You are right. A couple of observations. This group, however small, really needs to "win one". I think they see this as winable because there are enough politically correct Admin types, politicians, and campus liberals who will feel more comfortable with their evening bong if they jump on this issue. It is easier than getting to the real problems of poverty, education, violence, unemployment etc. It is near impossible to try to help as an outsider. We often are looked at as the ones who caused the poverty and destruction of culture and Native ways. Maybe you and I didn't but we must understand how many feel. I still think the use of the Fighting Sioux name can be used to help Native Americans. It could be used to bridge cultures. There are many Native Americans who agree and like the idea that the Sioux name is published across the country in a positive manner associated with UND athletics. There are also many narrow minded enough who refuse to see the possibilities because some opposing fan yelled "Sioux suck" or some drunk, rednecked peckerwood showed their ignorance by making racially insensitive remarks. Those people who can't get past their anger seem to be unwilling to have any discussion on how our culture felt this was an honor. They do not see interseted in diversity and I have expressed that point ad nauseum on earlier comments. They have a double standard when it comes to cultures. Ours is not important and they have no respect for what our elders tried to do even though their own elders were wise enough to understand and see the potential for collaboration. There are also many who have enough self confidence and cultural pride to share their culture with us and see how we can work together to make things better for us and Native Americans. UND should continue to work with them and expand what we can do around the state and region to make a positive difference in the lives of the kids on the reservation, so 50 years from now UND would face litigation if we dared drop the name.

I am in. I will buy you beer. Will be at the Crowne Plaza and taking my UND daughter. I told her I expect a sign: UND Tuition and costs $9000. Charter to Columbus $975. Taking my old Dad to watch the Sioux thrash the Gophers on our way to #8. Priceless.

It's what all of us old guys at the nursing home are stuck with. Ourselves. I don't wish to get in trouble with the administrator so enough said. I am bringing my sign to the Frozen 4. Nursing home cost per month. $4250. MediVan trip to Columbus $1250. 2 extra large boxes of depends for the weekend $17.50. Watching the Fighting Sioux bring home #8, Priceless.

Geez buddy hang in there. Don't do that. Pretty soon you wil be doing other things "by yourself" if you know what I mean.

Nice summary and a good example of how the name can benefit Native Americans. I have been wondering what the heck happened to Graham Cracker. I was hoping to get an answer and some dialogue on this issue. Whenever I have seen someone raise what I think are legitimate questions and thoughts, those who oppose the name somehow either disappear or refuse to address the specific issues raised. I believe Native Americans have a choice to accept a gift from another culture and make it work for them. Isn't that part of diversity? There are so many things this could lead to such as outreach for kids on the reservations for math, science, fine arts and athletic camps and clinics. If I were in a leadership position at the tribal council level I would bring these thoughts back to the reservation and consider the opportunites. That is what leadership is all about. Graham are you still at your senate meeting? Some one wake him up or he will miss finals. Help me out here.

The hockey goal and damage to the boards. $750. Forgetting your hockey stick at center ice. $197 A rink side seat to watch the Sioux pound the Gophers. Priceless. If I wanted to be an ass, I would have inserted Psychiatric consultation. $250. (Don't fool yourselves.)

Isn't that an All-star team made up of seniors who have either not commited to a college or signed with a Junior team? Check todays Fargo Forum because I am pretty sure that is correct.

I am one of the ones who thinks we should let Hirsch suffer in peace but I thought this was pretty funny. Good thinking. Not in poor taste.

Of course, why would anyone want to take the high road. If you are smart enough to read a newspaper, you should be smart enough to see the kid has some health problems. The kid I got the info from is not a UND kid and they would have no reason to mislead him. On the other hand, you might have another shot of Captains and Coke or a Killians and keep insulting the poor guy. I hope he plays so they can't use that as an excuse. I wouldn't expect the Gophers to make crude remarks about Robbie Bina. Why would anyone feel better making dumb-ass remarks about this kid. I always thought that was what made UND fans better. Class. Show some. See you in Columbus. Go Sioux.

For what it is worth. According to a kid playing Juniors this year (who was a teamate of some of the Gophers who played with him last year at Lincoln), this is indeed a health issue and it would be inappropriate for the Rodents to comment much more than they have. I think the interviews with his teamates make it clear they want him to get well. I think I would error on the side of compassion for this kid. My source is pretty reliable and he gets his info from Gopher players.

