They don't talk about the Sioux tribal ceremony when they talk about that series, at least not the Maine fans I have spoken to, they speak about the support and caring that our hockey program and fans bestowed upon them once again.
-
As we all have noted, tribal councils are more a dictatorship than a democracy. The members of Spirit Lake have overwhelmingly voted in favor of the Fighting Sioux name and logo. Can the tribal council still formally oppose our use of the name and logo? If so, to whom will the NCAA listen. If the members of Standing Rock manage to get to vote on the issue and also vote their support of our countinued use of the name and logo, can their tribal council formally oppose our use of the name and logo?

OK, I'm setting myself up for flaming but I can't stay quiet. I am as big a supporter of the name and logo as anyone. I believe that we use the name and logo with the utmost respect, loyalty and love. But, I do not believe that our name and logo in anyway helps to educate people who the Sioux people are or were. Not once in my travels has anyone asked for the history of the Sioux people when they admire the Sioux logo on the clothing I am wearing......not once.
-
Even if the voting was overwhelmingly against, it would be wrong. The University has NEVER stipulated NA programs would exist only if we continue or were given permission to use our name and logo, NEVER.
-
It would be wrong to stop/reduce/change in any way UND Native American programs if we lose our name and logo.
-
Programs, benefits, assistant, etc., for minority groups are provided because a need has been identified that the University can meet/provide. To attach 'strings' to the programs, such as we get to keep the name or logo or else, is hypocritical. Think of it this way, the Red Cross comes into a disaster area and provides meals for the victims but withdraws from the area because the some of the victims refuse to donate blood. The NA programs on UND campus are funded by federal grants.
-
Doing that would make us hypocrites.

On one hand, I don't support printing information without authentication. But, this is news and I believe it is important for us to know what is going on even though it's a bunch of bull shat. How else can we defend ourselve from these lies? I have faith in the Spirit Lake people. They too see this as a deperate ploy by the pro-name changers to get their way.
-
I agree. Let's keep our political prejudices to ourselves. Those of us who support the name belong to many different political parties. To single out one group to blame is insulting.

That was indeed a great championship game except for the last three minutes. It just seemed like Miami quit. They were no longer agressive, they just hung back, didn't try to get the puck out of their zone and just looked flat. If they would have just kept pressing BU.... As usual it was great hanging out with college hockey fans. And my Fighting Sioux jersey got lots of compliments. In two different conversations, one with a group of Miami fans and another with one Maine fan, there was disbelief when I said we may lose our name and logo. I've been to DC several times but this was the best time ever!!! All in all a great long week-end.

UND is leaving the WCHA to join the NHL. Grand Forks Central and Red River High School hockey teams will play the Fighting Sioux's 2009/2010 schedule as able. This will depend on their own schedules which will take priority.

Good grief!! It's not like the player is getting the money! It's a fund raiser for the program. Oh, well, it's the NCAA and that says it all.

Thanks! I'll pass it on to him. He and his GF will likely come north and stay at my house but he's concerned that he's just moving from one flooded home to another. He's one of the lucky ones that has another home to go to. I'm worried about all those students and residents that don't have the same option.

Phats just called, he lives in N. Fargo. The city is asking for voluntary evacuation of North Fargo residents.
