Cannot let Russia hang around.....absolutely cannot. Sweden learned this earlier in the week. Had chances to go up three or four goals, but didn't bury chances and low and behold Russia was a tremendous deflection away from sending that one to OT where anything could have happened. Finish every check and get the puck deep and work on their soft defensemen. Have to make life miserable for Russia's goalie, or he'll get another player of the game award.

Olympics (Parise,Oshie,Toews, LamTwins) - Sochi, Russia
Wilbur replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Congrats to all former UND guys who made the squad. The only time I ever cheer against Toews. When he puts on the Maple Leaf...... Love the Oshie pick. Before its all said and done he'll have made a difference for team USA. -
I'd personally like to see UND play a team from the CHL. Like maybe play Windsor or the Wheat Kings. It would be a pretty competitive hockey game, and gritty as all heck. Heck, hold a little showcase at the Joe in Detroit. Windsor is right there, London near by.... I'm sure you could throw a Michigan school in there and have two days and four games between two NCAA schools and two CHL teams.

Maybe Princeton could just fly to Grand Forks and the two teams play a pair at the Ralph.

My dad's parents are both born and bred Canadians. I've got a ton of Canadian blood in me but absolutely cannot stand Canadian hockey fans. You win a game you're supposed too and instead of respecting an opponent you pull that crap. Brutal road to the gold medal game for the United States, and I mean brutal. Russia, then likely Sweden, then a probably rematch with Canada as they should glide into the final. Have to beat a pesky pesky Russian squad with a great goaltender. They leave him hanging out to dry a lot, but he kept them in the game against Sweden when it could have been 5 or 6 to 2.

Clearly Lucia's fault they lost this. Clearly...... Canada deserved to win the game. They got rolling and once that happened the U.S. made up for it by taking some bad penalties. You'd like to see Gilles make one of those saves from in close, but you could tell what team wanted to win this game more than the other one. USA will play? Anybody have a run down for me?
-
3-2 now. Some possible life for the U.S.
-
2-1 Canada and a powerplay for Canada. 3-1 Now Canada. Aggressiveness of USA's penalty kill really hurt there. Can't leave your feet and give them a 2-1 down low.
-
And its 1-1 after two periods. Canada picked it up there a bit in the second. Lets see which team has fuel in the tank for the third period. Do you think if its tied at the end Canada pulls their goalie? With every team having to play a quarterfinal my guess is no.
-
Amazing what a goal does. All Canada the last five shifts and a powerplay coming to Canada.
-
1-1. Bad turnover by the USA.
-
I was joking.....I'm not that funny....
-
Riley Barber, and its 1-0 good guys.
-
Lot of fancy passing fellas, put the puck on net. And I think Gilles got a penalty.....yup.
-
No....a Mass. kid goes to BU or BC...... Has UND ever had a player from Massachusetts?
-
I was wondering where Jack Eichel was committed too, but then I looked at where he's from and I can about bet where he's going. 0-0 after the first. Good period of hockey. Good goaltending, some chances both ways, and the officials are letting them play.

After a whistle filled first three minutes this game has been a lot of fun to watch. Up and down the ice a bit and puck possession so key. Any time the puck is turned over both teams send numbers the other way.
-
Might want to check nhl.com. They have done every USA game to this point.
-
The Russian goalie made thus far the save of the tournament. Great lateral movement save to rob a Swede on the back door. 2-1 Sweden after two.
-
I was wondering why TSN was saying Germany had a chance. I had no idea the format changed. Game time is 10:30 officially.
-
Paul LaDue......Because he might be the only guy left that I haven't picked.... I don't care either way about keeping it going or ending it. Maybe when we get down to the goalies....
-
With the way the teams have been playing I'd say advantage USA, but you throw everything out the window when these teams get together. I knew the Slovaks would push Canada, but not to the point where Canada had to come from two down to win it. Should be fun 9:30 AM hockey!

Without a doubt that might have been the most talent the tournament has ever seen. Look at the rosters for all of those teams and then look at current NHL rosters. Here's team Canada: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_World_Junior_Ice_Hockey_Championships_rosters

Lucia has done a fantastic job thus far with the group they have. Attack, attack, attack. Maybe I'm too used to watching UND trying to sit on a lead and chip pucks out and clog up lanes. I like this team's chances. Obviously one more game in the group stage, but I think they'll win the group and play the likes of Russia in the semis.

Its Sutter's first loss EVER as the Canadian World Junior coach and he's the wrong coach for the team. ~McDavid may as well stay in Sweden. ~Both goaltenders are horrible. ~Olympic rinks are stupid. ~All the best American players are in Canada playing. Loving the TSN website right now.
