Pirate, Georgetown up until 1993 was a DIII school that had a DI basketball team. They were never DI-AAA in football. In 1993 they could no longer have a DI basketball team without having all other sports DI. Schools like Valpo are part of the reason why I-AA will not become an a la cart item.It's there so schools CAN be DI with football or without having a $20 million football budget. Georgetown might be "non-scholarship", but some of the Patriot League members are a lot closer to being fully funded than not. Colgate, for example, funds the equivalent of 56 scholarships. btw- Gonzaga would be an example of DI-AAA

Wrong pirate. Do you mean the Georgetown that competes in DI-AA football in the Patriot League and is a member of the Big East(DI) for their other sports? There is a DI-AAA, that means they don't have a football team. The only subclassifications in DI is in football (I-A 85 scholies, I-AA 63 scholies, I-AAA no football program). An NCAA school cannot have a DI football, basketball, or baseball team (major sports) without having their entire program DI. All other sports are considered minor sports and allow DII or DIII schools to participate at the DI level without having a DI program. You could be DIII with a DI BB team back in the early 90's (92 was the last year, I believe) and Gerogetown was one of them. They have played DI-AA football and had to field a DI program since 1993.

It's not a point or an attempt to make one. It's a question (note the '?'). I thought I saw someting earlier that REA Inc. was hired by UND for advertising and promotion of athletics starting this year. REA seems to do a good job for advertising and promotion of the arena and UND hockey.

I was up in Grand Forks last week, and didn't see any UND football billboards up there. I haven't seen any in Fargo, either, and there's usually at least a couple in Fargo. No TV ads in Fargo, either. I thought REA was hired to do the advertising for the athletic program . Did I just not see the billboards in GF, or isn't there any advertising for UND football, yet?

Looks like the Big Sky hasn't really decided how many teams they might expand to - From the Big Sky Conference link you provided- Maybe even an 11/10 schedule (NDSU, SDSU, Denver-if they don't go to the WAC) Fullerton has stated that he wants football attendance to average around 15,000. You can't average that many if you don't have that many seats (SDSU and NDSU are the only teams expressing interest that have that capacity- the others aren't even close).

Fullerton stated the academic profile and commitment to athletics was much more important than geography.

Denver's lack of track and cross country programs could be a stumbling block for a Big Sky invite. Fullerton's 30 minute interview on WDAY-AM tonight heavily empahsized the importance of track and cross country to the Big Sky. Fullerton's statements of "only looking at all sports members", "must have all 13 core Big Sky sports", and "absolutely no affiliate members" seem to indicate that Denver is not getting any looks from the Big Sky. The only schools mentioned as/were potential candidates for the Big Sky were NDSU, SDSU, UNC, SUU, SJSU, NMSU, UC-Davis, Cal-Poly and Idaho. He stated the last five schools listed were no longer possible candidates.

Sicatoka, That Gamble quote is from the conference meeting in 2003 - NDSU and SDSU haven't actually played in I-AA, yet. His last statement of "all the schools that are going to play I-AA" to me seems to be a summary of the schools under consideration. It's a little interpretation, but you'd think he would have said "schools that are going to play I-AA or don't have football", much like the WAC stated they were looking for a non-football playing member.

Add to this part of Fullerton's quote - Unless Denver is looking at adding a I-AA football program, I doubt the Big Sky is contacting Denver. Anybody know where the WAC headquarters is located? Looks like Denver is a lock for the WAC

The Big Sky has a TV deal with Altitude sports network.

Gonzaga was a charter member of the Big Sky. Denver would need to add men's and women's indoor and outdoor track, and cross country to sponsor the sport offerings of the Big Sky. They would also need to find a home for swimming and diving, as the Big Sky doesn't sponsor it. Sounds like a lot of work.

Upon further investigation- it appears Marcil's move to the SSC is an upgrade (besides temperature, sunshine, and all the perks of Florida). The SSC doesn't sponsor football, but the schools have a combined 52 DII national championships in all sports (men's and womens'). The current membership of the NCC has a combined 14 DII national championships, whereas the "old" membership of the NCC (two years ago) had 41 DII national championships. Maybe he saw writing on the wall, maybe he wanted warmer temps.

UND92,96 Maybe the in-laws in GF had specials that they didn't realize they were paying??? . The Sicatoka, The money was/is in place for the locker rooms. Soon after it was announced that NDSU might have to pay for the construction costs, a donor was willing to foot the bill on NDSU's behalf.

Global Spectrum took care of the "improper advance" issue both financially and with a proper course of action (i.e. firing). Property taxes- My in-laws that live in GF, who have similar priced homes as myself, pay 50-75% more in property taxes than I do in Fargo. I would not consider that "just about as well". Where does this extra revenue go? It surely doesn't go for snow removal in GF. The Fargodome already built a Bison shrine (with Fargodome profits ) in one of the larger concourses at no cost to NDSU. Why should UND have to pay for essentially the same thing? (especially as the primary tenant of the Alerus) Locker rooms- I have no idea what you are talking about. NDSU already has a gameday locker room in the Fargodome, and will be building a new PRACTICE locker room in the Fargodome. Currently, NDSU's practice locker room is located under Dacotah Field, much as UND's practice locker room is located at Memorial Stadium (?), not the Alerus. Yeah, there were discussions about who should pay for the construction costs, but those were mainly based on legal issues (would the locker rooms be city property, NDSU "owning" something in a city-owned building, etc.). The money was already in place if NDSU needed to pay for construction costs. I'll take black ink and money in reserve, over red ink and higher property taxes anyday.
