  1. FCS Atlantic and FCS Pacific both list the Missouri vs. Old Dominion game on Friday evening. But the Sioux Xtra show is listed before the basketball game on FCS Atlantic. So I would guess that the schedule is listed wrong. It is doubtful that they would have the same game on both networks, and doesn't make any sense to have the Sioux Xtra show on before a different college sporting event.
  2. The tickets are still available if anyone is interested. Make me an offer if you don't like the price.
  3. These tickets are still available if you are interested in watching 3 of the top 6 college hockey teams in the country play this weekend.
  4. Eyewitnesses are not always reliable. They may have seen different things. If the stories didn't match up pretty closely it would be hard to build a case. And if it happened quickly it is hard to say how many were actually watching as it happened. They may have just noticed the aftermath of someone laying on the concrete.
  5. I will get things started with Gregoire on Friday and Trupp on Saturday if I get through.
  6. They may want to look at moving some of them to other positions like Safety or Wide Receiver.
  7. UND will still be a transitioning school, but they already count towards bowl eligibility. That's why Texas Tech was willing to play this year. I don't have the rule handy, but I believe that it involves having an average of at least 90% of scholarships in place over a 2 year period. UND pumped up the scholarships so that they could be eligible to play FBS schools as quick as possible, which was this year. UND never facing Alabama is a strong statement. The odds are pretty good that they won't play in 2010. Curry was the obvious connection for GSU. The thought seems to be that if Bama wanted to find an opponent to replace GSU as a counter, most schools will already be booked for late November. Most leagues are booked through that weekend, so there may not be a lot of options open if Bama needed to replace the game. But they can probably find a way to massage the schedule if they need to. So I think that they could find a better fit if they want.
  8. When you are transitioning to DI you have to pick up games wherever you can.
  9. I have a pair of tickets available for both Friday and Saturday of this coming weekend. The seats are at the top of Section 306. Watch the Sioux shoot in the 1st and 3rd periods. The tickets are for both games on each day. Asking $30 per ticket, $60 per pair each day. Tickets are in Grand Forks and I will be attending the games so we can make whatever arrangements needed to get tickets to you. Send me a PM if you are interested.
  10. The last information I saw was that there was no television coverage for the Saturday game. The only video coverage would be the webcast. That information could be wrong, but that was the last I heard.
  11. Division I sports like football and basketball have been all about the money for many years. You can go all the way back to the 20's and 30's to see some of the football scheduling, bringing the big name football players and teams to places like New York to play in front of big crowds. Players like Red Grange and teams like Army or Notre Dame were in huge demand. And why do you think they started football bowl games? Money, and the chance for places like Los Angeles and Florida to make a name for themselves. The Rose Bowl was started during the early part of the last century to give Pasadena some publicity as a great place to be during the winter. Big time athletics has never been about the students, or at least not for several decades. If you want college athletics that are all about the students you can go watch Division III, or non-scholarship conferences.
  12. At least there is some reason to it other than the view from the seats of the Fargodome.
  13. Nice counterpoint. Great use of facts and figures to support your argument.
  14. My guess is that the new contracts would be arranged so that there is no affect on the cap for this year, whether they have to trade players or even if they have to wait for final signatures until after the season ends. They will make whatever moves needed by the time the season starts next year.
  15. When a city has teams in all 4 major professional sports, plus several Division I programs in the area, a college hockey game ranks a long way down the list of interest for the average sports fan, much less those that aren't into sports. I would guess that the University of Denver is only the 3rd or 4th most popular college in Denver and that football and basketball teams from those other schools would rank above UD hockey.
  16. It is all about the money. Depending on whether a produced broadcast is available to be picked up, and how it can be transmitted, the costs can vary a great deal. But it all costs a lot of money. And Grand Forks advertisers are being spread pretty thin right now. Finding a lot more money to pay to broadcast a lot more games could be tough. The great thing about the FCS package is that UND got a huge boost in distribution with absolutely no cost (as far as we know). The signal was already going up to the satellite and FCS just had to grab it and distribute on their network.
  17. It's kind of funny that most students and young people feel they are harassed and being put down. Every rule is aimed directly at them. Older people hate them and try to take advantage of them. That this town (whichever town they live in around the country) is the worst place they could possibly live and that the same thing doesn't happen in other places. And then as they get older they start to support many of the same rules and regulations they hated when they were students. And learn that not everyone was against them the whole time. It's kind of like how much smarter parents get as kids grow up and become adults. When you are a teenager you can't believe how stupid and lame your parents are. By the time you are in your mid 20s or 30s you can't believe how much your parents have learned.
  18. Any wins in Denver will be sweet.
  19. I wouldn't classify it as rude, but I would say it is somewhat inconsiderate of the people behind you. As was stated by others, it doesn't happen a lot. It doesn't make the incident less inconsiderate or rude, but a few minor incidents don't measure up to the same effect as a lot of minor incidents or a major incident like pouring a beer on someone. I don't know if being rude is always black and white (although it can be depending on the incident). I think inconsiderate and rude are both shades of gray, with inconsiderate being a lighter shade and rude being a darker shade. Standing on a rare breakaway is a lighter shade of gray.
  20. I think it depends on who you ask. Standing up during a breakaway is probably a natural response for an ardent fan. But it also interferes with the ability of those behind you to see the play, especially those that may have difficulty getting up quickly. And if you start with the people in front standing, by the time the chain reaction gets to the back of the section there will probably be a group of people that miss the play. So the answer is probably that it depends on whether the people in front of you stand up, and whether you want to be considerate of the people in back of you or not.
  21. Respect is a good word, especially for the older fans. Many of them have been supporting UND for many years, and spent many dollars. They definitely deserve some respect.
  22. A lot of them may be. But a lot of them are also very shy. They may hold those feelings in until they explode. I would guess that a lot of oversensitive and thin-skinned people get walked on and pushed around by bullies and blowhards who I know are less courteous and rude.
  23. There are definitely a lot of oversensitive and thin-skinned people. But common courtesy, civility and consideration are all way down, and rude behavior is way up. The developments may or may not be related.
  24. Funny, I bet that the older people paid at least as much as you did for that same seat. So they deserve a little consideration. You aren't the only one there to enjoy the game, deal with it.
  25. I think someone else mentioned George Carlin's 7 Dirty Words yesterday. Youtube has a couple of great versions. And not all of them are even considered profane any longer. At least a couple are used on TV during prime time.
