I am surprised that Jossy Bergan wasn't one of the top five nominated for Miss BB in ND!

I am curious as to what the Canad people think about the proposed casino/hotel complex. The primary positive - it would bring more people to the GF area. The primary negative - it would be major competition as the other high-end hotel in the market.

I would guess that UND will not have an All-Conference player this year - we really don't deserve one! When was the last time that happened? It must be some time ago?

Thanks for the insight! By the way, I fully agree with your comment regarding "throwing away" next season. We are 3-4 players away from being a respectable team - especially with losing most of our scoring. Koenig will help and I understand Bledsoe will contribute but with only a couple of scholarships available, it may be another long season!

92,96 - I don't disagree with the vast majority of your points but, until our future is more in stone, I think the pool of potential candidates would vary a great deal depending on if we were headed towards DI or staying DII. I do agree that there are likely some very good candidates who would be interested in the job either way but I just don't think UND will make a move now. I may be wrong. Despite his success, I would be opposed to Margenthaler. He has alienated a lot of his players over the last couple of years - I don't think he is well-respected among his peers either. I am out of the area - refresh my memory, who are Smith and Irwin? Is one of them the former coach at Jamestown College who was very successful. He moved on as an assistant somewhere and, I understand, would be very interested in our job.

I used to know Jake pretty well but not in recent years. Do you think he has any interest in coaching at UND at some point down the line or would he prefer to go straight to DI?

It looks like Greg McDermott may be a leading candidate for the open Missouri job. If that would happen, I wonder if Jake has made enough of a name for himself that he would get the UNI job. Otherwise, I am sure he would follow McDermott to Mizzou.

Whether it is appropriate to make a coaching change or not (and it probably is), that decision won't be made until we have a better idea what we may do on the DI issue. If we started looking for a new coach right now, 1) any applicant would want to know if they were going to be coaching a DII team or a DI team in transition for a few years and 2) the list and quality of applicants may be dramatically different depending on whether it was a DI or DII job.

I follow the women's program closely but seldom get to see them play. The following is not a second-guessing type question of Coach Roebuck as he does an outstanding job but I am surprised that Kimbrough doesn't get more minutes. She is often in the 13 to 18 minute range. I fully realize than we have Langen underneath and that she is having a great year but I still would have thought that Kimbrough would be getting more minutes. Any thoughts on this? How does she look when she is playing? I know she had has some great games - have there been games where she hasn't looked too good?

I agree with most of your thoughts except your last one. Engelstad money was used to build the Betty and they wanted it done prior to the Jrs. It is that simple. With a set $ amount to spend and a limited time to build it, this is what we ended up with. Is it perfect for our needs, heck no but it is a great building compared to Hyslop and when compared to most DII arenas. We just need to figure how/where to put another 1,000 seats or so. As I have said before, we can debate the past all we want but it won't change things. Therefore, let's talk about how we can make things better with what we have!

I talked to Thompson a few weeks - he was very excited about the 12 commitments that he had at that time. He was pleasantly surprised how "relatively easy" it was to convince recruits to come to UND. The facilities, the people and the quality of the education impressed the recruits. Having a locker room and a very accessable (not used by too many other teams) weight room at the Betty were also big plusses. It was good to hear this. Thompson is a winner. Hopefully, we can keep him for quite a while.
