  1. As I noted above, UND decided that they could not pay the guarantees that they handed out last year and teams aren't interested in traveling up here on their own - we really are not "on the way" for teams to stop in and play us. I agree with your concern and but understand our predicament (which could be much more of a problem if we were DI). I plan to make my concern known to the new AD in a very positive manner. I suggest others do the same. In case anyone thinks otherwise, Coach Glas and his staff are not pleased with this home schedule, either.
  2. Tony - you have been making a lot of great points in a very unconfrontational way recently. Not sure why you would rip RD17! He simply alluded to this report and gave a one sentence synopsis of its findings! Plus, by adding "in most cases" he acknowledged that some moves to DI were beneficial.
  3. Very well-written and I am sure very accurate. I hope 1) that we get the new indoor facility that is being discussed and 2) that this puts pressure on the University to address the quality of the coaching. Undoubtedly, our facilities do make recruiting very difficult - but that doesn't mean that you don't try to recruit. I also know of ND and NW Minnesota kids (quite talented) who would have liked to have gone to UND (without scholarship $) but didn't simply because UND showed no interest in them. That is inexcusable. We have also lost a few excellent FB recruits who would have also liked to participate in track because of the poor facility and questionable coaching. SiouxRunner - What are you thoughts on Clay?
  4. Tony - your point is well-taken!
  5. I agree. They paid out a lot of $ in guarantees to some pretty good teams last year. Apparently they weren't willing to do so again this year. Part of the problem is that it just isn't very easy or inexpensive for a team from out of the area to get to Grand Forks. Therefore, teams "need" a good guarantee to travel to ND when there are plenty of other high calibre teams for them to play closer to home. It gets back to geography - UND's location makes it very difficult and expensive to recruit - and find teams to play in GF.
  6. Something is amiss when an honor roll student can't achieve a high enough ACT to qualify. They must grade quite easily at DeLaSalle!!!!
  7. His GPA and ACT scores are not quite what UND's new standards require.
  8. It appears we have a good shot at getting Bledsoe. He visited 10 days ago and apparently liked what he saw. They are working on his eligility under UND's new entrance policy which, I would hope, would not be a problem. With Nobles and Doyle, I don't think they really wanted to use scholarship $ on another point guard but Bledsoe has a great deal of talent - even at only 5'11"!
  9. Appears to be an outstanding choice!
  10. Do we know if this was the only field goal that Hellevang attempted? In a high scoring game like this, it may have been his only attempt. Anyone familiar with him? How are his kickoffs? Can he get them consistently into the end zone? Of course, he will have a fully redshirt season to continue his improvement.

    Buning is new AD

I don't believe it is (was) common knowledge.

    Buning is new AD

I have been on vacation for a couple of weeks. It is interesting to note that apparently Al Molde was offered the AD job first but withdrew when the salary was not sufficient. His wife has a very good job in the Cities. Hopefully, this won't start another debate about who should have gotten the position - with many of us thinking that Rob should have gotten it. I do think Molde would have done a very good job had he accepted.
  13. Thanks for posting this. Quite interesting - I probably agree with the Herald on this one although I certainly would like the training facility to go there. As I stated earlier, if we had not had the change in ADs, the training facility would have likely been announced some time ago and this wouldn't have been an issue!
  14. Four-five months ago (when they were about ready to make an announcement, the cost was pegged at $11 million.
  15. Various former athletes have provided design and architectural assistance with a proposed new track/practice facility (saving UND a great deal of $). It likely would have been announced a few months ago had Roger not left. They have not wanted to proceed without the blessing of the new AD. I believe they have some substantial commitments but a fund-raising drive would be necessary. It may have been wrapped up by now had the AD situation not arose. Had that happened, the issue about the best use for that property (EERC or athletics) would not have been an issue. But... it is and I would guess it will get quite interesting before it is all decided. Although I would love to see the much-needed track/practice facility go there, it probably would be better use of that property for the EERC to utilize it. They are land-locked for the most part. The EERC has done a great job of expanding, creating higher paying jobs for local economy and I would bet that this is just the beginning of what they can do. We will see how it all washes out in the next few months.
  16. UND Hockey - You are stooping to the level of many NDSU fans with your rather immature comments. They just prompt Bison fans to respond with more crap. Please stop - we all prefer that the Bison fans go back to their board or contribute rational posts. Thanks!
  17. You make some very good points!!! Do you suppose we could talk Tom out of retirement??
