Russia had 3 opportunites to put the game on ice: 1. A Russian forward got the puck in his own zone with about a minute or so to go in the game and had room to skate, but shot the puck down the ice towards the empty Canadian net and it went wide for an icing. If he skates with the puck and gets to the red line the game is over. 2. With about 15 or 20 seconds to go, the Russians were battling on the boards at about the top of the circles and couldn't get the puck out of the zone...get it out and the game's over. 3. With about 7 seconds the Russian in front of the net goes down to his knees to block the puck and it takes a bad bounce off of him right to the Canadian forward for the game tying goal. If he gets in front of that puck and moves it to the corner...game over. Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

Monday for Bronze will be Slovakia/Russia...Gold will be Sweden/Canada.

They awarded the goal to VandeVelde, so the refs must have thought he touched it....just didn't kick it in.

Boy, the atmosphere in the Ralph is just dead. Not only the crowd, but the play on the ice. Bemidji just took a penalty and you'd never know it by listening to the game.

You are correct...Hynes was an assistant that year. I checked the other years and they look correct.

Slovakia is beating Sweden 1-0 after the 1st period in today's semifinal game.

In the 1987 championship game vs. Michigan State played in the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Kidd scored a goal and had 2 assists (all in the 1st period) in the Sioux's 5-3 victory. He was also named to the All-Tournament team.

In the Prospective Recruits thread there are some posts about a past player, Malcolm Parks. People are sharing their memories about him and this got me to thinking...why not have a "player of the week" thread, where we can talk about past players. People can share their stories - big games they had, their stats, where they were from, or any other interesting story about that player. Sioux hockey has a rich and storied tradition - past players have made Sioux hockey what it is today - why not share stories, information, and learn about them? Also, with new Sioux fans coming from youngsters growing up or maybe older fans from other parts of the country who are just starting to follow the Sioux, this is a good way to learn about past players and the Sioux hockey's history and tradition. Hopefully this is something people will like and contribute to...if not, then I'm an idiot and we can discontinue this idea.
