USA/Slovakia about to start. I hope USA left the showboating crap in the pool play and now that we're in the playoffs they just go out and get down to business.

I won't be by a computer this weekend........I'll take Duncan on Friday and IF I make it I'll take Gregoire on Saturday. Thanks.

This was said by Roger Gress and the park board. Yes, Fargo voted no to building a new facility publically. However, if this facility was not built, Fargo would have had to update, renovate, etc. the existing facilities. The cost of this was in the millions. I can look when I have more time for the article if you'd like me to.

Regarding the school district renting the ice...they'd have to rent ice either here or at the Coliseum, correct? Yes, they put up 10 or 15 years worth of rent up front, however they would have had to pay that rent anyways, and they're getting the icetime at a discount by paying up front. I think this goes back to the "sloppy" comments, but again this does save the schools money in the long run. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they deeded it to the park district and it is not taxed, however they were filing to be a charitable organization, which would not have had to pay taxes either - and I do believe that after this all happened they did get granted charity status (whatever it's called), right? So in the end, even if they would not have given the building to the park district they wouldn't have had to pay property taxes. Also, let's not forget that if this did not happen the citizens of Fargo would have had to pay $X million dollars to renovate the existing facilities - I'd have to do some digging to find the exact number.

mikejm...please expand on this. I have heard this argument from different people, but have yet to find someone that can point out what has not been privately financed for this arena. To my knowledge, this has all been done with no public funds. Did some of it go down "sloppily" and look like a PR mess? Sure, I'd agree with that. But I can't agree with the argument that it has not been privately financed, unless you know something that I don't. The only thing that I'd give you is technically it is now "owned" by the park district, however they are still not on the hook if anything goes wrong with financing or the Metro Sports Foundation can't pay the bills. However, it has all been privately built, financed and will be maintained by the MSF.

Dave, get off it already. Walski knew the situation when he came to ND. He's a good goalie, nobody's saying any different. But Eidsness is clearly the guy that will be starting the lion's share of the games (if not all) from here on out.

Not a former player, but a former coach. In an article by Jess Meyers in USA Hockey Magazine, Blais has a few comments on the possibility of NDSU hockey. This probably deserves its own thread, but thought I'd post it here. Sioux Who?

Sorry, but Toews did not play for Team Canada's World Junior team in 2005 in Grand Forks.

Don't tell that to DaveK!

I haven't seen this posted anywhere yet (maybe I missed it). Challenges of a Concussion

I'd be interested to hear anyone's thoughts after watching these girls (specifically the Lamoureux's) play. I coached against them in Pee Wee's and they may well have been the best 2 players (and meanest/toughest) on the ice. They will both play on the US women's olympic team in the future.

SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play

Quick observations from last night: Bruneteau will be a STUD. He is good with the puck, shifty, fast, seems calm, cool and collected. He seems like "leader material" (from my 1 game of watching him!). Gleason was small. I never really looked beforehand to see how big he was, but I guess I envisioned he would be a big kid. He was small. Good player, logged a lot of ice time (PP, PK, etc.). Seemed like a very smart player, but will disappoint anyone who is looking for an enforcer type defenseman that can lay hits like Commodore, Green, etc. White got 2 goals - can't argue with that. I can't remember the first, but the second was a powerplay goalmouth rebound garbage goal. That may well be where he can do his damage. He's a big kid and with a little seasoning could be good. All in all, looks like 3 good players that will bring their own strengths to UND. -
Best post of this thread!

Correct...Meland has committed to Princeton.

Surprise, surprise...you either misread, misunderstood, or just plain chose to twist my comments again. I never said anything about "losing their composure and melting down during a game". As a matter of fact, I think I tried to be very clear in saying that they need to temper that emotion during games - which is what makes them elite goaltenders. I tell you what...you go ahead and twist the subject any way that suits you. Just like a good politician...when the facts don't add up in your favor, go ahead and change them!

I'm assuming you were responding to my original comment, since I believe that was the first time you replied in this thread. It's not too hard to look it up, so instead of saying "It was earlier in this thread, I don't even recall who said it.", try looking it up. If I'm incorrect on this, I apologize. And my original comment was: If you read the quote, I said that I've played with goalies that would show that emotion in practice. I don't believe I ever said anything about freaking out and going off the deep end during the game. Add to that the fact that the comment made about Eidsness was about him having a tantrum in practice (if it's even true, being that it was said during a "spoof" interview) I have to say I really love the way you can twist a comment and conversation. I do want an ultra-competitive goalie who may spaz or throw a tantrum from time to time in practice. I think you'll find many top tier goalies are like that. They know when they can act like that, and then can temper that emotion during a game. That's what makes them that good. You can't tell me that Ed Belfour, Jon Casey, JP Lamoureux and others were/are not like that - I know better. Dave, your lack of knowledge really shows the more you post on this forum. I know the "Have you ever played the sport?" comments can get old when people are talking about hockey knowledge, as some fans who didn't play really do know the sport, but in this case it really shows that you truly never played the sport. It appears you love the sport and you love UND hockey, which is great, but that doesn't mean that you "know" the sport.
-
I'd say headcase is a pretty strong word. Do I want a goalie to throw sticks, break sticks squirm around on the ice after goals? No. Do I want a goalie who takes getting scored on to heart? Yes. Do I want a goalie who is ultra-competitive? Yes. Do I want a goalie to get pissed off when he's scored on? Yes. Do you think goalies like Ed Belfour, JP Lamoureux, Jon Casey, etc. weren't like I described in my previous posts?
-
Dave, as tough as it may have been in the past, I don't believe I've ever replied to any of your posts before because I didn't want to pile on and add to other poster's replies to you. But this is comical. This is not squirt hockey! You play whatever goalie gives your team the best chance to win. You do not play goalie A over goalie B because goalie A is a senior and goalie B is a freshman. In squirts, maybe...in the WCHA, absolutely not!
-
Umm...OK...whatever you say, Dave.
-
I agree 100%. All of the "good" goalies that I've played with were a little bit "off". In fact, one of the best goalies that I ever played in front of would spaz in practice when he got scored on. When I watched that interview and they described Eidsness's reactions and tantrums I got a big smile on my face because that told me all I need to know about the kid. I'd be more worried if the kid let in goals and didn't show any emotion.

Looks like Robbie Bina was recalled to Springfield after 7 games and 3 points in Stockton. Defenseman Bina Recalled to Springfield

In the "AROUND THE NET" section on the USHL website there are links to comments from Kristo and Cichy regarding the World Junior A Challenge. USHL Website -
Yeah, you could see that coming. I was hoping GF would get this again, but being that Buffalo has never hosted, they have an NHL arena, and the close proximity to the Toronto area it's no surprise that they got awarded this tourney. It will be back in GF at some point...hopefully sooner rather than later.

I want to start by saying this is not confirmed, but I have heard a rumor that Jeff Dubay was charged with possession of meth. Has anyone else heard this? You can use the following link and then search by last name for Dubay. Again, this is a RUMOR at this point and I am not trying to start anything by this...just wondering if this is true. As much as I am not a Jeff Dubay fan, I am hoping this is not true. Link