Purpur withdrew his application. Bollinger should be the front runner but the academic types tend to want someone who has been an AD. Bollingers experience is similar. The other five finalists (including Bollinger) had or will have phone interviews.
-
HIPPA also applies to UND medical staff and officials as well as Emergency Medical staff. UND would not be authorized to release information they are privy to without the family's permission.

I believe Purpur is the favorite of Harmeson (thus Kuppy). They seem to want someone who has AD experience. I believe Bollinger is the favorite among many of the former athletes. Bollinger would do a great job. he has been the driving force behind the Fighting Sioux Club which has raised Millions of $$$ for UND Athletics. He is a historian and has done a great job with the Alumni from the pre 70's era. He is very well respected and well liked by those who know him and work with him. He will not be an "admin puke". He is the type of guy that will go sit in the student section to make sure the students are having fun. He will be a coaches and althletes Director. He will encourage Kuppy to figure out that you shouldn't go to Europe etc. when the FB, BB or hockey teams are making National Championship runs. They will encourage Kuppy and Harmeson to get to know the Alumni who are capable of making donations similar to what Ralph has done. He will support the Fighting Sioux name. (he grew up on a reservation). Purpur looks good on paper and may be the best choice, but he would have to be awfully good to be better than Bollinger. Bollinger has the contacts and Purpur doesn't. Purpur will need to start fresh. Ozzie (Dave Ozborn) hasn't been around Sioux sports much lately but was a heck of an athlete for UND and the Mn. Vikings. He is a successful businessman in the citites and out of respect for tradition should at least be granted an interview.

He could also play football and might get an extra year.

You are right. There are always those who don't understand and maybe can't remember being a student. Sucks maybe isn't the classiest cheer, but I would say it's OK. With a bit of thought and creativity our students have and can do better. I don't like the "Who's he? He sucks s&!t" cheer but that's maybe just me. If the students are not a big part of our cheering section, the games are not as much fun. I once had the chief of campus security sit next to me an entire regional basketball tourney. We had a pretty good time because he had a sense of humor. We hadn't used anything very profane and certainly not vulgar or racist. We just drove some fat bald coach from UNO ( We either called him snackbar or bread truck) nuts and he requested that we be better chaparoned. They also roped off the student section behind the visitors bench and soon after the the NCC prohibited us from sitting behind the opposition. Now, I need to work on my pass to get me out of the nursing home and up to the Sioux game. I will watch for you signs and have fun. Go Sioux and remember the Bison still suck where ever they are hiding.

Thanks to Diggler for correcting my Duke Maryland mistake. You gotta understand that here at the nursing home they put salt peter in the mashed potatoes and we get confused easily. (They started doing that after 4 of us got excited and tipped the trays off of our laps watching reruns of Golden Girls. That Bea Arthur is hot!). I have secured a pass for tonight and Nurse Ratchet and I will attend the game and watch for your sign. I got a chuckle out of it. Jack, these are not kids. Saying someone sucks is OK. Screaming F--- You at the opposition is ignorant and shows no class. Our fans are smart enough to come up with more clever taunts that that . The Sioux fans have been great over the years and the students have been fun to listen to. If I sat next to someone who made a sexual remark about an opponents 12 year old sister I would wrap my walker around their neck.

I hate to disagree, but that type of fan support only shows ignorance. The Duke fans were great in the past but that crosses the line. Especially about the guy's sister. The real Duke fans should have tossed the guy out on his butt. I would hope Sioux fans are smart enough to be more creative than to simply yell "F-you JJ or JJ" or (whomever) at either a team or a player. You don't need to be crude and rude you can be insulting and creative. Part of the atmosphere at college athletic events should be the fans. The signs in the past (by the penalty box) were creative and funny. Where have they been this year? I didn't see any that crossed the proverbial line of decency. Did Kuppy outlaw them or didn't those guys get their seats back? Don't tell me some of you guys are graduating in less than 6 years these days. A lot of us were able to cram our 4 years into at least 7. Sorry I have to cut this short but they feed us at 6 here at the Nursing home.
