  1. The plot thickens...

St. Cloud State University officials reassigned football coach Randy Hedberg and named defensive coordinator Scott Underwood as acting football coach, though Hedberg filed a grievance protesting the change.

"It was a recommendation by the athletic director that I reviewed in detail and that I support," university President Earl H. Potter said. "A review process will take place, and until that review process is complete, the decision is not final."

Professor John Palmer, head of the faculty's grievance committee, said Friday that Hedberg filed a grievance and will seek to retain his job as head coach.

"Randy Hedberg should be doing the work he was hired for and has done successfully for nine years," Palmer said.

  2. UND committee makes change

Not having three years of athletic administrative experience won't automatically disqualify somebody from being a candidate for the job of UND athletic director, a search committee decided Thursday.

At a meeting on the UND campus, the athletic director search committee decided to take athletic administrative experience and move it from a required to a preferred qualification.

Committee chair Greg Weisenstein decided to revisit the college athletic administrative experience qualification after receiving several “e-mails and calls.” After discussion Thursday, a straw vote ended up 6-6, so Weisenstein broke the tie and moved it to the preferred category.

And, instead of a minimum of three years of experience, the qualification states that applicants with “significant” successful college athletic administrative experience will be preferred.

Looks like there is a/some candidate(s) in mind that didn't meet the original criteria.

  3. From the Fighting Sioux website....

Tickets can be purchased at the UND ticket office or by calling (701) 777-4689 or via e-mail at tickets@theralph.com.

Fighting Sioux fans are also invited to attend a pre-game party prior to the game against Bemidji State at Champs Sports Bar on 6th Street in Minneapolis, directly across the street from the Target Center. The pre-game party is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 and includes a full food and beverage menu.

  4. Sioux leaders have said in the past that negotiating with a university or other lower-level state entity is beneath their station as a sovereign nation.
One of the complaints over the years from the name change crowd, is UND was using the name without consent of the tribes and that UND should be talking to the tribes to get their consent. Now we read that those type conversations are beneath the Sioux leaders.

    Amazing.

  5. Looks like UND is looking for a new soccer coach....

University of North Dakota co-acting athletic director Betty Ralston announced today that Brock Thompson has resigned as UND’s head women’s soccer coach.

Thompson, who posted a 27-25-6 record in three seasons as UND’s head coach, will serve as the interim compliance director for UND athletics during the spring semester, Ralston said, while a national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.

  6. Okay, so I missed this in today's Herald. :glare:

UND won't have a home-court advantage, but the chance to play a nonconference game in the Target Center was an opportunity too good to pass up.

The Sioux men's basketball team will play Bemidji State on Dec. 29 in the Target Center. The game had been a possibility since the summer but plans for the game in downtown Minneapolis weren't finalized until recently.

  7. It looks as though it is true, but I find it odd that this isn't being announced and marketed a little better. Men's basketball team to face BSU at Target Center on Dec. 29

The University of North Dakota men’s basketball program has announced an additional game to the 2007-08 schedule. The Fighting Sioux will face Bemidji State on December 29 in Minneapolis at the Target Center, home of the National Basketball Association’s Minnesota Timberwolves. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
  8. This is the article of which I was thinking...

The committee talked about required and preferred qualifications during the meeting. The two hot topics involved whether the new athletic director should have Division I experience and whether the person should have athletic administrative experience at any level.

After discussion, the committee decided Division I experience will be preferred and three years of athletic administrative experience will be required.

  9. Let the people speak..

One common theme of the interviews was that the enrolled members of the reservation, not the tribal council, should decide the nickname's fate.

Some people advocated a reservation-wide referendum, following debates in every district between nickname supporters and opponents. Others thought it would be sufficient to take a popular vote at meetings of the governing councils of the reservation's eight districts and to take those results to the tribal council.

  10. Can you think of a better job for a 23-year old? ;)

Kayla Johnson jumped straight from college into brewer's boots.

The 23-year old native of Devils Lake, N.D., has worked since June at Anheuser-Busch Cos.' Research Pilot Brewery, a small testing, product-development and training facility tucked into the company's giant complex in south St. Louis.

Her training as a group manager is an early step toward launching a brewing career at one of Anheuser-Busch's 12 U.S. breweries.
