SIOUX vs. GOPHERS - Thursday, F4 Philly style Gameday
Wilbur replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
So far the gophers have been the more physical team. No real physical play out of UND yet. Some checks and such, but we haven't seen anything to write home about. Lots of whistles....this is a good thing. -

To say both teams are sloppy and a bit nervous would be understated. -
Ummm....good series guys....clap.....ummm......ummm....way to pitch start.....no.....hmmmm. Way to hit the ball everyone not named Kubel....... Ummmm.......keep your chins up......its a marathon, not a sprint. The hunt for 100 is officially back on. I'm hoping for a crowd in the 15,000 range this year. Maybe that will evoke some kind of change.

Boy if BC had scored there Union could have had issues with the officials. I don't know who it was, but one of the BC forwards just about tackled the Union defenseman on the blue line which allowed Johnny to get the shot off behind him. Congrats to Union. One of the two evil empires is down.....now for the other.....
-
You just can't turn the puck over going up ice against BC. They utilize their defensemen so well on transition rushes, and no goaltender on earth is going to make a save on a shot like that. Gaudreau's line is just filthy good.....fun line to watch.

2-1 Union....Demko should have let that go high. Union gets one right after BC should of had one. I love hockey.....
-
This is only the third time I've seen Union play and they have yet to disappoint. Just tenacious on the forecheck, and their puck movement and management is what keeps a line like Johnny's away from creating opportunities.
-
Union is a tremendous defensive team, but how in the world does Johnny skate free on a few of these plays? They just about had him all alone on the other end of a 2-1. Crowd looks pretty good to me. Goal Union 1-1. Sounds like a lot of people are not cheering for BC.

Got to be an honor to be the least favorite of a rival's fanbase. I'm trying to think of my all time most hated gophers. Hmm...... ~Ryan Potulny ~Matt DeMarchi ~Seth Helgeson ~Wally Shaver ~Chris Harrington If I was a gopher fan, I would assume the following would be among their least favorite. ~Frattin ~Lamoureax Family ~Prpich ~Radke ~Darcy Zajac

You mean KVLY isn't doing a half an hour pregame show with ex players eating food at a dark restaurant retelling their stories of greatness and setting up the game? Somebody call Brian Schaan or whatever his name is..... -

Since two Sunday's ago I've had a good feeling. The past few frozen fours I've had horrible feelings, absolutely horrible. Least skilled Sioux team to be in a frozen four since I've been watching them. So why the heck not? I'm going to keep my Golden Gopher's national championship pick. I never pick anything right. Adam Wilcox with a huge SHUTOUT tonight for the gophs. -
It used to be the end of the Sioux season transitioned right into Minnesota Twins baseball season......but the Twins are now unwatchable....
-
I want him to just come out and crown em. Stone cold national championship prediction for the Tribe. I want it all on his shoulders again.
-
Hah....take it to the bank pick of the day. Union hasn't lost since January....and its April.....wow. Suffocating defense, with strict play in the neutral zone. Me thinks MafiaMan is correct on this pick. Unless Johnny hockey and crew score five......

I'm thinking Zane gets traded. Too many goaltenders in that stable in Boston. And with continued development I'm thinking Zane could be NHL ready in about 4 years, if he ever gets that far.

My Serge story: My high school team is playing GF Central at the state high school tournament the next day, and we're sitting in the Italian Moon having lunch after our practice at the Old REA (back when teams got to go a day early and have a practice). I'm wearing a Sioux jersey and this old guy walks up to me and says he's cheering for Central the next day (obviously), but wanted to wish me the best of luck in our game the next day. I had heard his name before, but never had met him. Nice guy, great heart. RIP Mr. Gambucci.

They just aren't going to very good for a few years. Maybe he'll let Paul Molitor run things after they fall 20 games back.
-
Wild win again after tying the game late. Officially in the playoffs. They've gotten points in every game that Bryzgalov has started.
-
I just think they are going to want a guy with head coaching experience. But maybe Grant is the perfect guy for the job.
-
I don't know what else there is for Johnny Hockey (just coined that myself!) to do in college hockey. I read an article where he said that his mom wanted him to stay in college and finish out, but he is clearly ready to move up a league or two. Other possibilities: (note, other than Gostisbehere, not really huge flight risks) ~Gostisbehere (Union) ~Ciampini (Union) ~Rau (UM) ~Wilcox (UM) ~Gothberg
-
Can't believe Bryzgalov has been such a key part of the Minnesota Wild's late season run. I was a naysayer who thought it was an awful move when better goalies were out there. 1-0 Wild late in the third period.

I don't see Lucia retiring for some time. I could see him coaching for another 10-15 years if he doesn't get forced out before then. Guentzel has always said he wanted to be a head coach, but then ended up back at Minnesota after they faltered a bit. I'm betting if gopher fans had to pick between Lucia and Mike G a lot of them are picking the assistant over the head guy. If I'm CC, my top candidates are as follows: ~Guentzel ~Eades ~Dane Jackson ~Gwoz
-
I would love to see Guentzel at CC. Another quality coach to the NCHC. Minnesota is a completely different team with him coaching the defensemen. Plus I'm willing to be he would recruit Minnesota extremely well.
-
I'm going to miss Owens. Like CC or hate CC, boy were they fun to watch play when he was the coach. Wide open hockey games, up and down the ice. Some of the best hockey games I've ever seen involved CC and UND. Best of luck. Class act. Never put himself in the spotlight over his team, and his players were always accountable on and off the ice.
