Goon's comparison is true. It's a nice rink but they didn't make the bowl steep enough and the advertising banners scattered around kinda cheapen it up. It's a great asset for Bemidji and definitely one of the nicer college barns. Tap beers are generally $5, and they have premium beers and a mixed drink station. With the first expected full house in quite some time, they'll probably jack up the concession prices . . .

Tough to type, but I think it's a bad hockey weekend for my favorite squads: Sioux get swept at Miami (5-3 and 3-2) and Gophs sweep Bemidji (5-2 and 4-2). Oh well, it's better than no hockey.

I still vote for Denver University (even sans Gwoz) for the NCHC rival. Lots of great WCHA series, playoff games and even those NCAA games.

Watched the game on Midco HDTV (channel 622) here in Bemidji. TV broadcast pixelated numerous times throughout the night - about every 10 minutes or so. All of Midco's live HD sports broadcasts (i.e. SDSU/NDSU football) have done this - and that game in particular was unwatchable and had to switch to channel 26 and watch in SD.

They need the interlocking ND on the side of the helmets.

Midco's own HDTV broadcast was stuttering/pixelating often, too (at least here in Bemidji).

I was at that concert. How about Maiden/Def Leppard at RR Fair, Kiss (Fairgrounds), David Lee Roth/Trixer (?), Slaughter, Cinderella open for Bon Jovi, Monsters of Rock in Mpls, Poison at the BSA, Ratt at Showlander (sp), Metallica/Cult, hmmm what else back in the day am I forgetting? Here's one, how about "Hollywood Trix" and "Straight Lace" at battle of the bands - those were fun. We used to head up to 'Peg and saw Crue a few times, and saw The Cult and Great White at Night Moves bar. And Park River dances!

My first concert: Ratt with Bon Jovi at the Hyslop. Don't forget Trixter, Britny Fox, Dokken, Faster Pussycat, Kix, LA Guns and for good measure, Slaughter.

We have Midco/ESPN U in Bemidji. Our hotel in Bloomington does too.

I'm in Minneapolis today. Anyone heading over to Sensors in Bloomington? We plan to watch the Sioux beat Yale and then take the kids over to the X for a Wild game.

BSU AD Dr. Rick Goeb was relieved of duty at the end of 2012. I wonder if he was still part of the selection committee or if someone took his place?
