It probably means that everyone gets a day off once in a while. Plus, someone gets hurt every year. There will be plenty of playing time for Gleason.

Just wasn't sure, and there were no smilies so it's hard to tell sarcasm. Not angry at all, just trying to clarify. And Dave is a lost cause.

Since I have been actively talking about retiring the nickname for well over a year, and since I actively contacted legislators more than a year ago to try to prevent the moronic nickname law you can probably guess that I'm not in favor of putting things at risk with the Big Sky. That doesn't mean that UND getting thrown out of the Big Sky is a foregone conclusion. My guess is that it is less than 50% chance during the next 6 months. Since things are already set up for next year I think they will let the drama play out, especially with the other issues in places like Montana. If the constitutional amendment passes it probably goes over 50% because that will guarantee trouble with the NCAA for a more significant time. It would also still leave them time to reschedule sports for 2013-2014.

Would you really consider the University of Phoenix one of the finest colleges or universities in the country? That was the original claim, some of the finest colleges in the country don't have sports. Nothing about size, we're looking for quality of school. I don't think we're going to find Phoenix on any list of top colleges.

I haven't lived in Minnesota for 18 years so I can't be of any assistance. -
Dave can't be wrong. It is completely impossible for him. Therefore he can only answer questions when he can be right. Otherwise he will try to change the question to something he can answer correctly, or try to turn the question around to someone else. Even though his original statement appears to be false, it obviously can't be because Dave can't be wrong. The best advice seems to be never question Dave. If he can't be wrong, why question him? Just let him make his statements and move on.

The narcissist, I mean Dave, is always right because everything in the world is a matter of preference. There is no right or wrong, unless you disagree with Dave. His preference is the deciding factor. For instance, you could explain to Dave that a uniform is supposed to be for the protection of the player. So if the uniform can be used against you, for instance if someone can grab your jersey to hold you, or use the jersey to tackle you, then the uniform is not functioning properly for you. Your uniform should not be able to be used as a handle to defeat you. If the uniform can be tailored and form fitting it is much more difficult to use that as a tool against you. The new uniform would be more functional, because it does a better job of protecting you. And that doesn't even consider things like new fabrics that might breath better and be harder to hang on to. Dave would probably point out that the baggy uniform has functionality for the opposing player, and that is a good thing because it is his preference. So even though the baggy uniform is less functional for the player wearing it, and a form fitting uniform would be more functional for that player, Dave would tell you that the overall functionality would decrease with a form fitting uniform because he doesn't like it. See, it all makes sense. Never question Dave, he is always right.

One thing I've learned this week about narcissists, I mean about Dave, is that he is always right. He knows best, on every topic. He's right because to him everything comes down to personal preference. Facts aren't really facts, they are just suggestions. Insults aren't insults unless they are against him, that's his personal preference. Last night he compared mass murders to a Federal judge ruling on a nuisance lawsuit and dismissing it because it is his preference to do that. I think the best policy is probably to just nod your head and continue your conversation without actually engaging him. If more of us can adopt this policy then maybe we won't have quite as many threads highjacked. I'm going to do my best to follow that policy.

I agree completely and am on the side of not wanting to risk the downside.

He made a direct statement that he can't back up. But because he made the statement he's right. Dave is always right, it's time for us all to realize that and just ignore every post he makes, I mean accept every post he makes. That is probably the best for everyone on this forum.

You forgot yababy, although he hasn't posted a lot lately. But I'm pretty sure he doesn't live in North Dakota so he won't be voting.

It's been accepted on Bville. You might want to expand your circle of friends a little bit. It seems to be pretty up in the air to everyone else. It's definitely a possibility, but there is no certainty that it is going to happen. And that is part of the problem. If it were a certainty then that could help convince some people on the nickname issue. Right now it is just a possibility.

No college president is going to come out publicly and say something. Fullerton is the mouthpiece for the conference. The presidents stay out of the actual battle. If they decide to do something they will go ahead and do it. But I would be shocked if any of them made a public comment either way unless they were forced, or until after something was done.

Don't bother trying to introduce "facts" or "evidence" into a conversation with LakesDave. He knows all and sees all. LakesDave is always right. These people obviously are lying to sell a product. They are evil and should be destroyed. How dare they perpetrate such a monstrous hoax on the American public. Every employee of the company should be flogged. I have now come to realize that it is wrong to ever disagree with LakeDave.

