Asked Mike McMahon if the extension was caused by a Big 10 team probing around but he hasn't heard anything regarding that. I'm cool with Penn State sticking with Gadowsky by all means hahah. Don't see them as a dangerous title contender until he's not behind their0 bench. That style of play he insists on coaching lead to them beating pretty much 0 high end teams this year if you go through their schedule.

The more it's a normal path the better it is for UND as those top prospects are likely only going to UND or Denver. The rich get richer.

The Ivey tidbit definitely was interesting. Fortunately, feel like that doesn't really compete with UNDs player type that they recruit, just not really paid internship personalities hahah. They'd rather work in the hockey world or maybe construction, real estate, etc something along those lines once they hang up the skates.

I despise the sit back neutral zone trap they often went to last night. Don’t find their brand of hockey that enjoyable when they are doing that. Now is it probably a smart system? Definitely, but not what I’d choose to watch night in and night out

I’m 50/50 on this. Definitely an obvious financial gain but now more and more people have mentioned they don’t really play a disciplined / structured game at all to get you ready for the pros. Even have been some talks that he could in theory go back to college but since he’s at Penn State there’s no point. He’s not learning many good habits so get him to the NHL is the thought process. Players / advisors are more wary of going there for their development than they were 1 year ago I’d bet.

Think some people were overthinking that game. Told my buddy in AZ to hammer the Wisconsin puckline. Wisconsin had some down games this year but I think some people forgot they also beat Michigan and Michigan state pretty handily in games this year.

On a similar note to this Princeton seemed to be holding their own against Dartmouth. Cool story for Dartmouth this year but really think they are a team that could get exposed. Princeton had a 5-3 powerplay that was tough to watch, not sure if they got more than 1 very lousy shot off. They're not playing any team in the NCAAs that's gona make it that easy on them. Wisconsin has some pretty nice odds to win outright in that game if you're in a state where you can bet.

I think Steiner was definitely committed to us silently. The UND account didn’t “accidentally” begin following him like they do all their committed recruits. But obviously that changed once he got a contract in the Swiss league offered to him. Don’t blame him, that option likely wasn’t there when he committed to UND. Hard to pass up a pro contract in your home country. Think Chyz and staff had plenty of good backup plans in mind thankfully. Who knows, they might already have a silent commitment lined up to replace him.

Definitely makes it harder on all fans from a budget / PTO perspective. Doubt the coaches change it back though. So to tweak it, would be more ideal if they did the games Friday - Monday. Would at least be a little better than the current system for fans plus better for viewing on TV as you really will only miss 1 game if you’re trapped at work Friday. (Monday would be a doubleheader of regional finals at night which would be fun)

Yes definitely agreed there's room for improvement for both players. (should have mentioned that part in my original response). But on the positive side Zellers seems to have shown flashes + decent effort level, it's just understanding the positioning part, having better anticipation, etc. If Simpson has a freshman year similar to Zellers on the defensive end I can live with it, will give both of them the benefit of growing and improving in their SO and JR seasons.

I’ll take the effort Will shows at least compared to the example of McKenna. My god he could care less to contribute on that end of the ice. Obviously he provides offense but it still doesn’t make it much less maddening to watch

Plenty of players tear it up D-1 year then fall off the map their draft year. Hopefully he's the opposite where he builds and builds during his draft year.

Selfishly, happy to not really see his name out there but Smaby definitely could be an option for Minny. Not very likely but still maybe something to monitor. (the hope is he stays here and takes the reins from Jax down the line. If the Gopher job gets filled by others I think there are pretty few other opens that would entice him enough to leave UND. All of the blue blood coaching spots will be filled for the foreseeable future.)
