  1. He actually thinks it makes sense. He believes that it's a real comparison.
  2. That's a very interesting solution. Way to think outside the box.
  3. He doesn't understand the concept. He is superficial. It's all about the label. The contents don't matter. He may be the only person on the planet that can't see that the athletic department would be completely the same whether the teams are called the Fighting Sioux, Flickertails or anything else. What matters is what's in the uniform, the people, the athletes, the coaches, the staff, etc. Dave believes that only the name matters. One benefit of retiring the nickname would be losing superficial people like Dave from the fanbase.
  4. I believe that at one time he said he was fine with the Oilers moving to Tennessee, but lost interest when they change the name to Titans. Dave is fixated on the label. The contents don't matter, only the label is important.
  5. He also said that the NCAA would be destroyed by the lawsuit. Just a couple of his delusional statements. Someone should start a list.
  6. Look, I will try to explain it to you like I would to a small child. Sports are important to colleges. UND is important to me. Sports are important to UND. It is important to keep sports strong at UND. Retiring the nickname is the price to keep sports at UND strong, and the price to keep UND strong. It isn't about what is good for me. It's about what is best for the students, athletes, coaches and staff at UND. It's about what is best for the state of North Dakota. But you would never understand doing something because it is important to someone else. It's always about Dave.
  7. See, the nickname is "important" to him, so he's right (in his mind). It doesn't matter what's important to anyone else. It's all about Dave.
  8. We can all see what your point of view is, it's tunnel vision. Nothing matters except you and what you want. Everything else can burn to the ground. That's a great legacy to leave for the world. You should be proud.
  9. Let's see, another Nazi insult. Another PC zealot insult. You call the entire Alumni Association out of touch with reality, and compare them to Nazis. Good to know that you are consistent in your delusion and your insults.
  10. I do comprehend that. But alumni do have something at stake, something you just don't understand. A college experience is very personal. It can become like part of your family. Current and future students are part of that extended family. There is a connection between alumni from different eras. You want to share those experiences with your children, grandchildren or your nieces and nephews. Take them to games or concerts. Show them where you went to school, met your spouse. So losing the school would be something like losing part of your family. But I'm sure that losing your parents, or your children, wouldn't matter to you. You've had your experience with them. You have your memories of them. It wouldn't matter to you if they were no longer part of your current life, because you can remember the time you had with them. Nothing matters except you getting what you want.
  11. The statement from the Committee is completely out of touch with reality. It is insulting, contains many lies, shows a complete lack of understanding of collegiate sports, and a lack of understanding of collegiate life. Any respect that the Committee may have deserved in the past is now lost. The fact that they are trying to force a state University to keep a sports nickname that the school does not want is beyond belief. It is now time to end this charade. Vote YES on Measure 4 for the good of the University of North Dakota.
  12. Actually, that statement clarified your priorities more than anything else you have said. So I wanted to make sure that everyone saw it. If you think that makes me an intolerant jerk, I'm all right with that. I'm not going to write what I think of you. If this was an issue that only affected you I would say do whatever you want. That is when "to each his own" has real meaning. You want to change your name, go right ahead. You want to shave your head, have at it. You want to live without electricity, good luck. This issue affects thousands and thousands of other people, NOT JUST YOU. Many of us spent a significant portion of our life associated with that school, something you and Fetch just can't comprehend. We got an education, that helped set us up for the rest of our adult lives. We made friends, some of which we have had for decades. We have memories of good times and bad times. Some people met their spouse at school. That's why we have a deeper connection to the school than you do. And deeper than pretty much anyone that is just a fan of the sports teams. That is why this issue is personal to many of us. It is a sports nickname at risk to you. It is our University at risk to us. The sad thing is that you will never be able to comprehend the difference.
  13. You really shouldn't correct things, because you never get them right.
  14. Just helping stress your point, Dave. I want to make sure that people understand your priorities.
  15. I already said that the Nickel probably wouldn't be an issue for the NCAA. I was just pointing out to you that the Nickel does have connection to the nickname, road signs and Highway Patrol cars do not. You are right, the Nickel is more closely related to the logos on display at the REA. But that doesn't connect them to the Highway Patrol or the Highway Department.
  16. The road signs and the ND Highway Patrol cars have nothing to do with UND football. The Nickel Trophy does. Having a trophy with an image of an warrior on the trophy does connect itself to the Sioux nickname.
  17. Having an image of a Sioux warrior on a trophy during the regular season would probably not affect the NCAA policy or the settlement. But you are right about the potential of that perpetuating the Sioux nickname. I don't know if the NCAA would have a big problem with that part, but it might be easier for the school to not use it if they are trying to transition to a new nickname. It might be less trouble to just cut all ties to any Native American imagery in current use and just keep it for its historical value.
  18. Dave has boiled the entire issue down to this one detail. He wants to prevent UND from having a team with a different nickname. He doesn't care if UND doesn't have any teams. He doesn't care if the athletic department survives. He doesn't care if the University survives, or in what condition the University survives. He doesn't care what any one else wants. He doesn't care what any of the tribes want. His only purpose is to prevent UND from having a team with a different nickname. What a noble goal in life. Dave, you've just won a lifetime achievement award for this one statement.
  19. Again, I didn't say anything about where it should go. Everyone else got it right, except you. Try reading it again you putz. Museum curators are PROFESSIONALS. They aren't going to do their job half-assed like some NDSU grad would do. They try to do it right or they don't do it. They have STANDARDS that they follow. And when someone who studied the field tried to tell you that, you called them stupid. Then you completely misread 2 of my posts. I don't care if you want to tack it up on the garage wall like a hubcap, that would be your opinion and you don't have access to it so it doesn't matter. My issue is that you are insulting people, and that is one of the reasons that you are a troll. And since you don't understand standards I'm going to be very happy that you don't handle any accounting for me.
  20. I didn't say anything about what should be done with the Nickel Trophy. I said that you were being a jerk for calling someone stupid when they were trying to explain the proper way to handle a historic display. That person has professional training and was providing information, you make up crap and insult people. Go back to Bville where they appreciate people that make up crap and insult people. And you might want to invest in some reading comprehension classes.
  21. Just because he is 6' 4" doesn't mean that he can become some muscle bound hulk. Not all bodies are built that way. And that may not work with his skill set. The stereotype of the hulking defenseman isn't always the way to go for a player. Forbert is better off working with the coaching and training staff to find the best fit for his skill sets.
  22. If a museum is going to do it they are going to do it right. They are professionals. We're not talking about some guy who puts stuff on the wall in his garage. You were just told how a professional does the job, and you are still making fun of it? You really can be a piece of work, troll.
  23. The Minnesota State Board of Education passed a resolution back in 1988 (it's in my list). I believe that schools associated with reservations are not affected by the resolution.
  24. From 1988: In 1991: In 1998: In 2002: In 2003: I also know that a ban was discussed in Colorado, but I don't know if that passed or not. The issue isn't going away any time soon.
  25. Their government speaks for them, just like the United States government speaks for the citizens of the United States. They have a right to run their government how they want. That is how they choose to run their government. Just because you want to find out how they would vote in some symbolic gesture doesn't obligate them to change their form of government. And if you are worried about how the Sioux as a total people feel, there are quite a few other Sioux tribes in the Great Plains. Every Sioux tribe other than Spirit Lake has a policy against UND using the Sioux nickname. Should we honor all of their feelings? Or just Spirit Lake since they agree with your position? None of the nickname supporters have ever answered that question for me.