I hadn't even thought about the Anoka deal since it was a few years ago. -

You want some numbers? Start with this study on Super Bowls, http://cber.iweb.bsu.edu/research/superbowlstudy.pdf. It looks back at about 20 years of Super Bowls. An example of the NCAA Final Four from St. Louis in 2005, http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/stories/2005/09/12/daily38.html. Regionals probably bring in about 1/2 of that and Minneapolis would probably get a few of those. That's a starting point and should be considered in the argument. I'm sure that there are numbers somewhere on events like the high school football state tournament and from large concerts. It isn't about being in a popularity contest. It is about being able to compete with the top tier of cities. Minneapolis can compete with the Seattle's, Denver's, St. Louis's of the world. -
One of the things they look at is PR. Having the issue mentioned side by side with the words Big Sky over and over again will not be seen favorably. The 2 football only schools will not get a vote because they are not full members. UND will not get a vote. Only 10 schools would vote on the issue. Don't know if it will happen or not, but it is a definite possibility.

You continually ignore the other 200-300 events that will be held in the stadium each year. Those tax dollars count just like the Vikings tax dollars and MOA tax dollars. Whether you believe it or not, there is a unique benefit having an NFL team in your city. You can build another mall in any town in the country. There are only 32 NFL teams. The NFL gets more TV coverage than any other sport. There is a reason why cities are willing to build stadiums to attract teams. Amenities like an NFL team are sold by cities to attract companies. Having an NFL team gives a city the perception of being big time whether they are or not. If the Vikings do leave there will be a push to bring another team to the Twin Cities. That will cost even more than the current stadium proposal. Just look at the current efforts to bring the NFL back to Los Angeles, or the effort more than a decade ago to get the exhibition team now known as the Wild. -

Ziggy would have taken the Arden Hills deal, but it needed state money. The state wouldn't agree to support that project. He didn't walk away for a better deal, he walked away because the state wouldn't help them finish that deal. I believe that the Minneapolis money is coming from a current tax that built the Convention Center and some other projects. They are planning to continue the tax rather than let it end. But the money from this tax won't be available for a few years, until the other project is paid off. -

Probably. And other team's players would probably pay a somewhat similar amount. -

Minneapolis and Hennepin County also benefit from having the stadium in that location, just like the state does. Minneapolis has a regular sales tax. People coming to stay in Minneapolis because of events at the stadium pay that additional sales tax. I don't know if the amounts are close to equal or not, but it does benefit Minneapolis. Minneapolis also gets the PR and advertising benefit of having the name mentioned every time games are televised from there. That is a benefit. When you live in a large city that is often one of the costs, helping pay for a project like a stadium. -

The taxes are paid based on where they are earned. That means where the games are played. As I mentioned above, Joe Mauer pays taxes on 1/2 of his salary in Minnesota because he plays 1/2 of his games in Minnesota. He also pays taxes in every other state the Twins play in, the amount based on the number of games in that state. Players from other teams also pay taxes in Minnesota based on the number of games played and their salary. -

That is correct. And in professional sports the vast bulk of their salaries are paid during the season, they do not get the money spread across the entire season. There are some bonuses paid on attending training sessions, or training camp. -
It is much more fair than systems used in other sports. Some people believe that the KRACH rankings would be more accurate. It is another system that ranks teams buy results. I am not as familiar with it so I couldn't tell you the differences. But many fans think it would be more representative.

As I pointed out above, it is misrepresenting the stadium to say it is just a Vikings stadium. High school football state tournaments will be held there. Concerts will be held there. There is pretty good chance a Super Bowl and at least one NCAA Final Four will be held there. Truck pulls will be held there. The stadium will be used 200-300 times per year, not the 8 (actually 10 because of preseason) games per year. All of these bring people into the stadium. Those people pay for parking, eat, sometimes stay in hotels, etc. Those dollars should also be considered in the process. Many states now require that professional players play income tax for each game in the state where the game is played. I don't remember if Minnesota does this, but I think they do. So Mauer would pay income tax on 1/2 of his salary in Minnesota. He probably has to pay income tax in Texas, California, Washington, New York, etc. But that also means Alex Rodriguez and other players would pay income tax in Minnesota.
