  1. The Esteemed Golden Arm National Advisory Board has announced it will once again sponsor the Prestigious Golden Arm Competition between the NDSU QB and the uendd signal caller. Requests from fans across the nation have been overwhelmingly in favor of continuing the competition. You may recall that shoutin' ed schultz first suggested the award last fall during his sports show broadcasts. The award grew out of his efforts to bring some honor to the perennial UND Harlon Hill aspirant kelby Klosterman. When klosterman was benched (injury?) his proxy, again at the request of the many fans, was allowed to compete. Each week the award pits the QB from the NDSU Football Club against the uend signal caller. Statistics are compared and a winner is announced. The criteria have been: 1) passing statistics 2) overall contribution to team success
  2. Thank you for the email information. I too have checked in along with the 50 faculty members.

So what do you propose? Reverse the call and play an OT period sometime in the future?
  4. That's the last word then and I have it! I knew I would win on the power play! hahahahaha!!
  5. No, I dont agree with you on any of your points. In fact they are so bad, so unfounded in fact that they are offensive. I think a major penalty is in order and your in the Box. NDSU and Decision 1 are now on the powerplay!
  6. Well, in that case I'm not necessarily trying to say any of the anti DI talk is the rolling beat of a hard used Grand Forks drum, Im not even going to necessarily say the anti DI talk is a very sour grape, but come on? If NDSU is able to navigate this thing successfully all the dispersions you
  7. I dont know how much the BSC gets from the NCAA BB tournament but if the Dakota Schools are added the share for each of the existing members will be reduced by 2.5%. Thats $2,500/$100,000 of revenue. I dont see that as a factor. The BSC has already stated early on that they werent interested in expanding but would be there to help with out transition. We may be past that now. They said it about a year ago. Not only is the BSC eligable for the NCAA but dont forget the NIT. In a more competitive league it might not be unusuall to see a BSC team in the NIT and the NCAA. That spells more revenues. I dont know where these western teams pick up all their non conference games now, but its likely they are traveling just as far. At least the addition of the Dakotas would fix their costs and establish profitable rivalries. At worst travel costs to the Dakotas are simply the cost to get to the Dakota Schools less the exisitng travel costs. These costs wont be huge. every other year for football, once/yr for BB and misc travel for minor sports. Im sure if you look around you will find fans indifferent or against the move, but the surveys showed Team Makers to be overwhelming in their support. The general admission fans are going to come no matter who we play. The Team Makers are going to pony up the cash. I dont think the informal survey of "15 die hard fans" means a thing except to provide you with some comfort. Public support for this move is a matter of record. I agree with Tony. This decision will be made on the situation that exists now. Future speculation is just that, the skys the limit. Anything thats possible 2 years from now is possible with the Dakota Schools on board. I think the addition of the Dakota Schools will help anchor the league and provide it with more future stability than it has now.
  8. I agree that moving the NCC up would have required new members, all of which would have required more travel. Obviously NDSU saw this and didnt really expect the entire NCC to move. I think we wanted a travel parnter and SDSU has stepped up. If UND had been a little quicker it might have been NDSU/UND. But the chances of UND moving were clear from the get go: very little to none. In fact it was just the opposite. UND was actively against the move and has been trying to discourage it since Decision 1 was announced. Ive been baffled by that but could only come to the conclusion they are trying to protect their DI hockey status. Whatever the reason, if the Dakota Schools are successfull in their quest it's going to be much harder for UND if they ever do reconsider. Some major changes will have to occur. All the other talk about winning, crowds etc etc are simply problematic. We will have both good and bad teams. We will have big crowds and small ones. It will all work out but the trend line should be up and a higher base line should be in place once the probationationary period ends. We may have to make some concessions to get into the BSC, I guess we will have to wait and see, but it may soon become clear to all of us just how important BSC membership is to the Dakota Schools.
  9. The point Im making is this: The best conference opportunity we have right now is the BSC. If we are selected it's going to be much harder for UND to move up since there will be no good conference opportunity. It's either that or admit your wrong on most if not all of the contrarian arguments. Im hoping The Dakota schools will be accpted for the following reasons: 1) The land grant thing is meaningless all schools in the BSC are members of the NASULGC except Eastern Washington and possibly Weber State. No vote will be taken at the first meeting in Feb. and nothing should be read into the 2 Presidents that may be absent. It could be they are in favor and see no need to attend. 2) The BSC needs to have more than 8 members. Scheduling all sports is much easier with 10. 3) They do not want to expand with schools that are not ready or have to make huge future commitments like Cal Northridge. The Dakota schools are ready to roll. 4) They want stable insitutions similar to themselves. Sac State is the largest at 25,000. The Dakota Schools are more typical in the 9-10,000 range. 5) The travel cost question is a wash. Im not awarae of any other schools currently seeking entry to the BSC. If the conference does elect to expand the Dakota schools will represent an easier road trip for some and a harder trip for others, The same as any new potential member. Travel to both schools is easy and convenient. Adequate airports serve both ends of the Dakota road trip. 6) Both the Dakota schools have long histories with many of the BSC teams. These are rivalries that will represent guaranteed gates in the near future as once again the teams become familiar with each other. I think its likely the Montanas and Idaho State are in favor. The next most likely proponent is Weber State. We will also need at least one from Sac State, Eastern Washington, Portland and Northern Az. If NDSU is not selected as a new BSC school I think we will go ahead anyway. The added cost and hassle of sports scheduling as an independent probaly wont overshadow the benefit to the entire University.
