The last thing they want is to have people get educated on the subject.

I think you lost the friends you gained yesterday. As jdub mentions, it's interesting that you only pick out a timeline where you can show success. Overall, UND has a winning record over NDSU. The past 20 years, a period that I would say is more relevant than picking out a 50 year period, UND has a winning record. NDSU has won more championships during the period they were in Division II and of course the title last year. But UND has also had a great deal of success at the national level over the years. Yet in spite of the success that NDSU has had, many fans still hold petty grudges about things that have happened many years ago. Many of those things had very little effect on NDSU in the long run. Maybe you and your buddies should grow up and act like adults rather than holding grudges like children.

It's the University of North Dakota athletic program. Fighting Sioux is the nickname they use. The program won't change. The nickname will. I'm sorry that you don't have the ability to understand what everyone else on the planet understands. The program isn't going anywhere, they are just going to be called something else.
-
Fetch said that, but earlier tonight he said that he still wants to keep the name. So he is not a man of his word. Dave just wants to destroy the program.
-
North Dakotans are always hesitant about changing the Constitution. Plus that would add another 5 months to educate people on the actual consequences. The majority of North Dakota citizens will not do something that they believe will hurt UND. So it is a matter of making sure they understand.
-
Your lack of understanding is almost unbelievable. You and Dave are quite a pair. If the No vote wins in June the Supreme Court will review and will probably determine the law is unconstitutional. If it isn't found unconstitutional the Legislature can overturn the election with a 2/3 majority, basically the same vote as got rid of the law in November. And I wouldn't count on the vote going your way after the court decision anyway. A lot of people will change their vote when they realize that the lawsuit is over and can't help after all. But at least we know that your word is worthless.
-
Thank you for that correction. You are absolutely right.
-
The University is meaningless to Dave. It is basically a vessel to deliver the nickname. The nickname is all-important to Dave. He has said he would rather have the athletic department close down than lose the nickname.
-
Maybe you should take some classes at a Sylvan Learning Center, you're reading comprehension needs a great deal of work. I have said many times that I support the University of North Dakota, and I will dearly miss the Sioux nickname when it is retired. The University is the most important part of the equation. The nickname is secondary, exactly what a nickname should be. The NCAA is something we have to deal with.

I think he's gone completely around the bend.
-
Don't worry, it probably won't last.

Dave, I was probably a Sioux fan before you were born. I am a graduate of UND. I have been a season ticket holder for years. You don't know what a true Fighting Sioux fan is, because a true Fighting Sioux fan is a fan of the University of North Dakota. You worship a nickname and logo. You can't separate that nickname from what is truly important. I have never stuck up for the NCAA, I predicted what the judge was going to say. You can't understand any of this so you lash out. I am just about to the point of feeling sorry for you.
-
And this may be one of your best posts ever. A study that has been quoted on this forum in the past shows that schools who do well in sports, like reaching the Final 4 in basketball, have a significant increase in attendance in the following years. Gonzaga is just one example. Sports are definitely a recruiting tool for many schools. I think they are really important for schools like UND and NDSU when recruiting in the Twin Cities.
-
You are completely ignorant, aren't you? And you can't separate fantasy from reality. Everyone on this forum that has been saying it is time to retire the nickname are fans of UND AND fans of the nickname. But we recognize that sometimes you move on. Sometimes you end the fight before you lose everything. As a wise man once said, "you've got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em." You don't know when to fold 'em.
-
Severe sanctions would be shutting down the program or removing UND's membership in the NCAA. Modest just means that they could be worse. Notice he didn't say light sanctions.
-
I completely agree. I would guess that there are a lot of schools that just avoid the subject so that they don't get pulled into the issue.
-
Does the following statement look familiar? It is directly from Judge Erickson when he dismissed the Spirit Lake lawsuit. I guess that being a voluntary organization might have been important in the case.
-
So your word is worthless. Good to know.
-
UND couldn't partner with Spirit Lake because they signed a legal document that they couldn't sue again after the settlement. When they signed that agreement Spirit Lake had not agreed to approve the name, so that would have been Spirit Lake's fault for not agreeing to support the nickname earlier. Of course if they had given approval earlier UND wouldn't have had to sue in the first place. The judge said they potentially could have been meritorious, not that they were meritorious. That means they might have had a chance, not that they would have been successful. So, are you going to live up to your word or not?
-
On its own I would agree with you. As part of a cumulative effect that shows the trend of schools deciding that they won't schedule games against UND as long as they use the Fighting Sioux nickname, this has at least some importance.
-
That would eliminate games with Crookston also.
-
It probably came up today because Tim O'Keefe mentioned it in his Fargo press conference this morning. This is from the Forum article on the press conference: SDSU officials were contacted for a comment and it sounds like they have confirmed his statement. My guess is that UND football coaches were told by someone at SDSU some time in the past few weeks.
-
Shhhhhhhhhh, I didn't want to let Fetch, Dave and the others how good the dough is. Next thing you know they'll want in on the next round and that'll cut in on our share.
-
Get over it. That was almost a decade ago. NDSU seemed to survive just fine. I don't know how any of you can get anywhere carrying that huge grudge. Act like an adult instead of some kid who had his lunch money stolen. Did NDSU do anything to help UND through their transition? I don't think so. The schools are even. That whole "what RT did with NDSU starting it's transition" thing is just pathetic.

They've all been bought off by the evil empire, the NCAA.
