Speaking of quarterbacks, does any one know how UND's red-shirt freshman, Lee Groeschl, is looking? He is out of Fond du Lac, WS and comes in highly touted. He has nice size: 6'3", 190 and I am sure he is still filling out.
  2. Evan Lindahl is 6'10" and has also added some weight over the summer - he really needs to toughen up more. This likely will happen as he matures. He should be an immediate offensive threat. Great shooter, even from 3 point range! Defense has quite a ways to go! I believe that there is another Lindahl coimg along. Probably an 8th grader or freshman in high scyhool - already 6'4" or 6'5". Hopefully, he will be another future Sioux.
  3. Jerome has also gained 15-20 pounds from last year - in the right places. With the returning cast and Myron Allen plus some help from frosh Lindahl, they could be very good this year. A lot will depend if Jeff Brandt can "light it up" from the outside. If so, it could be a great year!

    Sioux/Bison

Gentlemen -- you need to remember that this was an article written and EDITED by an Trib sports writer. He likely put the Minnesota "spin" on the article to create interest among metro area readers. I would guess that this was one comment out of a couple dozen. I sincerely doubt that Mahmoud feels UND would be totally helpless without Minnesota players.
  5. He wasn't going to class and had a bad attitude. The coaching staff still wonders what he would have been like had he not been injured. He was supposedly one of the most talented recruits they have ever brought in. They are saying the same about Myron Allen this year. He is the "real deal"!
  6. From an inside source, if it is determined that the kid should not have been playing, the three games in question will be considered losses for UNC. However, the other teams will not be given wins. Therefore, we really need UNC to win at St. Cloud this weekend.
  7. I understand that Todd Rypkema, the 6'11" sophomore from Wisconsin, has made very good progress over the summer. It is nice to have some talented young size.
  8. If/when NDSU's program evolves to point where they can easily handle UND, there certainly doesn't seem to be any upside for UND to continue the series. The only reason to do so would be a large guarantee from SU for our traveling down to Fargo. If NDSU doesn't rapidly surpass UND, something will definitely be wrong in the Bison camp. There is no way that a "good" program with 36 scholarships can compete with a "good" program with 63 full rides. You can't use UC-Davis -- Sacramento State as an example because Davis is a "better than good" DII program and Sac. State is a "much lousier than average" I-AA school.
  9. Has anyone in Grand Forks seen the UND men's basketball team working out? I realize practice hasn't started yet but the guys are always play in the afternoon. Wondering how the new point guard, Myron Allen, looks.

    Recruiting

Anyone living up there know what HS football players UND is looking at? Obviously, they would like to get Roger Thomas' son.
  11. Again, I fully agree with your comments -- as they apply to football! However, we would need to go DI in all sports. And, unfortunately, I think it would be disastrous for all other sports - including women's basketball and both M & W swimming where we are national DII powers. All of our other minor sports programs are respectable or better. I think we could kiss them good bye - because 1) we couldn't compete and 2) we couldn't afford to fly our baseball, volleyball, soccer teams around the country to play other DI teams! Thanks fo rincluding the picture of MY HERO.
  12. Your post of September 7 was well-written and I can not disagree with many of your points. However, it specifically pertains to football. I don't think that there is any question that UND or NDSU (not sure about SDSU) can compete at the I-AA level. However, I would be curious about your perception as to how all the other sports would be affected by the move. Recruiting DI quality basketball players to the plains and winters of ND is not very realistic plus I am not sure how our baseball, volleyball, swimming, track, etc. programs could afford to continue (our recruit better athletes). Your thoughts?
