2024-25 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
hockeytherapy13 replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
This has nothing to do with the team’s product on the ice. But I’ve gotta say that our team has some real duds when it comes to being interviewed by the media (they are hockey players and not news anchors, so they are forgiven). But Monty was great at the media day interviews today. He can deliver his message, is comfortable at the podium, has a sense of humor, doesn’t stumble constantly or say the same thing over and over, and is honest. I think Jammer is a good interviewee as well but Monty getting more games in might mean better interview options for the media team -

I really thought Kunz stood out, too…. -

I’ll disagree with you here because Jammer is truly the heart and soul of this team. He’s the captain and is owning that role by going all in every night. He willed his way to that 2nd goal in a way no other skater on our team could have tonight. -

That win against providence is keeping us in a decent spot as we are the only team that’s beaten them thus far -

It was brutal to watch but this team will be top 8 the entire season -

Honestly I’m scared of bemidji right now. I’m not sure we can sweep them which will hurt the pairwise. I actually think we can handle Bob Morris but I’ve been wrong before -

If anyone says we deserved a better fate, they only watched 15 mins of the 2nd period. The defensive breakdowns tonight have been atrocious. Kunz shouldn’t be playing the rest of the game -

Kunz is the worst player on our team tonight. Give me Andrew over him the rest of the night. He’s been a liability -

Not sure what we were challenging but unfortunately we lost our timeout -

Ok I was wondering if I was seeing that too or if it was in my head -

we looked decent on the power play there. But 5x5 now means we will get 3 SOG the rest of the period -

Did they actually have to burn their timeout? I wouldn’t be surprised if the refs took a look after a little complaining from the bench. -
Try something like this Omac Wilkie Strinden James Boisvert Perron Kunz Jammer Swanson Andrew Schmaltz Littler or Omac-Wilkie-Swanson James-Boisvert-Perron Kunz-Jammer-Strinden Andrew-Schmaltz-Littler Guessing James, jammer, and Strinden would do a lot of double shifting on the 4th line to take shifts from Andrew
-
That first line badly needs to change tonight. That line should have been changed 5 mins into the second period when we went 15 mins without a SOG last night (around 7 mins left in first period to 8 mins into the second). Most of the lines need a blender and Swanson really needs to be with a finisher. I agree that you keep the 2nd line intact but blow up the other ones. Obviously Littler and Andrew will stay on the 4th line since Littler showed he’s not ready for D1 speed yet. Double shift Jammer and Schmaltz if needing to rotate onto 4th line if we need to keep Andrew’s shifts limited. Id like to see Swanson with Jammer tonight because Jammer has more offensive creativity than most guys right now.

This game has been over for a while, unfortunately

We are not losing because of reffing, it really hasnt been too bad. We are getting beaten by a superior team.
-
Hobie the only bright spot in this game so far.
-
Went 15 mins between our SOG

Looks good other than one thing that sticks out to me. I’d like to see Swanson on a line with scorers. He has elite passing skills so why not put it to use in a series where goals will be very hard to come by? Someone talk some sense into me please if I’m missing something (which is very likely).
-
Yeah with Cornell being the heaviest team in the country, I'm hoping we can come away without any injuries since we are already banged up enough as it is.
-
My point exactly. He's never been here to be a high-minute player. He's a role guy and he owns that role as someone who has never been to jump into the portal or try his hand elsewhere. He's here to help fill gaps when needed or help out when we are injured. One of the series in Duluth when we had multiple injuries he came in and even scored a goal so he's had a random chip-in a couple times during his 4 years. In this day and age with the portal, it's a gem to find a guy willing to stick around for sake of the team when you hardly get any reps. Which is why I say it's good to find a teammate like him who is going to be slotted in wherever and whenever as needed.
-
He's a senior this year so hopefully we end up grabbing a guy who can be as versatile as he can be. Hasn't gotten many reps in during his time here but that's his role and he's played it well.

What do you think they do with forward lines when you’re missing your top center? They could keep last week’s lineup mostly intact by moving Jammer up to top line center and have Littler (a big, heavy body to help combat the giants of Cornell) slide into the 4th line with Croal and Schmaltz. Or maybe they throw Wilkie up on the top line and shuffle the deck below. Either way, Perron needs to be with someone who can make plays with him or be a finisher because he was buzzing strong on Saturday and just didn’t get on the scoresheet the way he deserved. I like the idea of 7-9-18 together. They don’t have much size but they would certainly be a scoring threat when out there

This is a great question that I've seen answered quite a bit by Adam Wodon (CHN) and Jim Connelly (USCHO) who give the same answers every time. Bad losses hurt more than good wins help.
