  1. RD17, I hear your point. I also think the DII SSI should differentiate between an 0-11 and an 11-0 I-AA opponent from a qualifying (or even non-qualifying) conference. McNeese and Elon are not the same opponent, and should not be calculated as if they are. I think the DII SSI will be "fine-tuned" within the next couple of years. After all, the school that pushed the new SSI wasn't helped by it this year (CMSU, for those that didn't know).
  2. He is the voice of Fighting Sioux football
  3. RD17, Only eight conferences are allowed autobids in I-AA. The rest have to be at-large teams. That's why the Big South does not have an autobid- I-AA Playoffs, The Short Version. The Big South also only has five members, and I believe a conference has to have eight members minimum to be considered for an autobid. DaveK, The voice of Fighting Sioux football calls it the Bison/Sioux game on his left wing talk show (which allows all viewpionts), so that has to be the official version.
  4. I would be more worried about UNA. They may have forgot how to count to 36 (scholarships) again. They're undefeated, and handed Valdosta their only loss.
  5. I'm pretty sure Bentley is non-scholarship. Don Hansen lists them in the DII mid-major poll-http://www.donhansen.com/polls/ncaaiimid.php
  6. UND92,96 NDSU attendance typically drops at the end of the year, even when the playoffs are in the picture. In 2000 attendance was only 9,500 vs. UNC and 8,000 vs. Morningside. Hunting season seems to take a lot out of the football attendance.
  7. Too bad the committee doesn't look at statements. I think NDSU made a statement by beating up the NSIC co-champ (who actually beat Winona). I heard the CMSU SID on the radio state that at least three MIAA teams should be in the playoffs. He also stated the NC will probably be from the MIAA. He sure is befitting of his school's mascot
  8. Does anyone know if Illinois will be using their logo next year? I could heard this story on the radio yesterday, but I thought they said Chief Illiniwek stays, the name stays, but Illinois will no longer use the Indian head logo for athletics next year.
  9. Sicatoka, The biggest reason why SCSU won is because they scored more points. NDSU had opportunities (not having a punt blocked would have helped), but SCSU capitalized on more of their opportunities. That's the way football goes, whoever has the most points wins, and last week that was SCSU.
  10. *puts flame-retardant suit on* In defense of those that questioned the officiating at the NDSU/SCSU game, most Bison fans(myself included) concluded that it had no impact to the outcome of the game. NDSU had their opportunities to win (missed extra point, dropped pass in OT, etc.). I didn't comment about it until I had the opportunity to watch the video repeatedly after the game. The officating crew was routinely making bad calls or no calls on simple calls that are their primary responsiblities, i.e. there were three SCSU kickoffs where the player just to the right of the kicker was three yards past the ball when the ball was kicked, two plays where the DE clearly had his hand past the nose of the ball(it was on a line, so it was obvious),and the list goes on and on. I could care less about subjective penalties such as holding and pass interference, as I felt they called those well and were consistent (including the last play of OT)The black and white penalties, however, were a different story. When officials reach for their flags, but then look at the other officials and don't throw it, something's not right . There wasn't consistency in the calls. The WDAY crew, who are known as one of the more objective broadcast crews, even commented on the poor performance of the officials. Phil Hanson, who is an official, even said they weren't doing a good job. My problem with the officials was not that they had an impact on the game, but rather that they did a very poor job. They should be reviewed at a minimum, and if they are found to have done as poor a job as I believe, they should face disciplinary action. To have them botch up a playoff game and possibly have an impact on the outcome of the game would be an atrocity. Conclusion(because I was longwinded ): 1) The reason that NDSU lost was because SCSU scored more points. 2)The officials did not perform their jobs very well at the game. Two separate events, neither one is related to the other.
  11. I never said the only show in MN was good!
  12. Northern Iowa moved up in 1981. DI athletics wasn't quite the big business it is now. I'm not saying it's impossible for the other MN schools or UNO to move up. It will be more difficult for them to get the support with a juggernaut in their states that has a lot of support in key areas. A couple of UNO fans have stated that the Nebraska BOR is essentially controlled by Cornhusker alumni. Both Minnesota and Nebraska want to be the only show in their states.
  13. I think anybody else besides UND will have a huge uphill battle to move to DI. UNO has to get through the BOR in Nebraska, which is filled with Cornhusker alums. They don't want anybody competing for attention in Omaha. They're quite content on UNO being the little other school. The MN schools face the same issue with old Goldy. USD currently has to get back on track to be competitive in DII. Augie-really doubt it. They need more support for their progams first.
  14. Attendance typically drops off for the last couple of NCC games due to people shooting at animals. I would guesstimate that nearly half of the crowd at Selke this weekend were Bison fans.
  15. They did. USD even was in favor of it. Somebody else was not.
  16. Brent, The theory about Bohl at Nebraska had already been brought up when he was just a coaching finalist. The fact of the matter is when the King of the Blackshirts says the defensive problems were not Bohl's fault, they probably are not. The offense was proven to have fallen farther than the defense previously, and a defense cannot do well if it's on the field most of the day. star2city, Must be the holidays. I think that's the first nice thing you've said about Fargo or NDSU, unless I'm missing a heavy dose of sarcasm.
  17. Brent_Bobyck, Once again, please read what is written and comprehend it. I was using UND's VB team as a parallel. They were on the outside looking in for the playoff selection and lost this weekend. The coach, players, and the NEWS RELEASE (that's what I stated) were upbeat about the loss. They didn't proclaim, "We lost and have no chance for the playoffs. We're not a good team." btw- Charlie McBride stated that Bohl was the scapegoat for Solich. The Husker offense has dropped off more than the defense in the last years. If an offense can't stay on the field, the defense will wear out. Kinda strange that Solich is no longer calling offensive plays and the defense is still not doing well.
  18. Holy taking quotes out of context Batman! Here's the actual quote:
  19. CRR, In my post that you quoted I admitted that I was joking earlier.
  20. If the turf at the Alerus is stored in a "pit" at the end of the Alerus(I think it is), it's a pretty quick conversion. I talked to the staff at the Fargodome and they said it takes about 30-45 minutes to install the turf, as opposed to 4-6 hours for the previous surface. The biggest hurdle would probably be the setting up and tearing down of the concert equipment. I'm not a roadie, and never have been, but I think it takes the better part of a day to setup. Have 'em cancel the show and hand out free CD's to everyone that bought a ticket
  21. Seeing as how most of those are last year's stats, I'll post NDSU's football #2 (might be #1 this year) women's Vball #5 men's Bball #7 women's Bball #1 softball #2 baseball #7 Teflon?
  22. Not to turn this into a turf thread, but this is somewhat revealing from the FieldTurf site:
  23. Yup, I see it. What does it mean, other than Michigan State could beat UND? If you're stating that the Globetrotters competitive team is a good DI all star team, I knew that. I was just having fun with the fact that 90% of the UND fans were probably expecting buckets of water and confetti.
  24. Anyone know why Augie was the second best attendance at the Alerus behind NDSU? I thought UNO or SCSU would have drawn more people.
