A necessity in UND making a successful move to DI would be an increase in student fees. Am I correct that the amount of student fees that go to UND athletics is only $50 per semester? I know it is tremendously lower than most schools (DI or DII). There was just a post in one of these forums that quoted the student fees at other lower level DI schools. They were very high. A question to current UND students and those who have recently graduated: Do you think the student population would agree to increasing student fees to assist in the funding of a move to DI? Let's not turn this into a debate of all sorts of DI pros and cons. Let's just hear what you think UND students would do if asked to raise their student fees. Include the basis for your thoughts.
  2. While I do not share your interest nor your knowledge of the sport, I appreciate your passion about it.
  3. Lacrosse may make a lot of sense for UND someday but I guarantee you that the last thing the committee is going to be discussing is lacrosse. I am not taking a shot at those of you who have a big interest in lacrosse, it just isn't going to happen anytime soon.
  4. Until school is out I really hate to provide this info but.... issues included grades, more playing time, personal problems, etc.
  5. All three are juco players. It appears we have a very good shot at getting two of them and a decent shot at the third!
  6. I don't know what the situation is with Mertens but agree he may be a good pick-up for us. I do know that we have three other offers out right now - if all three agree to join us, that would take care of all the available scholarship $.
  7. I agree, if healthy, they could be a very good front line although I don't know if Dryburgh and Koenig would normally be on the floor at the same time. I don't know enough about their individual games. There are a couple of other kids that may also be able to contribute on the front line right away. We will see if we can sign them. Bledsoe had his surgery either yesterday or today. It is a serious injury - he might not be back. Harkins is seeing a specialist about his shin splints. That kid has a lot of talent - I sure hope they can find a way to solve his problem.
  8. As noted above, there are 2-3 other JC ball players who have UND high on their list. We have room for five additions as Blackwell, Wills and Probst will not be back. It sounds like Koenig is healing up well.
  9. I was not aware that the doors to the Old Ralph ever opened. What is the BB team (or anyone else) using to for?
  10. In the telephone survey UND is conducting with Alumni, local business leaders, etc., it is implied that it would cost $3 million a year to make the move and fully fund all the sports we currently offer. That being said, it is part of the DI committee's job to determine exactly what the move would cost. I would guess that it would be more than $3 million.
  11. Dale bleeds green and would love to stay but.... -- while I think he knows a move to DI may not be best the for other UND athletic teams, he would definitely like the challenge of leading our FB into IAA. -- we went head-to-head with NDSU on nine recruits that both teams really wanted. We went 0 or 9 - SU got them all! Dale (nor the rest of us) is not used to losing recruiting battles with SU. Not that we always got who we wanted, but we got our share. This is very frustrating for the staff. -- if offered another $75-100,000 with the possibility of additional bonuses/incentives on top of that, you absolutely couldn't blame him for moving up to a IAA job or possibly an assistant at a big time DI school. -- most long term coaching contracts have "outs" in them allowing the coach to move on if certain other opportunities arise. I am sure that is the case with Dale's contract. -- All that being said, I am sure the Kolpack was just "stirring the pot". I am sure he doesn't have any inside information.
  12. Anybody know anything about her other than what is in the press release?
  13. While I understand and share some of your concerns, who falls into the category of being "run out"?
  14. Read my post above. That is as concrete as it gets!
  15. I understand the philosphy but I don't understand how it applies here. Why did you make the comment if you aren't willing to explain it???
  16. The salary for the Bemidji job was substantially more than he is making at UND. I think UND offered to increase his income but it was still a long ways from what Bemidji offered. He is leaving UND with no hard feelings, in fact, it was a very difficult decision. He did not go looking for this job but was recruited very hard by the BSU folks. This position gives him the opportunity to be the No. 1 guy in an organization and everyone with high ambitions wants that opportunity sometime during their career. They like the lake country and this gives them the opportunity to move to where they will likely retire in a few years. I think Rob is in the camp that UND needs to move up to DI but I don't think that would have been enough to keep him at UND. I absolutely hate to see Rob leave. He is a great guy who has done a great job at UND - he truely "bleeds green" but he made the right decision for him and his family - and they have to come first!
  17. Please explain..............
  18. After trailing by 9 at halftime, Washburn outscored Central 42-19 in the second half!
