I just wish Trent wasn't so limited offensively! He is a true PG and I think can control the pace of play/get the team into what they need depending on the situation. It's just that he is so limited offensively it's hard to have him out there for big minutes. -

I must have missed something, what happened to DU? -
Exactly! Us season ticket holders that are at every game, watch every single road game online, travel to road games at times. We have no opinion in this public forum unless we pay $50k out of our own pockets to buy out the current coach. It makes a lot of sense! Just shows you what type of people the minions truly are! On second thought, I think I'm going to start selling Sather's Minions merch! All proceeds will go to buying out Sather from his current contract. That way I am allowed an opinion in this forum and am allowed to talk. Will that work Minions??
-
Again, it isn't worth the time to even respond to Sather's minions. They will never see things from a different perspective other than that Sather is the greatest coach ever! They never have stats, numbers, or any valid reasons for any of their claims. But if we provide a stat, like him winning less than 25% of his games against other D1 teams, they will say we are wrong because they think he is a good coach. It really makes for some great conversations in this forum!! (sarcasm) Had to add that incase the minions didn't catch that it was sarcasm.
-
No. We need a coach that is with the times and doesn't try play 1960's style basketball. We need a coach that can recruit D1 level talent. That would help.
-
Do they ask, no. But do they find out? Yes. Anyone being recruited by UND would know that Sather is on the hot seat judging by the records the last 2 years and his time at UND. They absolutely question if he will be the coach again next year.
-
1. You can't have a coach with only 1 year left on their contract that is in the hottest hot seat you can possibly be in. No recruit wants to commit to the school knowing that most likely that coach will be fired before they get there. 2. He has had his time to recruit his guys. And his guys have done nothing but put us consistently into being a bottom 10 team in all of D1 basketball! He has also shown that he cannot keep his guys at his school. Maybe people should be concerned that no players want to play for him after being in his program for a year???

Here I will list it out for you and please inform me where I am wrong. Jalun Trent - Junior, Treysen Eaglestaff - Freshman, Brady Danielson - Senior, BJ Omot - Freshman, TT - Junior, Matt Norman - Junior 4 of those 6 guys are upperclassman! The excuse of us being a 'young' team is just not true. Plus, these freshman aren't just your ordinary run of the mill freshman. Mr. Basketball in ND and Mr. Basketball finalist in MN. They have been on campus since probably late July to early August. 22 games into the season. BJ has started every single game. You can't seriously blame us losing on those two being "inexperienced" and "learning on the fly". That is just 100% false and a copout. But don't worry, there will always be an excuse and never just that the coach needs to look himself in the mirror and realize that he can't coach at the D1 level. Maybe we'll have better luck when we play only seniors and we are an "old" team. Give me a break!
-
When did anyone say that this is going to decide what will actually happen??? This was a poll to see how some of the programs biggest fans actually feel. You know... the point of a public forum....
-
This narrative that we are an insanely young team is beyond over played and has very little truth. We have 2 freshman that play minutes..... the other 4 players that play significant minutes are 3 juniors and a senior....... Four of our six guys that consistently get significant minutes are UPPERCLASSMAN!!! I just don't understand how people still try use the excuse that we are a young team and that is why we are losing games. We are 22 games into the season. These "young freshman" have had plenty of time that they are no longer adjusting. They have been on campus since the summer practicing and playing at the D1 level. They aren't "learning on the fly" anymore at this point.
-
Wow I'm an IDIOT! Scrolled right by that! Thank you for catching that @SWSiouxMN

I was thinking today that it sure has felt like a long time since we have won 2 conference games in a row. And sure enough I just looked it up and it has been 710 DAYS since we last won two conference games in a row. All the way back to February 13th & 14th 2021 when we beat USD back to back at home is the last time. Pretty crazy!!

Getting a legit practice facility is what needs to happen as soon as possible. That is a huge thing when it comes to recruiting. Players want a place to go workout that is for basketball players only at all times of the day/night. NDSU has a nice practice facility that opened back in 2015. 8 years later and UND still can't get a practice facility for men's and women's basketball???
-
Misread his comment the first time. Sorry mistakes happen. It will never happen again!
-
Not a good look for our program!
-
People were there to watch two of their players. ZERO of ours lol
-
There is no hypocrisy there. I can handle the Minions comments in this public forum. I have just chosen to stop interacting with a few of them because they do nothing but twist words and never have any reasoning to back up their claims.
-
I have never once said everybody should be negative. I think that coaches should be held accountable. When you aren't doing your job you need to be let go. Hence him doing his job incorrectly more than 70% of the time over 3.5 years means that he needs to be held accountable and let go. I'm not sure how that is negative. It's being real and living in the real world
-
Oh wow another minion. I am going to have to update my shirt!
-
It's not even worth it to respond to jdub anymore. All he does is twist peoples words or take them out of context. Then he provides statements with no reasoning or backup to those statements, all to defend the very sub-par UND athletic programs. And then say that it is us fans job to decide what to do with the current coach, who should be the next coach, and that we should all pay to get rid of them. Acting as if that is our jobs to do and not the AD/schools.

To provide some data to this, when he guards these play types this is his rank in D1 in terms of PPP: P&R Ball Handler - 28% - Below Average (Gives up 0.84 points per possession) Handoffs - 9% - Poor (Gives up 1.3 points per possession) Isolation - 12% - Poor (Gives up 1.1 points per possession) Post Up - 98% - Excellent (Gives up 0.33 points per possession) To go off what GoodGood and other said above, he is a good help side defender that plays hard, will take charges, and will get tough rebounds but he is not a good primary defender or a lockdown defender like some people push. -
My only thing with that is, it is another guy that doesn't really have any other D1 interest/offers at the moment. We have enough of those guys right now. He is getting a ton of JUCO interest and offers right now. Let him go develop at a JUCO for a year or two and then if he does well try to get him from there. Just my thoughts though. We need guys that are 100% D1 level talent and size. No questions asked.
-
Which is fair. Sather also had a decent record his first year here with Jones’s guys. Take that year out and below 30% win rate. It just goes to show that he hasn’t been a good recruiter on top of him not being a good basketball coach.
