You throw a punch with or without the gloves on and look at what happened.....he got kicked out for Saturday's game. If he was going to follow Hakstol's instructions, why throw any punches at all?

You're right, the gloves and helmets came off, but Lee didn't "fight" him. The only punches thrown were right away when they had helmets and gloves on. Once the refs stepped in the yard sale began, but there were exactly 0 punches thrown after that. In fact, the MSU kid was trying to get at Lee, but at this point Lee was doing all he could to get away from him. Again, I'm not saying Lee has to fight...that's not his game. However, don't jaw with the guy and then start throwing sissy punches at the guy's helmet, and then when a real "hockey fight" starts you try to get away from the guy!

If you've seen it once, you've seen it a million times. There were 4 others going at it virtually at the same time, and Lee didn't do squat (which is fine...if he doesn't want to fight, I'm not saying that he has to). However, when did he decide to get tough? When the others were done and the refs were making their way over to his area. Now that the refs were there, he knew it wasn't going to turn into a "fight"...just a punch or 2 with helmets and gloves on. If you watch the end of the fight, the MSU kid was going nuts and wanted at Lee...Lee wanted to be as far away from that kid as possible. I'll bet he had to change his underwear as soon as he hit the locker room!
  4. I hear what you're saying and I see your point. One thing that I can say will be different about this go-round is that there seems to be more planning that has gone into this than earlier attempts. Gino and the rest of the USHL owners are not going to let "just any" team join the USHL. The USHL is a top flight league with teams owned by Mario Lemieux, Luc Robataille and the like. If they do bring in Dean Blais to run the ship for a few years and get the program started (until he gets back into college coaching), he will hopefully be able to get the team off to a great start here in Fargo. To clarify an earlier post that I made...I do not think that all Fargo residents that have Sioux season tickets will give them up for this USHL team. Especially posters on this site, who are the "die hard" fans. Certainly the first year or two there will be a feeling out process in the Fargo community, but I think with the new rink and a guy like Blais at the helm, this will take off...unlike the Bears in the Moorhead Sports Center and Ice Sharks playing in that sh*thole they call the John E. Carlson Coliseum. Seriously...Pee Wee's should be the absolute highest level of hockey played in that rink...and that's a stretch.
  5. Not that it matters, but they were actually coached by Steve Johnson, who now coaches the Lincoln Stars, not by Scott Sandelin.
  6. I think if Blais does actually come here and get the program up and running, it would take some away from UND hockey. The reason I say that is look at the number of people that drive from Fargo to the games at the Ralph (I think someone in another thread before has said the percentage of season tix that are from Fargo). Kids that play in the USHL go on to play Division 1 hockey (UND, UofMinn, Wisconsin, CC, Denver, etc.). If that kind of talent is playing in Fargo, and they would then have that nice facility, and you can follow them through their college careers (and beyond), why would you not want to watch them? It certainly doesn't mean that you can't also be a Sioux fan at the same time! UND plays about 20 home games per year. USHL teams get about 30 home games per year. I'm not sure what season tickets for the Sioux cost, however season ticket to the Omaha Lancers, for example, is $330 rinkside reserved, and $270 for reserved seating. I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing the Sioux season tix are quite a bit more expensive than that - and for 10 less games.
  7. You have to wonder if "Bear" is his real name or a nickname. Wasn't "Bear" Landa's real first name Randy?
  8. The USHL is a "Tier 1" junior hockey league, while the NAHL is a "Tier 2" junior hockey league. Many more players from the USHL will go on to play for Division 1 college hockey teams and possibly to the NHL than will from the NAHL. When the Ice Sharks left Fargo, they moved to Chicago (Bensonville, Illinois) and are the Chicago Steel. Fargo can certainly be a hockey town. With this new arena and a USHL team playing in it, I think many who have the old "Fargo is not a hockey town" opinion will be surprised at how well hockey does.
  9. No, I don't believe the Jets will move to the USHL, I believe it will be an entirely new organization that moves in with new ownership, etc. I can't say that with 100% certainty...only 99%.
  10. The Jets will not stay here once the USHL team arrives.
  11. Agreed...Kaip laid low for a while and Bruess did get him with a good shot, and that's when Kaip got up again, but knew better than to give him a beat down.
  12. Lee got rescued by the refs...he wanted no part of that guy!
  13. Wow...Bredahl was pretty emphatic in his statement about "the incident"!
  14. I agree...and I may be wrong here, but what is a 1 goal win over BSU going to do for the Sioux? BSU lost to Maine 7-1 and 6-3. They lost 6-2 and tied 2-2 with Niagara. They lost to Robert Morris??? and tied Niagara twice more. Yeah, they may have beaten some WCHA teams, but look at the records of who they beat (besides 1 win over CC).
  15. 1-0 Denver beats the Goofers.
  16. I agree, but let's be real. Here is BSU's record vs the WCHA: 0-2 vs Mich Tech (Mich Tech is 5-9-2 in WCHA) 2-0 vs Mankato St (Mankato St is 5-10-3 in WCHA) 1-1 vs CC (CC is 10-6-0 in WCHA) 2-0 vs Duluth (Duluth is 5-12-2 in WCHA) So the only 'real' team they've beaten is CC. The Sioux should have pounded BSU tonight.
  17. I could only wish I was that good!
  18. Sorry HockeyMom...I usually like your posts, but no, I haven't been in a coma for the last three months. I've played college hockey and yes, a win is a win, but a team like the Sioux should not be happy with a 1-0 late goal win over BSU. At least not if they have hopes of doing anything significant this year. I want the Sioux to end up in St. Louis as much as anyone, but they should not be settling for this. They should have pounded BSU tonight.
  19. I'm not a troll...I've had season tix to the Sioux since I was about 4 years old. Beating BSU by scoring a late goal is not a huge acheivement for a team like the Sioux.
  20. There is no reason why this game was so close. If the Sioux can't beat BSU by more than 1 goal with about 2 minutes to go, they've got problems this year.
  21. Gophers lose 1-0 to Denver.
  22. Are you watching the Sioux basketball game?
  23. Just tuning in from Tokyo.....unfortunately not playing Tune in Tokyo, but sounds like it's 2-2? Thanks for the updates! Makes a guy feel like he's at home!
