Get this. My friend and I were told to sit down IN BETWEEN PERIODS last night by some bitty sitting behind us. I guess she needed to watch the commercials!

A guy takes over a horrible program after it's head coach is fired. He is potentially in line to be hired as the head coach. You're next series is a series that you have a legitimate shot at winning and getting your first conference wins. Should his priorities be 1) talking with the small town fish wrapper or 2) working on plays, line combinations, studying game film, trying to find a replacement goalie, etc. I say give the guy a couple of weeks to try and get this ship turned around. He didn't exactly come into this position on the best of terms, and then looses his goalie to top it off. They got their interview. What more do they want?

I have always heard how great the atmosphere is for basketball games at this arena or even this arena. As long as a facility is designed as a dual facility from the get-go, they can be set up to be great arenas. I have said before, I don't know why you would spend all of that money on an arena and not make it as multi-functional as possible. UW and OSU don't seem to have problems having both basketball and hockey games on the same day in the same arena. I wish that the Ralph had been set up this way. I have a feeling that BSU has been on the phone with NDSU alot in the last year or 2. BSU has to accomplish 1 of 2 things. 1) Stabilize the CHA for the long term as there aren't many options other than it. or 2) Find a way to convince the WCHA to let them in. Could having an attractive, near-by 12th team to join at the same time help? I doubt it could hurt. And one has to wonder how serious the Syracuse AD is about adding hockey. I am sure that Niagara University and Robert Morris would love to have another close conference game.

I completely agree that NDSU hockey will not happen anytime in the near future. I meant more along the lines of if anyone else heard the whole discussion. What they were talking about. Were they discussing possible CHA expansion and if so, were other schools named? Or were they talking about BSU trying to get into the WCHA? They are supposedly making a propossal to the WCHA at the NCAA convention. If someone told me that NDSU has been talking with the CHA, I'd have to go change my shorts.

Anyone else catch any of this? Have any insight?

The playoff implications that this could have had on UND and USD in the major sports are pretty well documented. However, I am disappointed that the 4 Dakota schools didn't continue to play in some of the sports such as baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball etc.

The GWFC commissioner has said that an announcement about conference expansion could come as soon as this January. Most people believe that the University of San Diego, who is currently DI FCS non-scholarship, will move to the GWFC and begin adding scholarships. Some also believe that Sacramento State (CSU-Sacramento) will try to get into the Big West conference, an all California school bus conference that includes UC-Davis and Cal-Poly, and move it's FB to the GWFC. However, this is alot less likely. There is also a very slim chance that this could just be an announcement that UND and USD will be joining the conference in '08 or more likely '09. Hopefully the announcement will come out soon. I think that the GWFC will try to make any expansion announcements before the Gateway meetings to try and give the 'SUs a little bit more reason to stay.

I didn't see a thread that this would fit into and am sure that over the next 2 years we will discuss this more and more. During the broadcast of the basketball games tonight, head baseball coach Kelvin Ziegler talked about the DI scheduling that he has already been doing. '09 baseball scheduled games: Kansas Kansas State Northern Iowa Minnesota Creighton Pepperdine Home and aways NDSU SDSU He said that so far the contract with Minnesota is still in place. I would assume that the UofM will honor contracts already in place.