  10. Most of the UND fans dont think the Dakota schools will be accepted into the BSC. I would imagine that the same factors would keep UND out of consideration. Most have also made it clear that a conference affiliation is necessary. The wild card is of course what may happen in 2004, but I dont think it's going to be as sweeping as some might believe. What would UND do for a conference if the Dakota schools areant accepted? If the Dakotas are accepted that will put the BSC at 10 teams and conference affiliation remains a tricky problem for you. Its unlikely that 11 would be considered desirabe especially with all the travel problems UND would present having no travel partner. This notion is reinforced by the fact that many of you think the SDSU/NDSU combination has no merit for the BSC because of geography. Furthermore, it appears UNC isnt considering the BSC because of the lack of a travel partner. It's a mistake to censor your board without removing all distastefull posts including diggerdans most recent hurtfull and disrepectfull remarks.

Those games may not qulaify as upsets. Central Washington was considered an upset at one point as well.
  12. Well I guess I
  13. It is truly the worst of all the arguments. It highlights everything bad about DII and DI hockey. But none of the others make any more sense. They are basically contrived and presented out of context. I dont understand why they even bother? You guys arent going DI, the Dakotas are, so why continue the barage started a year before the decision was made? Are they trying to keep the rank and file in line? I'm killing the penalty now!
  14. I see the Herald is at it again. Touting the non integrated D1 Hockey sport as the least scandal ridden of all big time college athletics, putting down all other D1 sports as too expensive and scandal ridden and conveniently forgetting that your DII basketball program is now dirty and facing sanction. Rather than compare the NDSU move up to the top of the BCS schools why dont they present the situation as it will be? NDSU is going to play in the BSC not the BCS. Thats a lot different and makes a more realistic comparison. In fact, why do they bother to mention NDSU at all? I think thats 3 solid points and makes a hat trick!
  15. The mirror can be an ugly thing and even the uendders cant break them all. It keeps reflecting the same stained image.
  16. Fargo has reached critical mass. As long as the state grows so will Fargo. Grand Forks will stop growing long before Fargo and Bismarck and even Willmar for that matter. Grand Forks is now on the same level as West Fargo. Its Fargo, Bismarck, Mandan, West Fargo/Grand Forks. The growth will continue especially in the Fargo MSA. In 10 yrs your going to look more like Grafton than Fargo. Do you think Grafton is a hick town full of hayseeds? That doesn't bode well for the future. That's why your sticking with what you got and not reaching for a bigger future. Your leaders understand the limitations. If it wasn't for ralph you wouldn't have anything, but he couldn't buy you a growing city. Not believing Wanless and then believing him? come on! You make some pretty weak arguments but if they make you feel better so be it. When the Dakota schools do join the BSC you can buy a blanket for your comfort. uendd is at a dead end. Even if you do swallow your pride (that doesn't cost any extra) and admit you should move, where are you going to go? Your use of difficult geography to preserve your DI monopoly is now going to leave you behind. Everyone thought it would be NDSU/uendd but it turned out to be NDSU/SDSU. Imagine that! Sac State and Portland are on the west coast. They will travel to the Dakotas every year for BB and every other year for Football. The time difference will be handled in much the same way as it was when you played warshington. The other schools are in the middle and it doesn't make much difference for them. I dont remember UNC having any trouble with the time zone? The Dakota schools will add 2 conference games in place of 2 non conference games for all BSC teams. The only cost to consider is the net difference. Over time It may work out to be cheaper than scheduling at random. Cal Davis has no problem with a home/home in Fargo. Central Warshington had no problem with you. The conference is only a very long series of home/home games. Even you guys travel that far to find a series. None of your points were really relevant were they? Wanless is talking too fast and coming up empty. Right now, my guess has it 6-2 at worst. The Big Sky needs stability and new markets. the Dakota schools will bring them that. Most of you have already eliminated UNC. They are too close to the big Co. Universities and certainly their program in headed for DIAA failure. No market share there. Southern Utah, I don't think so. too small, not enough money, and already turned down. Good non conference game.
