  1. When I played we had a coach in charge of listing job openings for guys in town working out with the team. Jobs aren't looked very highly upon while school is in session, but during the summer it was encouraged when I was in town. The only organized activities in the summer is lifting, I believe other than the weight staff, the other coaches have limits as to how much time can even be spent with the athletes. Long story short, pretty much everyone who was in town had a job or took summer classes, some even did both.
  2. From what I heard UND plans on coming to see him this week. In making his decision on where to go to college, I know the football opportunities will NOT be what drives his decision on where to go to college. I hope he gives UND a fair look, but I'm not so sure the ability to play at UND vs. walking on at a Northwestern/Wisconsin is too much of a draw for him, hope I'm wrong though, great kid and good ball player.
  3. I heard the same, he may also go to Bethel in MN as his dad is the Women's Golf coach there.
  4. I guess I'm not sure what the job description of a "teammaker" is, but I'm sure you will have no problem telling us all how good you are at it. I've played in front of loud crowds at UND and not loud crowds, and it's funny, not once did any of the fans come down and help us with the game. I've been apart of teams that won games and lost games in front of all different types of crowds, when you're playing the game, something you have no experience doing, the crowd really becomes a non factor once the game starts. Sure a loud crowd can cause a team to take a timeout here and there to get organized, but other than that, crowd noise never really made a huge difference, if these recent teams of NDSU didn't have loud fans, I'm sure they would still have been as successful as they have been, because they were good football teams, not because their fans are "awesome". Don't lump me in with "guys" tearing down NDSU and the road playoff argument. I've never done that or gave any insight into the road playoff records, if you're mad at someone for doing it, take it up with them, or get over it because what does it matter anyways. I've never "puffed" my chest out about UND, not my thing, I am though proud to be a Fighting Sioux and will never be ashamed of it, no matter how successful the team has been recently. But if UND fans want to do that on a UND message board, you're probably the last person anyone would take advice from on what to do and not to do on a message board.
  5. Zero, and comparing the timelines between UND and NDSU during their transitions, NDSU had 3 playoff games in their 3rd year of being playoff eligible. UND went through a coaching change in their third year of being eligible. We get it, NDSU has been successful recently and UND has struggled. Other than being a fan, what have you done to contribute to the success of NDSU? Nothing I presume, so your trash talking really has no merit.
  6. Don't be naive, I was a 2005 recruit and chose UND over NDSU, SDSU, Indiana, and multiple walk on offers from other Big Ten schools. I was offered a half scholarship to UND and a full to NDSU, SDSU, and Indiana and chose UND because of the staff and the opportunity to play defense. NDSU hasn't won every recruiting battle since either. If you don't know what you're talking about, stay away because you reflect poorly on the institution you associate yourself with......
  7. A common misconception in strength training is that workouts need to be sport/position specific. To say a punter shouldn't be doing the same workouts as a lineman is ridiculous. They are all athletes and the strength staff trains them as athletes. Lineman should be doing more weight than a punter, hopefully, but when training athletes, they should be doing the same workouts. Having gone through the program and working with the strength staff, I can say from first hand experience that speed, agility, mobility, strength, change of direction, etc. are all incorporated into the program the strength staff runs. Injuries happen no matter how/how hard you train. It's part of the game, don't go on a witch hunt for a culprit.
  8. Last I heard Tibesar is a volunteer coach with Northwestern. He is still getting paid by the Bears and wanted to stay coaching and still lives in the Chicago area, so he asked to volunteer with the Wildcats.
  9. This is a unique situation. If Studsrud is better than Hanson he should play. If Studsrud isn't better than Mollberg and Bartels next year, he won't play anyways, so having the title of redshirt is really irrelevant other than the fact that it won't count towards eligibility if he were to redshirt, which he might as well be labeled if he isn't playing anyway. Even if he is the backup next year and either Mollberg or Bartels leaves, he should still remain redshirted if he isn't starting to maintain that extra year of eligibility, he can always be the back up and pull his redshirt status again if needed. There are many players who "waste" a year of eligibility because they aren't playing, so to look at either year as a waste isn't seeing the whole picture. Young players don't tend to play a whole lot anyway, unless they help on special teams or are just flat out better than the upperclassmen at their position. The staff is smart and will do what makes the team the best it can be. It's not high school anymore, these coaches are here to win and they aren't worried about the feelings of players if they aren't playing. The expectation is for the players to earn their playing time.
  10. Great, smart kid from a great family. The exact type of kid we would want to represent our program and university. I've coached both him and his sister, you won't find anyone who will out work and our hustle Trey. Things to work on as a quarterback, yes, but as a Senior in high school, everyone has things to work on.
  11. At least that is roughly about how it worked when I was around, could be a little different now, but the coaches definitely are using this week of practice to focus on fundamentals and getting younger players reps while giving older players a little bit of a rest.
  12. Monday is a day off for the players on a usual week anyways so coaches are probably out Monday and back Tuesday-Thursday. Leave Thursday after practice and come back Sunday for meetings. Friday's the players usually have off during a bye week and have some sort of workout with the strength staff/treatments for injuries. Saturday is usually completely off unless they have treatments set up for injuries and Sunday starts a new game week and business as usual.

Digger has been at the University of St. Thomas the past two years, but still a good guy to look at.
  14. Ok, I like to check out this site every now and then and keep my mouth shut because my fiance and I are former Fighting Sioux athletes and I didn't believe that athletes should be worried about what is said on these boards. Now that I'm not an athlete and I see this post, I just need to reply. I don't know anything about you Geaux Sioux other than I see you write on this board alot and I don't know if you know any particulars about the former Coach Strinz, but I'll start by saying that I hardly consider her 64-137 career record here at UND as turning the program around. I don't want to get into any particulars about behind the scene actions that Coach Strinz and her assistant Randy Ward did with the softball team, but I want to say that this will only be a good thing for the UND softball team.
  15. Actually in the past couple years we have had 3-4 girls from California come here to play so it's not something totally new but is becoming more of a trend

    Young Guys

Now that summer workouts are coming up and Spring Ball is over, who are some of the young guys to look for? Which young guys looked good in spring? I can't wait for the season to start, UNI should be and exciting game. Go Sioux!

    Recruits

Zack LaVigne of Foley, MN. He played running back and safety in high school, but will most likely play safety in college. He is also the cousin of Noah Dombrovski, redshirt OLB for the Sioux this year.

    Recruits

Another recruit to watch is a kid from Foley, MN. Zack LaVigne, starter at free saftey since his sophmore year and taking over running back duties as well as his defensive role this year for the Falcons. Guy to keep your eye on.
