For the record, it's 5,000 for hockey at the Scheel's Arena in Fargo. It will be 10,450 for hockey at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.

If I should happen to make it to the game on Friday night, does anyone know what box is the GOBC box? I may try to sneak up there to shake a few hands and see if I can get any inside info.

The Islanders got Nick Leddy from the Blackhawks and Johnny Boychuk from the Bruins today. Both teams needed to make salary cap moves and the Islanders capitalized. I did not want to see Boychuk get traded. He will be missed in Boston and will be a great addition to the Islanders.

This would be all the more reason to start linking the 2 together ASAP. Hopefully "they" would catch wind that "we" will turn it into the Spirit of the Sioux and this has no chance of becoming the new name. Spirit would be about the worst name they could pick. I'd rather go with MM's Glittery Unicorns before Spirit.

Am I correct in stating that this was the doing of the GOBC? They must have pulled some strings for this! -
Jim - I have cleared my cache and here is a list of things that I still cannot do: 1. I cannot use the Quote feature. If I click Quote on someone's post, it takes me to the bottom of the page to a blank "Reply to this topic" area. Not only does it not have the person's original quote in it, but I also cannot type in it. I have to refresh the page before I can type anything. 2. I cannot create a hyperlink to a web page. I can click the Hyperlink icon and the Hyperlink window opens. It looks different than it has in the past, but I cannot click OK to "complete" the process and take me back to my reply with the hyperlinked web page. 3. Once I have that Hyperlink window open, I cannot close it and I have to refresh the page. Also, if I just try to copy and past the link from a website/article, I cannot. I copy the link and when I come back to my reply area on SS.com, when I try to paste nothing happens. Same thing if I have a article open and I try to copy text from that article and paste it here. I can't. Any suggestions?

Stecher sitting? Not sure I see that. He's solid. -
Along the same lines... Kevin Hayes becomes free agent I can certainly understand why he might not want to sign in Chicago due to organizational depth. If he wants to get a quicker shot at playing in the NHL it would make sense for him to do this. However, this may not be good for college hockey, as teams will take note and not let guys go this long without signing them.

He and his lawyer are spinning it as he's only being brought in to testify as a witness.......for now. We'll see if that changes here in the future.

I think the changes I made to your post above are perfect.

Goon - sorry, but you now cannot ever ever ever get after MM and his Red Wings "paint drying".

Yeah, I agree. Don't get me wrong - I don't have a problem with his comments either. I guess when I say comical what I was referring to his him rationalizing going from Anaheim, who will have a legitimate shot at winning a Stanley Cup, to Calgary where they'll most likely be in the Connor McDavid sweepstakes next year and how excited he is for that.
-
Yeah, I know that. I also know that the more they're paid, $hit rolls downhill...and that raises ticket prices, concession prices, etc. The average Joe like me can hardly afford to take his family to a game, and certainly can't take them to multiple games. I'm not a huge fan of some of these salaries either. That being said, how can you blame a guy for making what someone is willing to pay him? And if the owners are willing to pay them that much, it's because fans will show up and pay the ticket prices and buy $12 beers. You can't "tell" someone that all they can make is $1M, or make them donate money somewhere. Reading that comment was comical. What about doctors, lawyers, etc.? Do they make too much and should we make them donate a certain amount of money somewhere? Should we require that corporations that make huge profits donate that to student organizations as well?
-
Wow! And how do you feel about large corporations?! <cringing>

Yeah, I actually thought that his honesty was pretty cool to hear as well. And yes, he did say that. Regarding Toronto he said it was nothing against Toronto or anyone on that team, but when you play for years against that team and they're such a huge rival, it was hard to think about going and being a part of that team. Pretty cool to not just hear the typical cookie cutter responses.
-
Yeah, some player's comments when they move to a new team can get comical. On a slightly different note, did you happen to hear any interviews with Josh Gorges? He was brutally (almost too) honest. He talked about not wanting to go to Toronto. He had a limited NTC where he had to submit a list at the end of the season of 15 teams that he would be willing to go to. Basically, as he thought, this was just a formality as a part of his contract that he has to do each year. He had no inkling that he'd be traded, and obviously Toronto was not on that list and he wouldn't waive his NTC to go there. The interviewer was then curious about Buffalo being on that list being that they were a bottom-of-the-league team. He said that they originally were not, but once it got out that he was going to be traded and Montreal was having a tough time moving him to a team on his list, Montreal came back and asked if he'd expand this list by 5 more teams, which Buffalo was then on. Let's just say Gorges was not happy with being dealt by Montreal, and Buffalo was kind of like an ugly bridesmaid in the whole deal. In the interview he sounded like he was about to cry.

That's a great deal for the Blackhawks. With Richards' buyout, he'll receive $12.6M over the next 12 years in salary from the Rangers, along with $8M over the next 3 years in signing bonuses. Add to that the $2M that he'll receive from the Blackhawks, Richards will make about $5.7M next year.
-
Yes, that surprised me too. Sounded like he wanted to go back to Boston, and Boston wanted him back, but it didn't fit cap-wise. I think Boston would have been the best fit for him, and I was hoping they could have re-signed him, but figured it wouldn't happen.

I just didn't like the idea of them bringing in Vanek, period. Much better to get him on a 3 year deal rather than something like a 6 or 7 year deal, though. We'll see how he performs I guess. I think I'd rather have Moulson at $5M/year than Vanek at $6.5M/year. Agreed regarding McCormick.