  17. There's not disdain for hockey in Fargo. there may be disinterest but not disdain. There is no jealousy of uendd sports. But there is a realization that DI sports are a necessary evolution for NDSU. Why that brings such discomfort to you people is beyond me, but the negative and abusive chatter has barely slowed up and it's been at least a year since NDSU announced Decision 1. Dire predications of failure, a retreat to arguments like hockey is #1 and your too stupid to understand it, shoutin ed schultz daily tirades and mocking echoing most uenders, a failure to view any move or opportunility objectively...it all adds up to a counter charge of jealousy. There is a moo in NDSU. We are an great ag school, a premier research institution, we have a tremendous undergraduate program, we are located in the fastest growing MSA in the region, money is pouring in, and we are headed for DI athletics probably in the Big Sky Conference. But the future of hayseed is firmly in your town. We will see it in our generation. Fargo will continue to grow at a 4 to 1 pace over the grand cities (You had as many residential building permits as Willmar, Mn.) NDSU and uendd will mirror the growth of their respective cities. Its going to have a profound effect on the dynamics between the 2 schools. More and more NDSU is going to gain political and fiscal power. We will add colleges and hopefully in the not too distant future a College of Veterinary Medicine. uendd graduates will continue to populate our city because thats where the money is. There will probably even be a city arena and a hockey team. We may never have as many DI titles as you, who can say? But if thats the only reason NDSU shouldnt upgrade it's athletic programs to match its academics moving ahead is the only thing we can do. The rest of the arguments are contrived and dare I say out of focus.
  18. Mr. Hoyte, the reason that those things are brought up is because you asked about them. The only reason Im here is to provide a balance to your own (collectively) negative infatuation with NDSU. Its very interesting how narrow minded and unsophisticated many of you are. Dare I say hayseeds? Mr. Hoyte is at the top of the list. He asked about the effort being put forth by the UND constituency against the NDSU Decision I. When he gets the answer he acts baffled a lot like that other hayseed Barney Fife when he got to Mt. Pilot and asked about the coaching job in Sacramento. It all matters because there is very little that's benign about your institution. Proof lies in the history. I dont expect you know much beyond last years football title. As NDSU continues to grow Im sure many of you will get more shrill and make even less sense. Try and remember what you've said so you can begin to comprehend the replies. Ignore is not that far from ignorant. What we need is an ignorant feature to make some of you a little more cognitive. Its a blissful world when your left to your own fantasies. When your challenged with balancing thoughts you seem to lose composure and get vindictive.
  19. Maybe Mr. Hoyt didnt listen to Shoutin' ed schultz go on and on this summer until he was apparently muzzled? Maybe Mr. Hoyt didnt read the local paper? Maybe Mr. Hoyt didnt listen to the president of his insittution? Maybe Mr. Hoyt doesnt read the posts on this forum and others? Maybe Mr. Hoyt cant understand that the NCC is indeed a seperate league from the various DI hockey leagues but as a DII conference its fortunes are decided by the Hockey schools. Sometimes they have the same concerns and solutions as the others, and, as Mr. Husby has pointed out sometimes not. The NCC should be a DI conference but the special interest of the hockey schools have prevented that. I think the way it has turned out is the best. I also believe what I have said about the future of the NCC will turn out to be true. Why? It best serves the hockey schools.
  20. I think the facts are on the table. It
  21. I think that
  22. Why doesn't Glas state the facts? Instead he tries to make it sound like Allen hung around for a day or two and got a "free" room (I guess that means the Beez, not Allen paid for it). Never mind that the team supported him for 10 days. Im not too encouraged that the institution is reporting accurately. That would mean listing the number of days Allen was on the roster, the support he received during that time including meals, rooms, travel and money. They should also include the relationship with his "agent". If the "agent" ever appeared to be representing Allen's interests he could be construed as having a contract. The fact that this information is so readily available may indicate that due diligence wasn't followed in checking Allen's background or the administration was fully aware but thought they could get away with it.
  23. The hockey schools dont neglect other sports but rather refuse to upgrade other sports. The NCC cant move up because the hockey schools wont go. The money needed for the move would impact the hockey budget.
  24. Well, at least the Moorhead State forfiet wont hurt your record, but if this pans out will the forfiets cost you the playoffs, assuming of course you would otherwise qualify? I would think some of you are wishing you had shown a little more empathy to the UNC situation with Cutlip. It appears your willing to accept this as just a slip up. Some of you wished UNC good ridance from the NCC and goodby to a dirty program after the Cutlip thing came up.
