  1. The regular announcer has replaced TH for the radio broadcast due to a death in his family.
  2. Hard to believe it took him this long to get his first of the season. I hope that opens the floodgates for him, the rest of this season.
  3. Sweeney displays his mastery of the French language with his pronunciation of a UNH player's name. "Charleyboy"
  4. UNH will miss VanR as he is by far the best player on the ice for team USA today. Score now 3-1 USA over the Swiss nearly half way through the third.
  5. Given how tight the WCHA is this season the out of conference games are just too important, especially against a ranked opponent. JPL plays both.
  6. I believe it is the performance incentives. I believe that Toews base salary is around $850,000, while the numbers presented are what the players could earn and I think it is fairly safe to assume that both Toews and Kane will likely cash in. Skille on the other hand is only earning minor league pay.
  7. In todays Spengler Cup game on Sportsnet you have Murphy with Canada playing against Naumenko for the Swiss team. Score is 4-2 Canada early in the third. Update: Murphy blasts a 70 footer for a goal (reviewing for a possible tip) to make it 6-2 Canada
  8. Turris was the feature player for this mornings TSN pregame and most of his college footage was taken from the weekend series against the Sioux. Of course they didn't mention that he had a quiet weekend but still nice to see them feature so much of the Kelly Green.
  9. For those of you who get Sportsnet you can watch Curtis Murphy playing for Canada in the Spengler Cup. They are up on the Czechs 3-2 after two periods. Update Canada won 4-3
  10. The Vancouver fans may have been jerks for booing a couple of years back, but I think the players would take booing over having coke bottles and key chains tossed at them. What classy people the Czechs are.
  11. He's been with you for the past several seasons.
  12. I guess three out of 50 players can't be wrong.
  13. I think we are in agreement. Your stats likely prove my point that they are merely trying to make their product more marketable vice posturing for a move to the NCAA. The point of concern I was trying to make is that they are dramatically increasing their scholarships which could take away Canadian talent that is currently coming to the NCAA. The other schools in Canada will have to follow suit if they want to remain competitive and soon the level of play in the CIAU will start escalating to a level where it is also a bona fide feeder for the NHL as well. The added bonus for the players is that a couple of games of pro hockey doesn't end your eligibility to return and play for you school, the real threat to DI as I see it.
  14. Just got back from that game and JT didn't disappoint. Amazing to see him wearing the A on his jersey as a rookie in the NHL but he is clearly already one of the leaders.
  15. I don't think so. I think it is more a case of the CIAU schools wanting to have a more profitable product. Attendance and facilities are also starting to improve and I would take CIAU hockey officials over those in the WCHA any day.
  16. Edmonton just signed the University of Alberta's goaltender in mid-season: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=225680&hubname= The big difference is that he will dress as Garon's backup and will be back in school for the start of next semester. This is an issue for the NCAA because Canadian Universities are starting to offer more competitive scholarships. University of Alberta is doing it in hockey and Carelton University is doing it in basketball. Think of how attractive this would make Canadian Universitites to potential DI hockey recruits, if you can jump up and play with the Pro team that owns your rights for a couple of games and return to your school team to continue your education and hockey development. This scenario could even drain some of the talent out of the AHL or ECHL.
  17. I wish I had kept the link handy, David Toews was ranked at #21 in the 18 Dec ISS player rankings for next years draft. As for Hextall, as a player he is exactly the same type of player as his Great Uncle so why wouldn't he also want to come to North Dakota and exterminate a few Gophers.
  18. It pains me to admit it about a Goof player but I thought he was one of the best players on the ice for the recent series, so it will be interesting to hear him explain why he would chose to bail on his team half way through the season. Perhaps he was somewhat skipping out on the academics and realized that the WJHC was only going to cause him to be further behind? I would say that pretty much puts the nail in their coffin for this season. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=225542&hubname=nhl
  19. I liked CE's comparison of this team to the 81/82 team, I hope we are still talking about the similarity come mid-April.
  20. I guess it wouldn't surprise anyone to learn that at least one of them might be a goalie. If this was from Saturday night I do believe that the taller recruit is a goaltender from the Selkirk Steelers of the MJHL, Matt Shenher. If it was Friday night it is someone else because he was playing. http://www.selkirksteelers.com/Roster.php
  21. Marto won't get many more starts with plays like that.
  22. Thank goodness Genoway was able to play tonight. Need another for some breathing room
  23. No need for any officials to decide the outcome of this one. In keeping with past history Wooger's goaltender will have a five hole big enough for Dean to shoot a beachball through
  24. Guys, Neoflex always posts negative and I have always suspected they are actually one of the trolls. Check out their post history.
  25. Great start, now go for the kill!
