging to one's character; malicious gossip Immoral, yes. Grossly improper, in the sense of grossly as total or complete, yes. If it's not grossly improper, I guess all the NCAA rules and regulations should just be thrown out the window. typing positives about UND: 1) The 2001 UND FB team was a group of good football players that excelled at playing as a team. Definitely deserved the NC that they received. 2) Englestad Arena- Do I need to elaborate? 3) Dale Lennon's coaching 4) the tradition of the hockey program Are you happy now?
  6. As a Caucasian, I find the term "Native American" to be racist. Has anybody else heard of the evidence that Caucasians were inhabitated in North America thousands of years before the American Indians?
  7. RD17, How did that conflict with being a Bison fan first and foremost? Why are you so concerned about the Big Sky? UND has stated that they are not pursuing DI at this time. Why does the DIAA topic have a separate forum? Why are UND fans keeping tabs of something that NDSU is doing? Could it be because of something called a rivalry?
  8. Wouldn't the "proper" reasoning for the name change be "to honor the heritage of the Sioux warriors"? If that's the "true reasoning", maybe NDSU should change their mascot to the "Fighting Whities". The logo could be a white man with a rifle pointed out of a covered wagon.
  9. Jim, I still believe that hockey has not caught on in Fargo. A semi-pro team couldn't stay afloat, and now the ice sheets at the Metro Rec Center will become indoor soccer fields year round. Even with the influx of UND grads, there isn't a large enough fan base. There seems to be a boundary where hockey is popular (Highway 2). When I was at Fargo South(class of '92), hockey was at the bottom of the totem pole, and I doubt it has changed.
  10. star2city, Do you know how many scholarships UNK currently fields? If it's not currently the max, objective B is open to interpretation. Let's take Winona as an example. They may want to up their FB scholarships to 20, currently at 15 or 16. This would still coincide with the rest of the NSIC wanting to reduce scholarships for D2, but would be an increase for that particular institution.
  11. RD17, Hey, I've been to 3 hockey games this year(St. Cloud X2, Mankato), so don't discount me, yet. Billeter did build a good program with juco's, but needed a lot of them to get a handfull of good players. I just found a little irony in the UND "scandals only happen in DI" talk.
  12. Thanks, I guess when Tom Billeter was coaching a successful Bison program he recruited a "couple" juco players. None of them had played semi-pro BB, though Please, don't be so ignorant to dismiss the possibility of "easy-A's" at UND.
  13. Here's a couple links that show a "Myron Allen" with the FM Beez. FM Beez Roster "Myron Allen" Bio "Myron Allen" released from FM BeezLook in the left column- transactions, BB, IBA, FM Beez. Looks like "he" was released from the team. It looks like he has an extra year of college BB, as well. '98-99 with Trinity CC, which he may have red-shirted, but I don't see too many CC's doing that. Looks like there is a Trinity CC in Texas(Myron's home state), Shawn Kemp even went there. Shawn Kemp's SchoolShawn went there because his grades weren't good enough to get into any other school. I wonder if this reflects anything about all the "scholar" athletes at UND. Are there really that many more "scholar" athletes at UND, from the same recruiting area as many other schools? Or are classes easier, or are AD-induced "grade-inflation" practices common?
  14. star2city, It has been stated by the Mankato coaching staff that it was only one or two fans that yelled the racial slurs. I can't speak for all Bison fans, but most of us absolutely do not condone the behavior that this fan(s) displayed. It has been discussed on the Bison Boards, and nobody condoned that act of ignorance. I don't feel that the rest of the fans need to apologize for the stupidity of one or two people. Using your logic, all UND fans should apologize to all veterans and their families, because of the stupid remarks made by a couple UND fans during the presentation of the colors at the Fargodome.
  15. star2city, Holley may have been sportmanlike at UNC, but at the NDSU game he was not. That's why he received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for running onto the field and getting in the face of the officials. He also received a warning for running onto the field on another occasion during the game. A Mankato player received two unsportsmanlike conducts and was ejected from the game. If that's the definition of a "sportmanlike" coach, I better buy a new dictionary. The "fans", actually only one or two, were not students, btw.
  16. Dahlens bypass Sioux, select Bison By Jeff Kolpack jkolpack@forumcomm.com The Forum - 10/23/2002 Their father, Andy, was a standout football player at the University of North Dakota. Their brother, Tyler, is a freshman Sioux linebacker. Twins Kayla and Katie Dahlen generally grew up in a UND environment. So their Tuesday announcement that they will sign women
  17. Jim, The consensus of the conferences NDSU was talking to was that they will ABSOLUTELY NOT ALLOW A SCHOOL TO JOIN that is not a D1 school already. They all have been burned by schools that said they were going D1, and then backed out. This causes the conferences huge problems with scheduling. If UND goes D1 down the road, I highly doubt they will be allowed into a conference until they have both feet in the D1 pool.
  18. tnt, Maybe you should consider decaf in the morning. Since you're new, I'll fill you in. I AM A FAN OF NORTH DAKOTA SPORTS. Yes, I am a Bison fan first and foremost, but in the absence of NDSU, I cheer and am a fan of UND. Remember that this is called a DISCUSSION BOARD. Without a differing opinion, it would not be a discussion, but more like clapping with one hand. I forgot the fact that NDSU had a crystal ball when making the D1 decision, and knew that football and VB would not be having a good year. I guess last year's one national championship and two national runner-ups are the signs of an athletic program in the dumps. D1 Bonanza? Seeing as how you must frequent this sort of restaurant, we'll use it as an example. D1 hockey is the over-tenderized, insipid steak you get there. D1 is the whole menu. UND is far from having a "Bonanza", but it does have one course.
  19. I didn't hear any racial slurs, just a "Get a haircut" chant directed at #55, who had a rather large ponytail sticking out of the back of his helmet. I guess there was a "2's a fa**ot" chant, but that was only during warmups, and that is not racial. I think the Mankato coach is just getting fed up. His lack of discipline showed after Mankato blocked a NDSU punt and recovered it in the endzone. The player with the TD, number 18 I believe, pointed up at one of the video boards which he was on, kept dancing and pointing until the flag was thrown. Taunting. Mr. Mankato coach then proceeded to piss and moan on the field until another flag was thrown. His team was now forced into a 50 yard extra point attempt. Granted this TD in the third quarter only brought the score to 30-13, but it could have been a momentum shift, and the coach's personal lack of discipline and from his players shot themselves in the foot. I'm sure the supposed yelling of racial slurs caused the Mavs to lose this game. He is just looking for a scapegoat to divert attention away from yet another loss.
  20. Now that's stretching for something to protest about.
  21. The only problem I have with the Sioux nickname is the double standard that appears when a negative comment is made about it. When a fan from one of UND's opponents yells "Sue (purposely misspelled to not offend anyone) suck!", it's made into a big deal about offending the Sioux heritage. Why doesn't anyone get offended when UND has a losing season, isn't that offending Sioux heritage? Why can UND fans say "(insert team mascot here) suck!" without any uproar of offending (insert team mascot here). Why doesn't UND have any Native American sounding fight songs? Florida State and Illinois do. It seems that would help display admiration and embrace the culture of the chosen mascot. Goon, On the topic of nationalism, real nice display of it by the UND fans at the Fargodome on saturday. Anybody screaming "Bison suck" and "Go Sioux" during the presentation of our national colors should be dropped in the middle of Iraq with a sign that says "Iraq sucks". That was the greatest display of disrespect to the men and women that sacrficed their lives, to preserve all that we hold sacred that I have ever witnessed. I guess they were just showing off the true colors of UND, green and commie pink.
