DaveK, What do you think of I-AAA? Those schools better get a football team quick.
-
cheeringsiouxfromsmoggycali, That's what I'm talking about. What's stopping the Alerus from telling UND that they have to pony up a lot more money to play inside? I don't know the exact financial info, but I'm fairly confident that three sold out concerts could make the Alerus more $$$$ than a season of UND football, including playoff games.

Fargo Forum - Lennon is responsible for everything

An unemployed coach? Lennon can do much better. -
cheeringsiouxfromsmoggycali, I dont' know if it was a financial part on NDSU's behalf, or just a donation/lease of the land for Newman Field. I do know that Erv Inniger asked the baseball players/staff if they wanted a decent new stadium (they had the funds for it), or if they wanted to wait to see if they could have a really nice stadium(FM was still trying to land a Northern League team at the time). They decided to wait. I believe NDSU leases the Fargodome land for $.01 for 99 years, contingent that it is first/foremost a facility for NDSU activities. The NDSU football staff may even be moving their offices into the Fargodome as a permanent part of the BSA renovation. It just seems strange to me that UND plays football in an arena that they don't have anything to do with, and don't hold any leverage with. It seems feesible that the Alerus management could put UND between a rock and a hard place if they really wanted to raise the rates a lot.

Sicatoka, If you're going to throw old facilities in as well as new, give NDSU five points for the Coliseum for hockey. If you give five points for Kraft Field, the Coliseum is easily worth five points . I've seen better baseball fields at Fargo elementary schools. Better hockey facilities than the Coliseum at GF elementary schools further proves the Coliseum/Kraft equivalence.

From: Newman Outdoor Field Facts... NDSU could have built their own stadium, but instead opted to wait for a collaborative effort, which yielded a greater result. Newman Outdoor Field is located on NDSU property, and has a NDSU primary tenant clause much like the Fargodome. I still don't understand why UND didn't push to have the Alerus built on UND property.

I'd be willing to bet the big dogs will keep more of the hockey money, if it's as profitable as stated. Aren't the same superconference powers the ones Sioux fans boast of playing against in hockey?
-
Does that broad brush paint the hockey landscape, as well?
-
legend334, The big dogs don't always rule the porch. They didn't in DII when football scholarships were reduced numerous times. They didn't when the NCAA allows a team to play a DI sport with an otherwise DII program and budget. It will come down to a vote and politics.
-
If you want I-A teams, so far the teams mentioned are Crimson Tide, Illini, Orangemen, Cardinal, Thundering Herd, Wolfpack (two schools), Midshipmen, Fighting Irish, Green Wave, and Hurricane. That's ten.
-
You stated DI. I-AA is DI, as is I-A. William and Mary, Elon, Hofstra, Dartmouth, Cornell, Howard, and UMass are all I-AA.
-
Here's some more(I-AA's included): William and Mary Tribe Alabama Crimson Tide Dartmouth Big Green Cornell Big Red Elon Phoenix Hofstra Pride Howard Bison Marshall Thundering Herd NC State Wolfpack Navy Midshipmen Nevada Wolfpack Notre Dame Fighting Irish Tulane Green Wave Tulsa Golden Hurricane UMass Minutemen
-
nodakvindy, I have heard that there is greater scholarship disparity in DII now, than there was in the 80's. I don't have any numbers, but there wasn't a lot of former JUCO schools or five scholarship schools in DII back then

Where did I post anything of the sort?

That and a budget.

RD17, We had a heated discussion about this on the bisonville board, and apparently you can put a surface over top of the Fieldturf to have other events instead of rolling it off the floor. The Metrodome may be using it next year. The Alerus, much like the Fargodome, has a couple of seasons left on the current Magic Carpet before they need to start thinking about new turf. The fieldturf would be nice, but the conversions from turf to other events (Manheim Steamroller to UND playoff game?) may not be possible anymore. The crew at the Alerus supposedly had to work through the night to get ready for the game. I heard that it takes less than an hour to roll up the turf at the Fargodome, but am willing to bet it would take a lot longer to put a floor on top of the fieldturf.

UND92,96 1999 was also the last year a MIAA won the Midwest Region.
-
The game should be in Grand Forks, but stranger things have happened.

Philpot's passing was horrible for the first half 2 of 18 to PSU, 3 of 18 to UND receviers. The only reason he was making completions in the 4th was the UND secondary was just trying to keep the play in front of them (aka prevent). UND will need to take advantage of turnovers in coming weeks. +7 is ridiculous, but they need to capitalize. Looks like the Midwest Region champ will come from the NCC for the fourth straight year. Good win for UND!
-
No, I just don't like the Massey.
-
Looks like NDSU should be in the playoffs according to Massey. UND competitive with Illinois? Illinois would win 42-3 if the game was called off at halftime.

Verk62, My fourth quarter comment was a reference to depth (which also applies to injuries). UNC fans commented on that after their game against Montana. UC-Davis was the same way when they played Montana. UNC hung with them for three quarters, but in the fourth Montana's twos were coming in with little to no dropoff in talent. It helps in some spots (D line) more than others, but is still an advantage.

Injuries and the fourth quarter.

This year two GLIAC teams had ten conference games, the remaining ten teams had nine conference games. The funny thing is that some of the GLIAC members "non-conf." games are against other GLIAC opponents (Ferris vs. Hillsdale, Northwood vs. Saginaw)
-
somebison, The NCC, GNAC, GLIAC, and NSIC will make up the Northwest(named for the Nothwest Airlines flights needed?) Region. RD17, I have heard rumblings from UND fans about scheduling SVSU or GVSU, but how will that be pulled off? With Gannon being added to the GLIAC next year, the GLIAC will be at 13 schools. Seven GLIAC schools had one non-conf. games this year, the rest didn't have any. With an additional school next year, GLIAC games will be hard to come by.
