  1. From everything I've read on the web, that game will be at Southeastern Louisiana. Note the color bars on that site. There are no confirmed dates or locations, just the games themselves.

True, but they don't list that game as "at", but South Dakota is listed as "at SLU. I hope you are right, though. I already have eight people lined up to go to the game, if it is in Hammond.

  2. New AD at UND will face a tough assignment

What one person has described as the worst job in America just got a whole lot tougher.

The decision of football coach Dale Lennon to leave UND to become coach at Southern Illinois begs this question - who wants to be the next athletic director at UND and why?

In a conversation with a current athletic director recently, he told me he couldn't think of a tougher job in the country than being the next athletic director at UND.

I think Virg should become a motivational speaker. :D
  3. SIU is use to being a "stepping stone". :glare:

Five years ago, Bruce Weber went to Illinois. The next year, Matt Painter went to his alma mater at Purdue. Two weeks ago, Jerry Kill went to Northern Illinois. He doubled his salary and with incentives could make half a million dollars next year.

Aren't 95% of all college coaching jobs "stepping stones"? Unless you are a major BCS school (and even then it isn't permanent) you are always looking for the $$$ or larger challenge.

  4. I would say that Mussman is the most logical choice with the need for quick action. I don't think that he would be a bad choice even without the given circumstances.

  5. My first thought when I read it was 'I wonder if Hedberg from SCSU will consider this?' He has done a good job @ SCSU with the limited help he has gotten from the school. I doubt that Pat Berhns would ever come back to UND. I was there when he was the coach and he was not well liked by many. It will be very interesting to see what happens in the next few months with the search for all of the openings at UND. Realestate agents must be getting excited in GF with all of these moves. :glare:

And yet he was brought back as part of the UND Football Executive Committee. He would definitely be a long shot.

  6. Although I was not a big fan of his when he was at UND, Behrns has done quite well at UNO and is the all-times wins leader there. He has proven that he knows how to win in GF against the Sioux. What are your thoughts on the possiblity of Behrns coming back to UND??

  7. From what I've read over on the Saluki board, this has been a done deal for a few days and the delay in announcing it was because Lennon wanted to tie up loose ends at UND. Hopefully, that time was spent by Athletics getting a new coach lined up quickly.

  8. It's Buning's fault!

And why didn't the insiders tell us Buning was screwing this up before it happened?

    (Sorry, I just felt obliged.)

PS - Sac State. Montana State. Now Southern Illinois. Third time (that we know of) is the charm.

    :glare:

  9. Who is the main person handling the recruiting? I'm just wondering how heavily that will be impacted. UND will need to act quickly in naming a new coach or risk losing out on some recruits.

Is anyone else going with Dale?

  10. I join those in astonishment. I thought this was just a wild message board rumor and didn't really give it much credence. Well, I hope someone in the Athletic Department was working on this.

    Good Luck at SIU, Dale.

  11. Read all about it.

Dale Lennon, who led UND to its only national football championship, will be named the head coach at Southern Illinois on Friday.

Sources confirmed Thursday afternoon that Lennon has accepted the job at Southern Illinois.

Southern Illinois is a Division I Football Championship Subdivision program. The Salukis are members of the Gateway Football Conference.

  12. I will not throw Rich under the bus, because he was a friend and I feel a Great Coach with Integerity and Morals.....His teams may not have been as sucessfull as any of us would have liked, and he did indeed miss Greg Mac, but you have to admit it was enjoyable watching the likes of Kyle Behrens, Tom Jacobson, Hunter Reinke, Jerome Beasley and the most exciting couple of games against the storied University of Kansas even tho we lost by 30 were fun, enjoyable, and exciting to watch, all of which happened in his last 5 years at UND....

Everyone that is disapointed in UND basketball, under Rich, Should compare stats with the years under Dave Gunther.....Their careers are almost indentical in wins, losses, playoff apperances, and championships......However Dave is considered a "Legend"

I liked Glas as well, but the real story wasn't in his overall win/loss record. The real difference between Gunter and Glas was conference wins. Glas won 56% of his conference games, while Gunther won 65% of his. Gunther won conference championships, Glas did not. I liked Rich, but the program wasn't growing with him. Attendance was dropping. It was time for a change.

I'm hopeful that Jones' new system (Princeton) will be successful. Honestly, I'd rather watch that than a bunch of big guys banging around. I like old time basketball where skill, hustle and brains were more important than muscle and bulk.

  13. How many buildings have you built in Grand Forks?

I am a Florida contractor who has worked in both locations. I recently provided a proposal in another part of Florida for a GF contractor and was in-line with my ND counterpart price-wise. C.O.L. is not that different, either. ND labor is better educated is the biggest difference that I've seen.

  14. The link is to a *.pdf file and I don't think you can link the pictures individually in their current form.

The *.pdf shows the retractable stadium (field orientated north and south) sitting adjacent to or even connected to the indoor practice facility on the east side (also orientated north and south).

    It is a beauty.

Thanks for the description. I guess Ill have to wait till tomorrow to see it.

  15. I don't know if anyone has seen these or if they were in the print edition of the Herald. But there are pictures online showing what the proposed retractable roof stadim would look like and also a few renderings of the indoor practice facility.

    link

Can someone post some of the images? I'm on vacation and my blackberry seems to have a problem pulling up the posted link. Thanks.
